Breaking: Kevin McCarthy fails to win Speaker in 4th vote! (Photo) On Tuesday, Trump endorsed Kevin McCarthy failed three times to win the vote for US Speaker of the House. It was the first time in 100 years that Speakership was not decided in the first vote.
Kevin McCarthy lost the third vote for House Speaker on Tuesday afternoon, with 20 Republicans voting for Rep. Jim Jordan.
The winning Republican can only afford to lose four votes! He must reach 218 votes to win the Speakership. And the GOP holds a narrow 222 to 212 majority in the chamber.

Wouldn't a Byron Donalds' speakership go right up the democrats' collective sasses!

Something could solve this if McCarthy withdrew seeing the writing on the wall. I just want him gone. I'm tired of losing so just lose big if you have to. Mitch McConnell blew up the 'red wave' so why not just the nation with more failure. The GOP can just become the Uniparty because I don't care anymore.

So how many votes will have to be taken before McCarthy decides to back away from the speaker position? I don't see the 20 flipping their votes for him. Too much feces under the bridge for them to make amends. McCarthy is too much of a rino, entrenched, member of the Swamp. I know there are many holding their noses, pointing fingers, celebrating this so called "chaos". But what is more American that having a disagreement and expressing those concerns in a public square? So Nan had a noose around the private parts of her "people". God forbid if you did not agree with her. Go ahead, fight it out but this is in McCarthy's hands. He can withdraw gracefully or I guess they can just keep kicking him to the curb until he gets it. Reminds me of the Bush/Gore situation. Highly interesting and probably something that we won't see again in a long time. And until this situation is settled they can't pass any more legislation to "help" us. So for the moment we are reprieved from their wisdom.

I am not a big McCarthy fan, but the writing on the wall is that the McCarthy votes are not budging (except for Donalds’s own vote which moved from McCarthy to himself). Pragmatically speaking, the writing McCarthy sees on this wall is that he has a very large majority of the Republican votes. Why on earth would he fold?

I fail to see how a McCarthy speakership is good for the GOP. Or qualified a bit, good for the GOP that I want to be part of. In the Senate, we have McConnell who is mostly a disappointment. We alway hear, "Oh, this wet noodle is better than a democrat". So we always end up with wet noodles. I for one, am tired of wet noodles. I live in Texas where we have Cornyn, yet another wet noodle who has continually gotten re-elected because he's presumably better than a democrat. I am tired of the uni-party. Bravo for the 20 hold out republicans. It's time we got rid of these worthless establishment republicans.
Besides, what kind of attitude is "I earned it". McCarthy deserves nothing.

You're right #8. McCarthy is a stinkin' rino who will fail on the scale of McConnell. Also, cornholio (Cornyn) should have been primaried a long time ago. He's a stinkin' rino too. So sick of having to vote for him in the general election, since a commiecrat is not an option.

can't wait to see / hear the demcommies if Donalds is elected Speaker because you can't accuse someone of being "racist" if they select a black American to lead them
