Will DeSantis Rescue Republicans or Let
Them Down?

Original Article

Unfortunately for Ron DeSantis, expectations of him could not be higher. For a critical mass of Republicans seeking to move past Donald Trump, the Florida governor is already the anointed savior. While Trump still holds the lead in most polling, DeSantis is almost always second choice and is the favorite for many Republicans who want a new standard bearer because they believe Trump can’t win. Though he has not yet launched a campaign, and his allies say he would not until the state legislature completes its session in May, DeSantis definitely wants us all to think he will soon be a presidential candidate.

Mark my words. If the GOPe in any way, shape or form joins with the Stalinist Democrats and tries to take out Trump with yet another manufactured prosecutorial charade and then tries to foist DeSantis (or anyone else on us) the Republican base will be staying home in droves in ‘24. Mark my words.

My biggest problem with DeSantis is his connection to the Bushs. They were traitors to the millions of us who voted for them. DeSantis can be an excellent president - some day. But it's almost too much too soon and I suspect the swamp is behind him in some way.

DeSantis has been an excellent governor and he has become an astute politician. Make no mistake, it was Trump that rescued DeSantis. This idea that vast numbers of Republicans want to move on from President Trump is a media created meme.

I admire Ron DeSantis greatly but I truly believe he should stay in Florida for another term and get that state really, really squared away, then and only then should he enter the Center Ring and start his push for the presidency while giving way to our President Donald J. Trump another chance to finish what he started in 2016

Ron DeSantis is a strong governor of what has become a solidly conservative state the last few years. With a solidly Republican state legislature, he gets pretty much what he wants passed and on his desk. Even the media in his state is mostly supportive of him. He says all the right conservative things, and comes across as a very popular and strong leader. There is so much hope for him being the future of the Republican Party. However, that is the exact description that most people had for George W. Bush not that long ago. But when he was elected president and came across massive opposition from both the Demon-Rats and a lot of Republicans, and faced a hostile national media that pegged him only 1 or 2 notches above Hitler and Stalin, he folded like a wet noodle and spent the rest of his administration "playing nice". Sadly, except for Reagan and Trump, that has traditionally been the "Republican way" of governing since the 1960's. I do believe that DeSantis is a stronger man and conservative than W ever was. But I am far from convinced that he will make a great president at this point. He isn't rich, so he is going to have to sell his soul to some special interests to be able to afford to run. And then he will still probably lose to Trump in the 2024 primaries, which puts that "loser" stamp on his reputation. I do know that Donald Trump has a spine of steel and brass cajones, is rich enough not to be beholden to special interests, and is proven to be up to the fight. So, for now, I truly hope that DeSantis is smart enough to sit out 2024, spend the next 5 years building up his conservative credentials as governor of Florida, and has the support of all Trump voters in 2028!!!

The fabrication that DeSantis is in the Bush camp, is analogous to saying that since Trump was a democrat in 2008, only switching to the GOP after Obama was president in '09, he must have been in the Obama camp. I wouldn't believe that any more than I believe that DeSantis is a Bush camp follower.

I don't see why they think DeSantis can win but not Trump. Assuming we had fair elections, the moment DeSantis officially declares (if he does) he will be lionized by the press. The moment he wins the primaries he will be smeared by the same press as the most horrible human being ever, a man so evil he makes Trump and Adolf H look good by comparison. Happens every time.

I am amused that some LDotters are “discovering” Ron DeSantis. I remember when I first noticed him when he showed up on a House committee and some of a hearing on ? was broadcast. Intelligent, articulate guy. Now he has done some strong things in Florida. He comports himself well. None of this takes a man over the top for president. Needs a few more years, an exercise program and a better barber. He could be good president material. Very, very few are. Needs a few more years.

An old saying, attributed to Henry David Thoreau, maintains that you do not have to find a trout in your glass to know someone is watering down the milk. This week Americans found a veritable school of trout in their milk — an unintentional demonstration by the Biden administration of why such a gathering of fish is often called a “lie.” In the 17th release of the “Twitter Files,” journalist Matt Taibbi disclosed that the U.S. government is funding a group that has supported the censorship of dissenting viewpoints on social media, including those of U.S. citizens.

A campaign to have rural eastern Oregon secede from the blue state and join more conservative Idaho has "virtually no chance" of becoming a reality, according to Idaho's top state Senate Democrat. "I'm very pleased this measure has virtually no chance of advancing into reality," Idaho Senate Minority Leader Melissa Wintrow, D, told Fox News Digital. "It would be bad for all involved and bad for the country, and I am opposed to it at all levels." Wintrow was referring to a resolution making its way through the Idaho Legislature that wouldn't move the Idaho-Oregon border but rather call for formal talks between the states' legislatures about relocating the boundary line.

At a time when Republicans are increasingly asserting themselves in battles over a coterie of acronyms that have captured the commanding heights of American society – ESG, DEI, and CRT – Rep. Jim Banks has emerged as a leader in the GOP-controlled House of the fight against the “wokeism” these theories collectively represent. A fourth-term congressman from Indiana, Banks has earned his anti-woke bona fides by engaging in high-profile clashes with military officials over their embrace of “anti-racist” literature and related initiatives, the Chamber of Commerce over issues ranging from woke capitalism to China, and Twitter over his “misgendering” of Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral Rachel Levine.

The need for America to re-affirm the First Amendment and its principles has once again been underscored by the recent findings coming out about the origins and impact of the coronavirus. The most important problem we have as a society is not misinformation but the suppression of non-conforming opinions that often (but not always) turn out to be true. Americans sense this already. They are concerned about what tech companies have been doing to censor content, with 61% of voters in a recent Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll believing that the government and tech companies worked together to enforce political censorship.

After nearly a year, former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann once again argued on Wednesday that the easiest solution to push back against Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., would be to move Disney World to another state. The tweet came two days after DeSantis signed a bill into law that officially revoked Disney’s previous self-governing power over the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the district where Disney World is located. The bill put the district under the control of a state board of term-limited members recently announced by DeSantis. In response to this move, Olbermann insisted that Disney should fire back by moving its massive park and "burning" the remains.

Just over a year ago, Chancellor Olaf Scholz gave a speech to the German parliament that is likely to define his chancellorship — and he was barely two months into it. The "Zeitenwende" speech (literally "turning of the times"), a response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, was built on the announcement that the German military would receive a special one-off fund of €100 billion to be upgraded. On June 3, the center-right opposition in the Bundestag joined forces with the ruling parties to change the constitution and allow the additional debt — an unprecedented occurrence in the history of the Federal Republic. Joe Biden will almost certainly not attend the coronation of King Charles III. The official reason is that he is making a trip to Ireland that simply can’t be canceled. The media have focused on two reasons he won’t be there: (1) Eisenhower didn’t attend so there’s no tradition for presidents to attend, and (2) Biden hates the British. I think there are two more likely reasons: (1) Charles III’s coronation is an event without cachet, and (2) it’s impossible for Biden to withstand the rigors of the long coronation ceremony and any pre- and post-ceremony events. Indeed, my money is on the last reason being the real reason.
