Paris has been named the world's top city destination, according to a study that rates cities for tourism, sustainability and economic performance. Paris takes the No.1 spot for the second year running in Euromonitor International's Top 100 City Destinations ranking, produced from a comparison of 57 metrics across six 'key pillars' – economic and business performance; tourism performance; tourism infrastructure; tourism policy and attractiveness; health and safety; and sustainability. The annual report, issued in partnership with data intelligence company Transparent Intelligence, places Dubai second, followed by Amsterdam (third) and Madrid (fourth).

Thank goodness the world’s idiots aren’t being funneled to Disney and Orlando anymore. I would urge everyone not already in Florida to please stay out of Florida. It’s a horrible, horrible place and it’s probably best if you just stay home. (All LDotters are welcome, though)

Paris is a beautiful city. I have spent extended stays there - mostly with a friend who had a 1918 vintage apartment. Somewhat different than being a “tourist”. I was even mistaken for a local by an American couple who asked me for directions in the Metro in pigeon French. I was pleased to know that I didn’t look like a tourist. All big cities have their flaws. And for the sensible, their “no go” areas. I loved Paris. Re #4, Monte Carlo is a lovely little place

I was in Paris a few years ago. The core is still lovely but has pickpockets and scammers roaming the streets. The outskirts on the way to Charles de Gaulle Airport are horrible. Grim, Soviet style concrete apartment buildings, graffiti and trash everywhere. I know all big cities have their problem areas but this was shocking to me. We won’t be going back.

In the sixth installment of the Twitter Files, journalist Matt Taibbi revealed that Twitter had a “one-big-happy-family” partnership with the FBI to censor content on its platform. Taibbi released the sixth installment of the Twitter Files document dump, which he dubbed “TWITTER, THE FBI SUBSIDIARY.” (Tweet) "The #TwitterFiles show something new: agencies like the FBI and DHS regularly sending social media content to Twitter through multiple entry points, pre-flagged for moderation,” Taibbi wrote. For example, Taibbi revealed that former Twitter Trust and Safety chief Yoel Roth exchanged “over 150 emails” with the FBI between January 2020 to November 2022.

The FBI has refused to say how many social media companies it works with, defending their actions after it emerged that agents from the bureau regularly met with Twitter executives and handed over lists of accounts they found questionable. Officials from the bureau even asked for Twitter to hand over the locations from where the Twitter accounts were being operated, in a disturbing move that many saw as an attack on the First Amendment. One user targeted by the FBI, who goes by @Lexitollah, said: 'Seems like prima facie 1A violation.' Charlie Hurt, the opinion editor of The Washington Examiner, said it was 'a clear violation of the First Amendment.'

Elon Musk has reinstated the Twitter accounts of a half dozen journalists who had been briefly suspended for showing how to track the location of the billionaire’s private jet. The move to lift the bans early Saturday came after Musk faced a firestorm of criticism from prominent political figures, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff, for suspending the accounts. The Twitter CEO said he allowed the users back on the platform based on the results of a 24-hour Twitter survey that he posted Thursday night

A majority of Americans oppose President Joe Biden’s expansive “Catch and Release” network releasing tens of thousands of border crossers into American towns and cities every month, a new poll finds. According to the latest Los Angeles Times/YouGov poll, 65 percent of Americans said Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) ought to be either detaining border crossers and illegal aliens or immediately deporting them to their native countries after they arrive at the United States-Mexico border. Fewer than 2 in 10 Americans said they support Biden’s Catch and Release network.

Don’t let anyone tell you the border isn’t a disaster. Mayor Eric Adams has asked FEMA for $1 billion to cope with the consequences of the Biden administration’s refusal to enforce the border. FEMA’s responsibilities include dealing with wildfires, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and now, another kind of disaster: an open border. And it’s about to get worse. This Wednesday, December 21, something called Title 42 is supposed to end (though a judge may keep it going a little longer). The program was a holdover from the COVID pandemic and allows Border Patrol agents to bounce illegal border-jumpers back into Mexico without getting a hearing or making an asylum claim.

Musk’s abrupt pivot from free speech champion to censor elicited shrieking condemnation from political figures who ignored previous Twitter management’s 2020 censorship of The Post for reporting on documents from Hunter Biden’s laptop.

But will she continue to serve for another two years, completing the term of the 118th Congress? Don’t ask me. Don’t ask her, either — it’s not a question she wants to answer, apparently. Reporters who didn’t know that, if there were any, found out during a Thursday news conference when someone had the audacity to bring it up. “Will you commit to serving your full two-year term for the people of San Francisco?” a reporter asked. “What is this? What is this?” Pelosi responded.
