Chief Justice John Roberts has defended the Supreme Court, but refused to comment further on the mysterious leak that has remained unsolved.
Roberts took aim at the court's critics in a speech Friday night, which marked his first public appearance since Roe v. Wade was overturned earlier this year.
“If the court doesn’t retain its legitimate function of interpreting the Constitution, I’m not sure who would take up that mantle. You don’t want the political branches telling you what the law is, and you don’t want public opinion to be the guide about what the appropriate decision is,” Roberts said.

'Interpreting'? Try reading it, Roberts. I might add the SC simply took that mantle on itself, it wasn't given it via the constitution.

John "Rodent" Roberts enjoys the Deep State Deep Swamp. He's a member of it. He got many friends in low places.

Are you saying that what people feel is not as important as what is written in the Constitution? /s

Try following the Constitution. It really isn’t that difficult.

And yet he argued that Roe shouldn't be overturned in toto but rather 'defanged' and his reasoning was in part based on what people might think. He is such a faithless schmuck.

This is a "Duh!" statement by the Chief Justice that has allowed EXACTLY THAT to happen. Roberts is "concerned" with the public appearance of the SCOTUS decisions and tried to mollify public response by moderating the court's opinions. That IS responding to public opinion. Liberal justices have allowed popular opinion to guide their decision for decades. That is why there is a low opinion of the court.
The Constitution defines the law. In many cases, it may define issues as NOT within federal jurisdiction and should devolve to the states, as it just did with abortion. That was the correct decision that SHOULD have been made 50 years ago. Even now, Roberts opinion wanted to hang on to the federal control of abortion to mollify public opinion, the wrong Constitutional decision for the wrong reasons, public reaction.

Get a clue Johnny. The left is pretty much ignoring the constitution and your courts rulings already. For America to work, honest people must be running it.......something we no longer have.

Funny, I thought that was one of the main reasons he refused to let the Court get involved in the 2020 election steal.

From the same guy who refused to take any case involving 2020 election fraud because he feared what the “public opinion” of the left might do in response.

Roberts himself is not above suspicion and his integrity was on display when he refused to look into the 2020 election corruption. "No precedent" is not a valid excuse because there has to be a first time for everything.

There is an amazing 'sword' handing over the guy's head for him to be tap dancing around the issues in the fashion that he does. Or I could be wrong and there is some reasoning that I just can't fathom.
My sense though is that his 'handlers' can sense the shift that is occurring and are trying to maintain as much control as long as they can by tearing off a bit of the towel before they finally are forced to throw it all in!
Ernest Hemingway was asked how he went bankrupt once and his response was a Universal truth that I believe can be applied to the mess we now occupy as a Country and a World. He answered, 'Gradually ... and then suddenly!' When the dam breaks, there will be consequences!

Roberts says:
"You don’t want the political branches telling you what the law is ...".
Sadly, many/most of the judges have become part of the political branches, and Roberts denies it. Three justices have ZERO interest in what the Constitution says about their rulings, ONLY rule based on their political views, then write some BS cover story which they pretend excuses their political ruling.
