“Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.”
“I’m sure the universe is full of intelligent life. It’s just been too intelligent to come here.”
― Arthur C. Clarke
I am old enough to remember the Apollo Project. One of the things I recall, besides Saturday morning cartoons being interrupted by shots of the astronauts, was the return of Apollo 11. The astronauts were placed in quarantine because no one was entirely sure that they had not picked up any strange things while being exposed to the moon dust on their suits and tools.

Even the simplest living thing is complex beyond comprehension. In order for life to be present it must also possess the ability to reproduce. Reproduction is a value that a mindless process would place no premium upon, ie., reproduction is FORWARD looking. Mindless interactions between inanimate matter cannot look forward, backward or sideways.
Life is by design. The forward looking nature of reproduction is proof of that.

Perhaps the best thing that humanity can be to an alien civilization which is more advanced than we are, is "interesting." Being "unimportant," "primitive," or "dangerous" in their eyes will not bode well for us. And until most of our globe has gone atheist, governments may be loath to reveal any advanced alien civilization which could clash with religious beliefs on our planet by simply "disproving" them.

With commonality of chemistry and likely biology, with trillions upon trillions of planets in the universe, it is likely that there is much extra-terrestrial life out there. However, we will never know, never see little green men. We are environmentally and energy isolated. Interstellar travel is impossible.

One thing that irks me about articles like this is that no religious explanation is ever given as even a remote possibility. Decades ago that wasn't the case. Nowadays all the Big Science Brains are atheists. It just might be that the entire universe was created by God who chose to put life in only one place. We are alone, always have been and always will be. I enjoy SiFi as much as anyone. But it's a whole lot of Fi and very little Si.

The search for "intelligent life" in our universe requires perpetual funding from less than intelligent taxpayers.

Thank you, #4
Why is the Earth's orbit around the Sun on the same path (for the most part).
How does gravity work? Why don't the people in the Southern Hemisphere fall off the Earth?
Who created gravity?
If the Earth fell, where would it fall to?
Creator-centric questions never end.

The Universal Consciousness that is the basis of all that exists is beyond the comprehension of our brains, intellectual processes. Here, exists and does not exist both are true and false at the same time. Sounds weird doesn’t it?

Heck, we can’t even secure our southern border. Why are we worrying about this crap?

They would do better to colonize leftists’ brains with some AI, because the real stuff isn’t working.

1, given 2 random chemical processes X and Y, then:
If X randomly stumbled into creating more of its self and Y did not then we will see a lot of X as it reproduces but no more of Y over time than random chance.
It has nothing to do with planning ahead, decisions, consciousness, etc.
Given that there are quintillions (or more) planets in the universe and each one has the possibility of random chemical interactions over billions of years and it only takes 1 to stumble into self replication... no, design is not a necessity. Just big numbers over long time periods will eventually make some extremely unlikely things become very likely.

Astrobiologist. That's a new one.
Yeah...I found out my proctologist used to work for RotoRooter.

I suspect many of the same people who think we pose a risk to alien civilizations and should not explore space are the same people who want to keep our southern border open so anyone can invade the USA without any vetting for either intent or disease.

What a bunch of drivel. Yes, we do not want to bring back deadly microbes from a foreign planet, that's pretty easy. But, if we go to a planet where there is no intelligent life and change it to suit us.....so WHAT? The ultimate goal is NOT to 'leave all of the galaxy unchanged by humans', although that seems to be the leftists and ecocrazy's goal for this planet. NOTHING ever changed from the way it was before we got there.
Nature blows out a trillion tons of toxic sludge and deadly gases from a volcano, wiping out all life over 100 square miles.....and that's "natural". And humans make a mine and it disrupts a forest for a century, which eventually grows back just fine, and that is "destroying the planet". BULL. Man modifying this or any other planet for our benefit is NORMAL and it is just fine. Should we be careful to not wipe out important species? Yes. But if some minnow, which is only very, very slightly different than a dozen other species of minnows and which only lives in one small area gets wiped out - I just can't get too worked up about it.
But the ecocrazies would stop ALL human progress for such things.
Here or on other planets.

There are many things that cause me have pause, being alone in the Universe is not one of them. I don't care that no other planet has seen fit to come here and give us the benefit of their superior knowledge, and I don't believe in space aliens. There are many unexplained thing on this earth that some people credit to space people who came here and built. I say BS.

#15, we seem quite capable of producing deadly microbes by sending money to Wuhan.

At this point, the only way I can see humans propagating the universe is by sending ai-crewed ships on 40,000 year journeys to nearby stars. Then the computers would reassemble humans by growing them as babies and educating them. Then each new star sends out a new ship every thousand years. Meanwhile unless the new planets we find have life on them, it will take thousands of years to terraform them. Without the changes engineered by life, the earth would still be a methane ammonia hellhole.

Are there other life forms 'out there' somewhere?
Who knows.
As I understand it, based on Einstein's theories -which have not yet been disproven- travel 'faster than the speed of light' (speed relative to what, I don't know) is not possible. Given that restriction, the distances between stars, between star clusters, between galaxies, is just so large that any life form or civilization has a remotely small chance of living long enough to survive such a journey.
So, as far as I am concerned, this is all just idle yak-yak-yak from some person who is likely educated.... and paid by the Taxpayers..... far beyond their worth and intelligence.
