On the eve of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, China has called for a cease-fire between the two sides and for peace talks to commence as part of a 12-point plan to end the war.
China’s Foreign Ministry revealed the plan on Friday, Beijing time, and also called for the end of Western sanctions on Russia, measures to ensure nuclear facilities, humanitarian corridors for civilians to flee the conflict and a process to ensure the continuation of grain exports.
“All parties should support Russia and Ukraine in working in the same direction and resuming direct dialogue as quickly as possible,”

PORTLAND, Ore. — Winter storms sowed more chaos across the U.S. on Thursday, shutting down much of Portland with almost a foot of snow and paralyzing travel from parts of the Pacific Coast all the way to the northern Plains. The nearly 11 inches that fell in Portland amounted to the second snowiest day in the city's history. It took drivers by surprise, stalling traffic during the Wednesday evening rush hour and trapping motorists on freeways for hours. Some spent the night in their vehicles or abandoned them altogether as crews struggled to clear roads. Other commuters got off spun-out buses

Astronomers have used the James Webb Space Telescope to peer back in time to the early days of the universe — and they spotted something unexpected. The space observatory revealed six massive galaxies that existed between 500 million and 700 million years after the big bang that created the universe. The discovery is completely upending existing theories about the origins of galaxies, according to a new study published Wednesday in the journal Nature.“These objects are way more massive than anyone expected,” said study coauthor Joel Leja, assistant professor of astronomy and astrophysics at Penn State University, in a statement. “We expected only to find tiny, young, baby galaxies

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif), who was kicked off the House Select Committee on Intelligence because of his years-long affair with a Chinese spy, is trying to stay in the headlines by proposing a plan to keep former President Trump out of the Capitol.
The bill, introduced by Rep. Nikema Williams (D-GA), would permanently bar Trump and several top aides from the Capitol because of their attempt to "undermine and overturn the 2020 presidential election."
The proposal asks the House and Senate Sergeant at Arms and the U.S. Capitol Police to take "such actions as may be necessary" to keep Trump from entering the halls of Congress forever.

Pete Buttigieg finally went to East Palestine on Thursday, and as expected, he thoroughly embarrassed himself. While reporters were asking valid questions about the performance of the Biden administration, the failed transportation secretary used them to launch ridiculous partisan attacks on people who haven’t been in power for years.
Here’s one such example, but there have been others over the weeks, with Buttigieg repeatedly citing supposed deregulation as a cause of the devastating derailment. I don’t know about you, but watching this absolute mediocrity of a public official smugly make his way through a press conference, appearing to be holding back laughter at times

Vladimir Putin recently made waves when he withdrew Russia from its last remaining nuclear arms control agreement with the U.S., citing Russia’s determination to stop decadent Western evil as motivation. But the first prominent mention of Russia’s new role as champion for good against Western evil didn’t come from Putin but in a Red Square speech by Ivan Okhlobystin, an actor and defrocked priest dressed as Dr. Strangelove.
Putin’s militant virtue would be foreshadowed there. But even before Okhlobystin, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn pointed out in his 1983 Templeton Prize speech that the war on God had already been started by Karl Marx and the French revolution.

National Public Radio will reduce its workforce by 10%, which means the termination of around 100 people. Positions that are currently vacant will be eliminated. The outlet reported that CEO John Lansing is attributing the move to a lack of advertising dollars, specifically in terms of its podcasts. NPR has an annual budget of $300 million and its revenues could be short $30 million to $32 million.

It would also apply if the patient is no longer with the company. I’m reminded of an old lawyer joke along the same lines:
Question: What do you call a thousand lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?
Answer: A good start.
Twitter has a diversity, equity and inclusion department. Like many companies, Twitter calls it something other than that because that phrase is now a joke. Recall how proud the Left was of “woke” until “woke” became a joke.
Under various names, this DEI crap is everywhere. Any organization of any size – say bigger than about 50 people – now has a DEI person or even a whole DEI department. At Twitter, the department comprised 30 men and women and etc.

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings will meet with community leaders Thursday to address gun violence, including the deadly shootings a day earlier in Pine Hills.
The mayor will meet with members of the African-American Council of Christian Clergy at the Experience Christian Center at 11 a.m.
Orange County Sheriff John Mina said during a news conference that the suspect in the initial shooting, 19-year-old Keith Melvin Moses, returned to the scene of the homicide, where a Spectrum News 13 reporter, later identified as 24-year-old Dylan Lyons, and photographer, Jesse Walden, were covering the story.

