Authorities are investigating at least three shootings this week when the victim of a robbery or burglary shot the people allegedly committing the crimes.
Since Sunday, three people have been shot in Houston while authorities say they were attempting robberies. Of the three people shot, two of them died.
"The way society is going, more and more people are going to look to that and say hey look, the officers can’t defend us because there’s not enough of them to be here," said Douglas Griffith, President of the Houston Police Officers’ Union. "So, they are going to take matters into their own hands."

Hope this serves as a deterrent, but most likely the thugs will adopt more 'sneak attack' methods. More drive-bys. More attacks from behind. The thugs are mostly cowards. Unless they are nuts or high, they don't want to get hurt.

Of course, this corresponds to the news today that the CDC has scrubbed all defensive gun use from their data.

HMMM...The avg 911 response time for Houston is approx 4-5 1/2 minutes.
The avg response time of a S&W # 19 is approx 1,2oo ft. per sec.
Who ya gonna call ?

This is why we need more Westerns.
Those movies explored places/times when there was little to no justice provided by the government. "Taking the law into your own hands", posses - vigilante and otherwise, vigilante justice.
And what happens when the Vigilantes effectively turn into their own ungoverned gang, as they almost invariably do.
(BTW, this was not only an Anglo concept, the Spanish border colonies, later provinces of Mexico, had the concept of "el juez de campo" – the field judge. The militia was allowed to dispense summary justice against outlaws, smugglers, foreign intruders and hostile Indians on the spot.)
All of the above are characterized by the famous line, "Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!" and all its ramifications.
You won't be happy with a weak civil government and a defunded police force.

FTA: "The way society is going, more and more people are going to look to that and say hey look, the officers can’t defend us because there’s not enough of them to be here," said Douglas Griffith, There never was and never will be enough officers to "defend us". Officers are only there to clean up the mess, try to find out what happened and hopefully try to find the perps.

President of the Houston Police Officers' Union: "If you’re [a] criminal, you may want to think about it. There are people out there who are tired of this. They’re going to do what they have to do to protect their property."
Indeed. An increased probability of death raises the cost of doing business, if your business is "burglar." That should be an expensive business, and I hope it increasingly becomes more expensive to conduct that business.

#12, yeah, there has never been a time when there was enough LEOs to "defend us."
However, the has been times when people believed that a system to protect them was in place and it, mostly, worked. Also, a time when the crooks (who are a very optimistic group), believed there was a chance they might be apprehended and maybe even punished.
When this belief falls down, we are all in trouble.

Keep it up, guys!!! Happy shooting! I guess soon we will have the thugs go to the police and complain about it, if they can still walk and talk!

My "castle" is defended by Remington, Sig Sauer, Bersa, Ruger and Mauser and I carry. I pray I will never need to use them, but with a certain entitled group of "Americans" becoming more demanding and daring, as well as who knows what is coming across our borders, I am prepared.

I'd call this a good trend. I agree with the police officer, that people are tired of this. Pretending that you are safe and that the police can actually protect you from violence in most places is an error. Protect yourself and your loved ones.
