Green Line riders passing by Washington Park this weekend should look for a bustle of activity down below.
Several vacant lots around Prairie Avenue and 53rd Street are being turned over on Saturday and 100,000 red tulip bulbs will be planted. Late this week, there were stakes in place, outlining where the bulbs will go.
From ground level, it’s hard to tell, but seen from the L, it becomes apparent the tulips are being planted with a bigger picture in mind.
“We’re planting the tulips in the shape of houses that should exist,” said Amanda Williams, the artist behind the project.

That intersection was a jungle killing field back in the 50s. Planting flowers is a complete virtue-signaling waste of time. Grave digging is a better use of that time.

FTA: Titled “Redefining Redlining,” the work aims to spark conversation around the disempowerment of Black neighborhoods that followed from banks refusing to lend to residents.
Seriously?! Redlining was outlawed in the 1960s but yeah, let's use that as an excuse for why nothing good has happened in the neighborhood in the past 50 years.

Are there enough police officers available to protect the bulb planters from being robbed, carjacked, or murdered?

I read that during WW II, some Dutch people were so desperate for food that they dug up and ate tulip bulbs. Some Chicago denizens will do the same.

I imagine the green/purple haired, smelly birkenstock, basement dwelling antifa types will show up to stomp down all those tulips because they represent those white supremacists who invaded and stole the native Americans' lands, and it gives them the vapors. We cannot have that!

I dunno, sounds like racist gentrification to me. Tulips have historically been a symbol of power and wealth, having originated in the Ottoman Empire, which was a notorious slave trading country. But I'm sure their intentions are noble. (snickers)

“Around April, May it’s gonna be a sea of red and it’s going to let us have conversations about what we want for our communities,” said Ghian Foreman, the president and CEO of Emerald South, a South Side development group."
You need tulips to have a conversation?

WHat a waste of money. So, who's brother is selling the bulbs to the city? And who's cousin has the contract to put them in?

RE #9:
Tulip bulbs, as well as daffodils and other bulbs, are best planted in the fall.