Lawyers representing Republican witnesses in the investigation of former President Donald Trump and his colleagues in Fulton County may try to stop possible indictments.
The move would be based on recent public statements by the forewoman of a special purpose grand jury.
District attorney Fani Willis is currently deciding whether to pursue charges and convene a criminal grand jury based on the special grand jury’s findings.
Emily Kohrs, the forewoman of the grand jury investigating former President Donald Trump and his allies in Fulton County, Georgia, was seen laughing during media appearances. Critics of the grand jury’s investigation saw Kohrs’ demeanor as evidence of bias against Trump and his allies.

As we have reported all along, on January 6, 2021 the Capitol Hill Police began firing rubber bullets, gas canisters, flash grenades on the Trump supporters gathered around the US Capitol without warning.
In the hundreds of conversations we have had with January 6 attendees, political prisoners, and police abuse victims, they all say the same thing. Innocent people were attacked by police without warning.
This was an attack on the American people.
While FBI-Deep State operatives, like Ray Epps, were breaking through barriers and leading Trump supporters to the Capitol, police were readying to fire on them indiscriminately without warning.

As murders surge in Guayaquil, the city has moved up dramatically in international rankings of cities with the highest murder rates. In 2022, Guayaquil ranked 24 among what Insight Crime labels the “most murderous” cities. The city entered the list in 2021 at number 50, the first time an Ecuadorian city has ranked in the top 50 National Police reported 1,537 murders in Guayaquil in 2022 compared to 992 in 2021. Ecuador’s Interior Ministry blames 75% of the city’s 2022 homicides on criminal gang activity, most of it related to the transport of illegal drugs.CORRECTION*

Joe Biden acquired his job through a legal process. However, he did not earn enough verifiable votes to justify the certifications in six key swing states. This issue is addressed in my new book, but here is some of my reasoning. I have limited myself to one example of unverifiable votes for each of those swing states.
Arizona
At an Arizona Senate Committee hearing on January 24, 2022, we learned that precisely 95 percent of Maricopa County overseas military members (and their families) voted for Joe Biden. That is an amazing (as in phony) percentage, given that the overall county-wide vote was fairly even between Biden and Trump (51 to 49%).

New video shows the terrifying moment an alligator lunged at a woman walking her dog by a lake in her Florida community, dragging her to her death.
The horrifying nightmare captured on video obtained by Inside Edition unfolded in front of a neighbor who frantically called 911 as she tried to help the woman. But it was too late.
Gloria Serge, 85, died after she was mauled to death by the 10-foot gator when she tried to rescue her beloved dog, Trooper, from the reptile's clutches on Monday.
Serge's pup survived the attacked, but the gator was later captured and euthanized.

A group of 16 GOP representatives is on course to derail House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's leverage in negotiations with President Joe Biden and the Democrats over the debt ceiling.
The group of 16, identified by Axios, all have never voted to raise the debt ceiling, including under former President Donald Trump, meaning they are unlikely to break their streak now.
The 16 were identified as Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Tom Emmer (R-MN), Richard Hudson (R-NC), Gary Palmer (R-AL), Jason Smith (R-MO), James Comer (R-KY), Bruce Westerman (R-AR), Ken Buck (R-CO), Warren Davidson (R-OH), Thomas Massie (R-KY), Tom McClintock (R-CA),

The US Secretary of the Navy has raised the alarm that China's naval fleet surpasses America's in number of ships, and is growing faster than the US has current capacity to match.
'It is no secret that the People's Republic of China seeks to upend our dominance on the oceans across the globe,' said Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro in remarks at the National Press Club in Washington DC on Wednesday.
Del Toro said that China's navy has recently added over one hundred combatants to its fleet, calling it 'a naval buildup that is a key component of its increasingly aggressive military posture globally.'

One of the key functions of Congress is to oversee how our government’s many branches do their jobs. It’s a central part of holding those in power accountable. That’s why it’s good news that the new Republican House has decided to investigate the COVID-19 vaccines, which turned out to be deadlier, and far less effective, than promised.
This is not one of the “gotcha” committees, such as the ones run by the Democrats during the last session of Congress that amounted to little more than political sideshows with no real serious intent of reform or improving government.
Instead,

After a nearly eight-month investigation, a Fulton County special grand jury recommended on Tuesday that multiple people be indicted for allegedly interfering with Georgia’s 2020 presidential elections, and the national media had Donald Trump on their collection brain.
The jury forewoman, Emily Kohrs, was a sudden media darling over the possibility of Trump being among those being indicted and she was downright giddy over all the attention she was getting, but her explanation of why she wanted to hear from the former president was enough to give one pause, regardless of their political affiliation.
“I wanted to hear from the former president, but honestly I kinda wanted to subpoena the former president

Who else can do this?
Residents of East Palestine were overjoyed to see President Donald Trump on Wednesday.
Crowds formed early in the day in the rain to see Trump before he flew into Ohio.
The Trump supporters are lining the streets in Ohio.
TRUMP BRINGS HOPE! (Tweet/Video) Trump traveled to East Palestine, Ohio with Donald Trump, Jr. and Senator J.D. Vance. When they arrived the excited crowd was jumping up and down and started chanting “Trump! Trump! Trump!…”
So President Trump stopped what he was doing, paused his conversation and walked over to the screaming crowd and started shaking their hands!
This is why President Trump is the most popular US President of a generation!

