"The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg wondered on Monday if "we need to see White people get beat up" to see meaningful police reform before clarifying that she was "not suggesting that" following the death of Tyre Nichols. "Do we need to see White people also get beat before anybody will do anything? I’m not suggesting that. So don’t write us and tell me what a racist I am. I’m just asking is that what people have to see in order to wake up and realize this affects us all?" Goldberg asked.

Former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines was barricaded in a room at San Francisco State University Thursday night after she was physically assaulted following a speech to students about saving women's sports at a Turning Point USA and Leadership Institute event on the campus.
Louis Barker, Riley's husband, said he had brief conversations with her while she was barricaded in the room for nearly three hours.
"She told me she was hit multiple times by a guy in a dress. I was shaking. It made me that mad. It makes me sick to feel so helpless about it," Barker said.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., angrily hit back at congressional Republicans during a raucous speech on the House floor Thursday in response to a vote to boot Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., off the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The New York Democratic lawmaker declared to her fellow members that the GOP was "targeting women of color" with its vote to oust Omar, which Republicans said was due to past antisemitic and anti-American remarks.

On New Year’s Day, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul was sworn in for her first full term. Washington - The Supreme Court on Thursday denied West Virginia's request to let it fully enforce a state law that bans transgender women and girls from participating on public school sports teams consistent with their gender identity.
In an unsigned order, the court denied West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey's emergency request to let the state enforce the 2021 law. Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented, saying they would have granted the request.
Earlier this year, a lower federal court ordered the state to temporarily stop halt the ban against Becky Pepper-Jackson, a 12-year-old transgender girl who sued the state over the law shortly after its passage.
