Democrats and Republicans agree on one thing, according to a new poll: Democracy is under threat. The Quinnipiac University poll, published on Wednesday, found that some 67 percent of all of those surveyed believed that democracy was in danger. That total included 72 percent of registered Democratic voters and 70 percent of Republicans. Details were published just ahead of a major set-piece speech on Thursday by President Joe Biden on what the White House bills as the 'battle for the soul of the nation,' in which he is expected to blast Donald Trump and his allies for undermining the nation's democracy.(Snip)'In a rare moment of agreement, Americans coalesce

Comments:

We never were a democracy, and we could not keep the republic, either. USA is now a nation of the government, by the government, and for the government, which means the international Marxist 0.1% oligarchs who pull the strings in order to maximize their wealth by pushing the rest of us into abject poverty, begging for another bowl of insects while freezing in the dark. And God bless us, we put up with it.

I have nothing to add to OP’s comments, except I was stunned by the numbers for the Communists (heretofore, referred to as “Democrats.”) When they voted “D,” what did they THINK they were getting?

Frankly, we have a zombie republic. It stopped being a republic, as founded when 3/4ths of the states agreed to the 17th amendment. Since the states gave up their voice in the senate, it's all been about party rule. And for the record, democrats play lip service to "democracy", but get their panties in a twist when the majority doesn't go along with their agenda. For example, they were incensed when they couldn't get their bills thru the senate on a 52-48 vote. Democrats want it their way regardless actual votes or polls. If they can't win at the ballot box, they will change the rules, punish their opponents, run to the packed courts, have their lapdogs in the media carry their water, weaponize the government, judicial system, IRS, etc. Failing that, they will happily stuff the ballot boxes and dare you to complain. As far as I'm concerned, we ceased being a functional republic a long time ago.

The Bolsheviks' progressive revolution started gaining momentum from the time of Trump's nomination, becoming manifest after his election, and stopped even trying to be hidden after his inauguration. Democrats and RINOs have since waged war on him and all who support him. And I suspect that to become a shooting war by November. We never were a Democracy. We aren't even a Constitutional Republic, any more, though. The Steal demonstrated that.

Sorry, OP, the reference to “democracy” is correct in the context of the poll. Endangered is the very basis of our republic, the right to vote in honest elections that send our representatives to the state and federal legislatures and executive offices. Also threatened are the rights of free speech, association, and assembly. In fact virtually the entire Constitution is under attack by various angry forces. In contrast, let’s not forget the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics…hardly a democracy with rigged voting and selected representation, that republic folded, too.

Whenever political leaders lose all political capital due to their misgovernance and have no real issues to base their campaign on, they often resort to focusing on the symbolic — usually referring to "the soul of the nation." This happened before in the U.S., it happened in India, it happened in the U.K. and it happened again in the U.S. This is most typical of the left. Instead of being humble and conceding their mistakes, they attack voters for thinking of voting against them while overlooking the myriad catastrophes they presided over. They often blame their opponents for what they are guilty of — bigotry, violence — and then end with the "soul" plea.