East Palestine, Ohio — Former President Donald Trump told residents of East Palestine on Wednesday that “We’re like a third-world nation” with Pete Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary. (Photo) The former president also stated that Buttigieg, who has yet to even step foot in East Palestine, “should have been here a long time ago.”
After being asked to respond to Buttigieg blaming him for the train derailment by falsely claiming a proposed rule on ECP brakes that was withdrawn in 2018 had something to do with the disaster
“We’re like a third-world nation, and this is an example of it, the breakdown. Our whole country is breaking down,” Trump said

I’ve been writing about the panic that we’re seeing from some of the Jan. 6 Committee over the thousands of hours of footage that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy allowed Tucker Carlson and his crew to view. Why would they be so upset about people viewing the footage or knowing more about what went on that day? Isn’t that what they kept saying they wanted? Yet suddenly we’re seeing them melting down and coming up with all kinds of reasons why more light on the subject is such a bad thing.
We saw some of the members of the Committee — Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), former representative Adam Kinzinger, and

Welcome to the latest Hunter Biden reboot. Call it Dark Biden rises.
Hunter has long been a reclamation project for the media and the Biden team. Despite ample evidence that he and his family may have engaged in one of the largest influence-peddling operations in history, the media have struggled to find a redeeming image for someone who’s committed his life to a toxic mix of nepotism, narcissism and narcotics.
First there was “Hunter: the wrongly accused international businessman.” This blanket denial of wrongdoing was maintained by his father and dutifully repeated by the media. Hunter Biden did “nothing wrong,” and reporters pressing questions of corruption were immediately attacked.

The US Defense Department has released a selfie taken in the cockpit of a U-2 spy plane, as an airman flew above the Chinese surveillance balloon that was shot down by the US military earlier this month.
The selfie, taken by the pilot of the U-2, shows the shadow of the aircraft on the balloon and a clear image of the balloon's payload as it crossed across the continental United States. CNN first reported the existence of the selfie.
The balloon was first spotted by the US on January 28 and ultimately shot down by the US military off the coast of South Carolina after crossing the country.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper said Tuesday on his show “The Lead” that former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) running for president brings out a “very ugly side of the left.”
Tapper said, “The New York Times opinion writer Wajahat Ali made very critical comments yesterday or maybe Sunday about Governor Nikki Haley, who is now running for president. Take a look.” On MSNBC, Ali said, “She uses her brown skin as a weapon against poor black folks and poor brown folks, and she uses her brown skin to launder white supremacist talking points. The reason I feel sad is because no matter what she does, it will never be

Lemme just wipe this big, ol’ grin offa my face and I’ll tell you about how the swift and mighty swords of the DeSantis response team are claiming another set of media heads. (That almost needs to be set to music…)
And I’ll let you know right out the box, what she said is not going to be enough.
This whole thing started a little less than a week ago when NBC’s Andrea Mitchell sat down with the second most inert member of the Biden administration (next to Pothole Pete), vapid response specialist Vice President Harris. In doe-eyed, most sincere reporterly fashion, Mitchell asked the VP why the racist governor of Florida,

After weeks of inaction, the White House has finally decided who to blame for the ecological disaster currently unfolding in East Palestine, OH.
In a shocking, completely unexpected turn of events, it’s not US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg who is at fault. He’s too busy taking “personal time” anyway. Rather, those dastardly Republicans have struck again. Apparently, somehow, they are singularly responsible for an axle breaking on a train despite Democrats having total government control for the last two years. It’s hard to quantify the amount of sheer gall and shamelessness it takes to put out a statement like that when the Biden administration has yet to send a single representative

Vivek Ramaswamy, the anti-ESG investment entrepreneur, had hinted that he was contemplating joining the Republican presidential primary fray, so it wasn’t a complete surprise when he announced on Tucker Carlson’s show that he’s decided to run. And why not? Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign showed that Americans were sick of politics as usual, and that particular illness is probably going to be much worse after four years of Biden. The big question, of course, is what Ramaswamy has to offer. I happen to think that he has a lot to offer.
Ramaswamy, 37, is a Midwesterner, having been born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, to parents who immigrated from Vadakkencherry in India.
