Elon Musk Is Planning a Texas Utopia—His
Own Town

Original Article

AUSTIN, Texas—Elon Musk is planning to build his own town on part of thousands of acres of newly purchased pasture and farmland outside the Texas capital, according to deeds and other land records and people familiar with the project. In meetings with landowners and real-estate agents, Mr. Musk and employees of his companies have described his vision as a sort of Texas utopia along the Colorado River, where his employees could live and work. (Snip) They say Mr. Musk and his top executives want his Austin-area employees, including workers at Boring, electric-car maker Tesla Inc. and SpaceX, to be able to live in new homes with below-market rents.

I wonder if all residents will be required to drive EVs and if all electricity will be green sourced--kinda doubt it. Musk should show the way by constructing a nuclear power plant to provide electricity, he could probably do that with pocket change.

As #4 mentions, nothing new about the concept. In the heydays of the cotton mills, there were mill villages all over the South. The houses were eventually sold to the workers and most are still standing. The mills needed workers and offering reasonably priced housing brought them in close to the mill. My wife grew up in mill village and still talks about what a close and friendly neighborhood she lived in. Musk might be on to something with this idea.

Austin/Travis County is the blueberry on the region's strawberry shortcake. Bastrop County is completely (but not overwhelmingly) red. It'll be a company town for factory workers. The builder is rumored to be Lennar. Middle class. Texas red.

Well #3, it’s the weirdest example of crazy liberalism but it is not just Austin that is a problem. Our biggest urban areas have followed suit as other red states in that they have Democrat mayors, city council majorities, etc. I wish Austin was our only hotbed of lieberalism.

Not a new concept(and I betting Musk didn't refer to it as a "Utopia"), In the Houston area alone you have Nasa, Sharpstown, Bellaire, and my hometown Sugarland. (I actually lived on the edge of Mo.City/Dewalt but no one every heard of it...our highschool was in Sugarland, it's all golfcourse communities and McMansions now, you'd have a hard time finding a dirt road...when I was young it was pavement that was scarce)

There is no way to avoid this moment. The formal letter of apology. From me. To Conservatives and to those who “put America first” everywhere. It’s tempting to sweep this confrontation with my own gullibility under the rug — to “move on” without every acknowledging that I was duped, and that as a result I made mistakes in judgement, and that these mistakes hurt millions of other people like you all, in existential ways. It’s hard not to binge read a Dean Koontz novel. His suspenseful plots hurl readers headlong into raucous adventures in which the stakes for his protagonists are extreme and, for humanity, often dire. His heroes are resilient. His villains ooze wickedness. Walk-on characters are often hilarious. (Snip) If an enjoyable read was all there was to Koontz’s work, it would be enough. But like the best novelists, Koontz also communicates important moral truths. (Snip) Koontz’s various stories also provide a running commentary on the sorry state of contemporary American culture, in particular, the egregious failings of our most important cultural institutions and the irresponsibility of our woke leadership class.

America’s nosedive into social distrust over the past several decades has fueled our loneliness epidemic.

For two years, mRNA Covid vaccine skeptics have raised questions about whether the shots might damage fertility. mRNA jabs alter menstrual cycles in some women. An Israeli study last June showed that sperm production falls after the Pfizer shot. Worse, births are falling fast in many mRNA countries. The trend predates the shots, but in some countries it accelerated nine months after the widespread rollout of the jabs to women of childbearing age. Still, data have not supported the worst fear of mRNA skeptics - a marked rise in late-term deaths or stillborn babies. Until now. (Snip) 73 stillbirths in 2019. 78 in 2020. 78 in 2021. 133 in 2022.

Over the past year, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Denmark have begun or completed public investigations into their countries’ responses to the Covid-19 pandemic. These governments believed it was important to report on successes and failures of pandemic decisions because it was the public that was on the receiving end of policies such as closed schools, vaccine mandates, and shuttered businesses. The United States is notably absent from this list, despite a long history of setting up bipartisan commissions after national crises in order to avoid repeating mistakes. Since 1989, when the current iteration of bipartisan commissions essentially came into being, Congress has funded 170 commissions to

The “great awokening” touches every elite institution in America, mostly radiating out from our compromised system of higher education. One of the most disturbing and illuminating aspects of this cultural revolution is how much it is transforming science and medicine. As many have noted, this “student-led initiative” sounds cult-like. [Inserted tweet] When did medicine start sounding like a cult?
