NEW YORK -- The countdown to Election Day is on as the final weekend of early voting commences in New York. So far, turnout in New York City has been low. Only around 280,000 early voters have been reported, which is why candidates have a number of weekend rallies to push people to the polls, CBS2's Christina Fan reported Saturday. (Tweet) Democrats are trying to stave off major losses in the midterms nationwide, including in New York's congressional races and tightening race for governor. Incumbent Democrat Kathy Hochul and Republican challenger Lee Zeldin continue to trade jabs over crime. "Stop lying

Comments:

Especially low in The Bronx with only 26,000 early voters in a borough with 1.3 million residents.

As Rush always said: if it isn't close, they can't cheat. But it is rather novel, and encouraging, that they need to do it this year even in NY.

Are these early voting numbers a portent of Election Day's turnout? Maybe the Democrats are embarrassed enough to either vote Republican or just stay home.

Actually a good sign. Democrats not enthused but not yet disgusted enough to take the red pill. Should be good for now.

Early voting just gives them more time to throw Republican ballots in the trash. That would explain low numbers.

Never-Trump columnist Mona Charen faced intense social media backlash after insisting that violent crime, aside from murder, was not rising despite crime being a major midterm election issue. On Saturday, Charen tweeted a link to a Pew Research Center survey on crime leading up to the midterm election. The link, she stated, proved that, despite voters’ concerns for crime, violent crime "other than murder" was not higher than usual. "Other than murder, violent crime is not up. Did you know that? Violent crime is a key midterm voting issue, but what does the data say?" Charen, who is a policy

COLUMBUS, Ohio – There are only a few days left for you to cast your vote in this year’s midterm election, and the U.S. Senate race between Republican JD Vance and Democrat Tim Ryan has been in a statistical dead heat for much of the campaign. Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams argued that she will win her election on Tuesday if voters can "navigate" the alleged voter suppression systems installed in her state by her opponent Gov. Brian Kemp, R-Ga. She spent a good portion of her interview with MSNBC anchor Ali Velshi on Saturday complaining about Georgia Republicans’ supposed voter suppression initiatives and attempts to "game the system" to stay in power next election day, despite record early voting turnout across the state. The conversation began with the host bringing up polling which has Abrams "trailing Gov. Kemp by double digits." Though he mentioned

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is perhaps in the most comfortable position among incumbent governors facing reelection on Tuesday. He has nearly a 12-point advantage over his Democratic rival Charlie Crist and not only is he fairly popular among Florida residents, he is a rising star in the GOP who has appeared all over the country in recent weeks boosting other gubernatorial candidates. However, it appears his biggest critics this election cycle have been the local press. I guess it was just a matter of time, but doing it three days before the mid-terms seems less than ideal. Donald Trump held a rally in Pennslyvania tonight, but as usual, the candidates running for office were an afterthought. Instead, the former president spent the majority of the time talking about himself. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s a Trump rally after all, and to be sure, they can be very entertaining. Unfortunately, instead of some of the good things he said making news, there’s currently just one clip going gangbusters on Saturday night. The Canadian healthcare system is experiencing an acute shortage of basic painkillers, particularly acetaminophen and ibuprofen, which are commonly used to relieve pain and fever in children during flu season. Canada’s Association of Medical Assistance in Dying Assessors and Providers (CAMAP) chose this perhaps awkward moment to roll out a webinar for healthcare professionals that advised them to offer assisted suicide to their suffering patients. As Canada’s National Post noted, doctors around the world are normally “explicitly prohibited or strongly discouraged” from bringing up the subject of euthanasia, even in jurisdictions where assisted suicide is legal.
