Justice Gorsuch Shares Update on SCOTUS
Leak Investigation

While speaking on a panel during a judicial conference in Colorado, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch reiterated again that the Court's investigation into the leak of a draft opinion earlier this year was continuing. "The chief justice appointed an internal committee to oversee the investigation," Gorsuch noted on Thursday, adding the committee has "been busy" in the months following the unprecedented leak that stunned Court watchers and breached the longstanding trust within the Supreme Court. "We’re looking forward to their report, I hope soon," Gorsuch added, though he didn't say whether the investigation's findings about who leaked the draft or how it ended up published by POLITICO

While the Dobbs decision sharply divided the court—and unleashed a new, post-Roe era in the politics of abortion—Justice Gorsuch Thursday said “there’s so much more that unites us than divides us.” He noted, for instance, his partnership with Justice Sonia Sotomayor, a Dobbs dissenter, to promote civics education. Wow! That’s a really important collaboration. Hope it works out.

Chief Justice John "Rodent" Roberts probably knows that many have lawyered-up. The Rodent hopes that the "leaker" steps forward, in the name of justice, of course.

A Clinton-appointed federal Judge blocked a new Arizona election integrity law from being enforced in the upcoming 2022 General Election. HB2247 is meant to clean the voter rolls and remove registrants who are registered in another state and no longer live in Arizona. The new law would add a statement on voter registration forms, specifying that if a registrant permanently moves to another state after registering in this state, their registration will be canceled.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday that their week-long sting, called “Operation Fall Haul II,” discovered at least two sex trafficking victims. Sheriff Grady Judd said during a press conference that there could potentially be more victims. “Our goal is to start services the moment that they are taken into custody and to treat them as what they are, victims, not as suspects in a criminal event,” said Judd.” Operation Fall Haul II” also led to the arrest of two Disney employees, a state corrections officer, several

NEW YORK — Payment processor Visa Inc. said Saturday that it plans to start separately categorizing sales at gun shops, a major win for gun control advocates who say it will help better track suspicious surges of gun sales that could be a prelude to a mass shooting. But the decision by Visa, the world’s largest payment processor, will likely provoke the ire of gun rights advocates and gun lobbyists, who have argued that categorizing gun sales would unfairly flag an industry when most sales do not lead to mass shootings. It joins Mastercard and American Express, which also said they plan to move forward with categorizing gun shop sales.

Former President Donald Trump may avoid legal trouble before the midterm elections as federal prosecutors have missed an unofficial deadline to announce charges 60 days before Election Day. The Department of Justice is likely to hold off on deciding whether to press charges against the former president, abiding by the “60 Day Rule”: a long-standing yet unofficial tradition that the DOJ avoids making consequential decisions within 60 days of an election that could affect voters’ decisions. The 60-day marker for the 2022 midterm elections fell on Friday, meaning it is unlikely Trump will face any charges until after the election.

Chief Justice John Roberts has defended the Supreme Court, but refused to comment further on the mysterious leak that has remained unsolved. Roberts took aim at the court's critics in a speech Friday night, which marked his first public appearance since Roe v. Wade was overturned earlier this year. “If the court doesn’t retain its legitimate function of interpreting the Constitution, I’m not sure who would take up that mantle. You don’t want the political branches telling you what the law is, and you don’t want public opinion to be the guide about what the appropriate decision is,” Roberts said.

Why doctors aren't speaking out 27 replies

Dear Steve, You ask why doctors are silent. The electronic medical records (EMRs) are a ball and chain to physicians. We are tracked through them. When I wrote a prescription for Ivermectin for a patient, with informed consent (she was vaccinated), I received 5 letters threatening my medical license, my hospital privileges, and my insurance contracts. I would not have received 5 letters if I killed someone in negligence or malpractice. If I have my license pulled, I will no longer be able to help my patients. I speak to patients on a one-on-one basis, but speaking out would destroy my family.

CBS News has a big scoop this afternoon. The industry group that sets international standards for credit card companies has decided to create a new code for the purchase of guns and ammo that, while not identifying the exact purchases, will separate those items from the more generic category they had been lumped in with previously. Merchant category codes are made up of four digits and are used across all sorts of industries as a means to classify retailers, while not revealing individual product purchases. Credit card companies currently lump firearm retailers in with other outlets, classifying them as either “5999: Miscellaneous retail stores” or “5941: Sporting Goods Stores.”

King Charles III, who ascended to the throne on Thursday, has chosen to rule with the name he was given at birth. But as a British king it comes with baggage. Charles I, born in 1600, endured a stormy reign that ended with his execution 49 years later. In between, he provoked a civil war and erased the notion of an all-powerful monarchy—or indeed, of any monarchy at all for the 11 years after his beheading outside Banqueting House in London. Charles II, his son, chose to lay low on the European continent for what came to be known

In early September, Joe Biden delivered what has now been dubbed his “red speech.” Somehow, the content managed to be worse than the presentation. The president railed against “MAGA Republicans,” declaring them enemies of the state and a threat to the republic. Truly, it was the most obscene speech a president has given since the popularization of modern national addresses. Far from being a unifying figure, Biden chose to drive a knife through the heart of the country, and it didn’t take long for the walk-backs to begin. Pretty soon, the president began insisting that he wasn’t talking about “mainstream Republicans” and that the “ultra MAGA” represented
