HOUSTON — The One Safe Houston violent crime reduction program hosted its latest event today in northeast Harris County. Editorial note: The above video aired on Feb. 6 when the third gun buyback was announced. According to Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Houstonians traded in nearly 800 guns at the event. The event went from 8 a.m. to noon at Deussen Park. People turning in guns will got gift cards ranging from $50 to $200, depending on the type of weapon and whether it still works. “We don’t ask questions,” Ellis said. “We don’t care if they come from other counties.” There was initially a vendor issue with the gift cards

Hmmm ... $50 to $200. It's time to get those 3D printers cranking again. Large profits to be made.

They would be laughed at here, but if such a thing were to be planned I think I would get some cash and set up a booth a block away. Anyone stupid enough to participate is stupid enough to sell to me. And anyway, you cant "buy back" what you never owned in the first place. I bet those cops got some nice take-homes.

So at an average price of $125, this cost the citizens of Harris County $100,000 and will prevent a total of zero murders. Not much of a return on investment. Instead of buying back useless guns, we should be putting the thugs back in prison.

How many of the 'males' (not MEN!) that 'turned in' these guns also had their penises cut off to prevent rape from occurring in the city? It's a parallel situation. Just asking.

Don't know about anyone else, but I don't have a gun that I'd sell for as little as $200. With a dim bulb in the White House, the price of guns, even mediocre ones, have skyrocketed.

The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, which is investigating the Biden family's business dealings, has asked a former Serbian official for an interview and documents related to Hunter Biden. The Republican-led committee sent a five-page letter Tuesday to Vuk Jeremić, who served as Serbia's foreign minister and president of the U.N. General Assembly from 2012 to 2013. "The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating President Biden's connections to certain international and domestic business transactions and practices, including his family and associates who peddled influence to generate millions of dollars for the Biden family," chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., wrote in the letter.

How is American education going? In at least one blue midwestern state, not well. Nonprofit research organization Wirepoint has looked into Illinois public schools, and their performance deserves less than an “A+.” Among more than 30 institutions of learning, zero students can read at their respective grade levels. As for math, across 53 schools, no students are proficient. The bulk of those underperforming campuses — twenty-two in the case of reading and thirty-three in the case of math — sit within the City of Chicago School District — where taxpayers annually spend between $5,929 and $56,311 per student.

If you live in a major city in the US you've probably noticed the amount of poop on sidewalks has rocketed in recent years. Other than being an eye sore — and turning your daily commute into an obstacle course — feces-infested streets can also cause serious harm to your health, experts warn. The problem was highlighted in a study by researchers in NYC last week, which found the city's posh Upper East Side neighborhood is covered in 300 times more poop than what would be needed to close a local beach. But the issue is more widespread, with the once pristine streets and rivers

The culprit was a so-called misconfiguration that left the server without a password. The server was loaded with files containing sensitive personnel information from the past several years, including a completed SF-86 questionnaire.
