Europe's summer heatwave has only just finished, but already panic is growing in Germany over what horrors may lay in store for its citizens this winter. Vladimir Putin is choking the country's gas supplies—officially because of 'essential repair work' to pipelines, though few doubt he is exacting revenge for Berlin's defiance over Ukraine. Flows through Nord Stream 1, Germany's main gas pipe, are now at 20 per cent of normal levels. There are fears it could soon close for good.(Snip)The fiasco is a legacy of Angela Merkel, who ignored 15 years of warnings from her own top energy expert Claudia Kemfert that over-reliance on Russian energy
Angela Merkel ignored those warnings because she desired the outcome which has come to pass.

Being and acting Stupid has tremendous negative influences on one's life. Germany is now experiencing that reality. The question is rather they will learn anything from this expereince. The sad news is the United States is wearing the same Dunce Cap.

FTA: “ Economy minister Robert Habeck says he is taking shorter showers, while regional leaders are dimming street lights and closing swimming pools.”
So there is a plan in place to save the day and avoid disaster. You can go back to sleep now.
The J6 Inquisition will seek to jail Trump to ensure that these disasters continue.
Sleep. Sleep. Your genitals are not what you thought they were. Sleep. Sleep.

The Germans began going down this path 40 years ago. Anyone remember when acid rain was destroying the Black Forest? Or, Atom Kraft? Nein, danke! Germans are suckers for liberal causes and nutty ideas, regardless of what many think. Like others in the developed world, they think electricity just comes out of wall sockets. Actually, until fairly recently, coal stoves were not uncommonly used to heat homes. In some areas, wood was a major heating fuel. Let's also not forget that Germans think proper winter heating is just enough so your water pipes don't freeze. Get out those Eiderdown comforters!

Why do politicians persist on relying on foreign enemies for the welfare of the country they represent? It's illogical to do that. Why would any Western nation rely on Russia (or China for that matter) for anything?

I have heard the rural parts of Germany were rushing to install wood and/or coal burning stoves. But environmental rules and scarcity of qualified installers was impeding their efforts.

What is amazing is that the Europeans didn't learn any lessons from America's experiences with Middle Eastern oil. Every time the Middle East twitched, America was drawn into the mess. We took decades to achieve independence in energy and Brandon threw it away. When energy independent we can do the right things for America and her allies. When not, we are back to begging the Saudis for oil, of which we got a smidgeon and a lesson; we CANNOT depend on them!
I have no sympathy for the arrogant Europeans who are always lecturing us about their superiority in dealing with the climate. Not only don't they not meet their snooty goals, they are now in a crisis and Putin has his foot on their throats. They had better options and they ignored them. Now they are paying the price. If Brandon hadn't ruined our oil production capability, we might have helped out. Now we can't meet our own needs.
How many face plants do progressive Europeans and Americans need to do before people realize the truth, that their ideas are dead ends?

An economic reality and fundamental principle of economics is that you cannot grow an economy, or increase the standard of living, without growing the supply of energy. Suppressing the production of energy, as in Germany and the USA, will result in a recession, and a reduction in the standard of living. The WEF is full of it.

They kept putting Frau Merkel in office, crowing about their Green Agenda, and whining about the Mean Orange Man, who warned them about exactly this scenario. USA will probably bail them out, because anything bad for the US taxpayer is good in the view of our government, but they deserve to freeze in the dark as an example to others.
