The attack on Paul Pelosi, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, has dominated the news the last few days. Questions still remain about how David DePape, a nudist protester with a convoluted political history, got inside the house, but what appears fairly clear is that the assailant had a drug-induced psychotic break. Naturally, though, the easy answer isn’t the one the left wants. Instead, they want to pretend that Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy making a joke a year ago is what actually “radicalized” DePape because everything must be stupid. Joe Biden was at a reception for Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist in Golden Beach, Florida, on Tuesday. That followed a nightmare rally with Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), which had all kinds of issues–as we reported here and here–in a festival of confusion, including saying his son died in Iraq, forgetting what FEMA stands for, confusing Iraq and Ukraine, and claiming he spoke with the “inventor of insulin.” While there, he also spoke about the attack on Paul Pelosi. Biden lied and claimed that no one in the Republican Party leadership had condemned the attack. Her basic argument is that ironic liberal comedy isn’t as popular as it once was and that’s bad news for reasons she never bothers to explain or justify. The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a request from Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., to quash a grand jury subpoena in a Georgia prosecutor’s probe into alleged interference in the 2020 presidential election.
The decision is a victory for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, whose office is investigating phone calls Graham made to Georgia election officials at a time when then-President Donald Trump was contesting the result. As a result of the court action, the subpoena can now be enforced, although Graham could refuse to answer questions by invoking his right against self-incrimination under the Constitution's Fifth Amendment.

Trump and his legal team on Monday filed asking the Supreme Court to block the release of his tax records.

Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin takes the lead in the New York gubernatorial race in his attempt to oust Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul, according to a Trafalgar Group poll published late Monday night.

I’ve been looking for tea leaves to read in connection with the midterm elections next week. The Twitter feed of Interactive Polls links to the Wall Street Journal poll reported here in today’s paper. (The tweet links to an accessible version of the story here.)
The poll was conducted by Republican pollster Tony Fabrizio and Democratic pollster John Anzalone. I trust that when commissioned by the Wall Street Journal, they take their partisan hats off or that the combination of the two does it for them.
