A little dog may have saved his owner’s life after making a shocking discovery while digging in the backyard. Vincent Webb’s little dog, Arthur, did what most dogs do and started digging in the backyard near the garden outside after relieving himself on Thursday in North Charleston, South Carolina, WCBD reported. Webb noticed that his dog had uncovered something very dangerous – an unexploded ordnance. “I went over and looked at it, found out it was a World War 1 artillery shell,” Webb told WCBD. The owner called 911, and the North Charleston Police Department, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad, and the U.S. Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) rushed to his house.

WOWEE! That "shell still had it's bearings inside".......LOL! Is it a requirement that to be a reporter you have to be exceptionally ignorant, or just a recommended practice? Bearings? Because bearings are so dangerous? And WW1? Gee, not a lot of WW1 battles fought in SC, I am almost certain. /s off Perhaps Civil War might be more likely, unless someone buried an old war souvenir in the back yard some time ago......with it's "bearings" still inside.....grin. I hope the TNT or black powder wasn't still inside, and the fuse, too. A friend who was a unexploded ordinance disposal guy in the US Army once told me "Oh, hell, they aren't going to go off. They were DEFECTIVE when they were new, and have been rusting in the ground for 50 years or so. They don't repair themselves." This was after he was telling me about the "fun" of helping to defuse a WW2 German 3,000 lb bomb dug up in an English school yard when he was stationed nearby. A British Army friend asked if he wanted to come and help and he jumped right in, they unscrewed the nose fuse, and then the tail fuse, and left it to be hauled away. Personally, I'll leave this to the experts. Although his point that the bomb didn't go off when it was brand new and was somehow defective, and has been getting less likely with time makes some sense to the engineering part of my brain. The self-preservation part of my brain says "Stay far away, broken or not." I listen to that side.

I once brought up a WW2 shell while diving off the coast of Saipan. I put it back on the coral reef with much more care than I had used to dig it out. As for these things still working, there is a unit in Poland that searches out German shells quite frequently and they explode them in the field.

I remember my grandfather telling me WWI stories and the battle of Charleston was one of the worse. It's got to be Civil War vintage especially using 'bearings' it must have been Union Yankee made.

Considering I have never seen a piece of ordinance in my life (other than movies, TV, or cartoons), not sure I could identify one. I'll give them the benefit of a doubt and believe what they dug up really was ordinance. Looking at the video accompanying the article, was that thing laying on the ground supposed to be the ordinance? It looked like a piece of fence.

I would have expected the explosive to have been a Civil War relic. Not something from WWI.

#2: We practiced in the U.S. for World War I before we sent our troops to Europe. Reports say it was a mortar, so not necessarily something used only by the artillery, and usually not very big, about 2 1/2" to about 6" long? Something carried about by soldiers in various pouches or an (idiot) soldier could carry around in a pocket. In other words, it could have been part of an individual's gear which he lost while scrambling around in the dirt during training. Also, the reported called it a "shell". That's the equivalent of expending bullet casings at a crime scene - what's left behind when the round is expended. It is the intact round that you really need to worry about. Since it still had its "bearings", it was a round, not a shell.

As rampant crime continues in cities across the country due to many DAs’ soft-on-crime policies, robbers stole millions of dollars worth of jewelry in California. According to the New York Post, the criminals pulled off a heist, stealing up to $150 million in jewels from a Brink’s armored truck. Authorities said the driver of the truck was driving from one convention show to another when the thieves stole the jewelry. The jewels were last seen at a trade show at the San Mateo event center last weekend. They were stolen out of a Brink’s truck in Northern Los Angeles County. The jeweler did not want to reveal his name,

Never doubt the ability of the anti-gun left to twist themselves into knots to defend their nonsensical agenda, and sure enough, that’s happening after a good guy with a gun dropped a mass shooter in Indiana. As RedState reported on Sunday evening, a man entered a mall in Greenwood Park, IN, opening fire and killing three people. Before he could continue his rampage though, a “good samaritan,” as described by the police, used a concealed pistol to take the shooter out. But while most celebrated, that ending was very inconvenient for the narrative of those who, just hours earlier, had been using a report out of Uvalde, TX,

Who didn’t see THIS coming? As if everything on the planet isn’t already racist, homophobic, transphobic, Islamophobic, misogynistic, or other such nonsense, a new controversy is brewing among anthropologists about archeologists identifying ancient human remains by gender. No, you haven’t accidentally stumbled over to The Babylon Bee. Before we continue, let’s revisit a couple of definitions, according to Merriam-Webster: Archeology: the scientific study of material remains (such as tools, pottery, jewelry, stone walls, and monuments) of past human life and activities; remains of the culture of a people. Anthropology: the science of human beings, especially: the study of human beings and their ancestors through time and space

Canada’s medical assistance in dying (MAiD) law is already the most permissive euthanasia and assisted-suicide legislation in the world. Understandably controversial in itself, there are many horror stories surrounding its implementation. For example, as lifesitenews.com recently reported, A 71-year-old widower was admitted to a Southwestern Ontario hospital after a fall. His family says during his admission he contracted an infectious diarrheal illness. He was humiliated by staff for the smell of his room, his family said. He developed a new shortness of breath that was not comprehensively assessed. In this context, a hospital team member suggested he would qualify for MAiD.

A suspected robber was shot and killed over the weekend by his intended victim who had his own weapon, Houston police said. The robbery occurred around 10:30 p.m. when a man was leaving an ATM. Another man tried to rob him and the victim pulled out a gun, Fox Houston reported. Both men fired their weapons. The suspect was struck once and authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. The news outlet said the shooter remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. In June, another Texas gun owner defended himself against when he shot a teenage would-be robber in Austin.

Police say a 26-year-old man was on a "violent crime spree" targeting multiple gas stations in St. Charles, Mo., early Saturday morning when a customer taking a bathroom break at a third station shot and killed him. The St. Charles Police Department said they were already investigating an armed robbery at one gas station and a burglary at another when they received reports of shots fired at a third: a Quik Trip location roughly 22 miles outside St. Louis. "Police Officers arrived to discover the suspect had been shot by a citizen during the armed robbery. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased,"

One of the things that most bothers me about the “Never Trumpers” is their obsession with the man. I get that they don’t like him – fine, don’t have him over for dinner – but they seemingly wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat screaming his name. Everything, in their minds, is about him and they can’t stand it or shut up about it; it’s beyond their control. The same is true, though in a different way, of the radical left. They have this uncontrollable compulsion to be as far-left as a drum circle in San Francisco, even when it damages their cause.

Why would the seated administration sue a state over a constitutionally verifiable action it takes—especially when 80% or more of its own supporters are in favor of that action? Specifically why would *President Joe Biden choose to sue the state of Arizona over a state statute, handling the state’s business? You may say, “it’s none of the Federal Government’s business what that state decides internally within its borders.” And you would be right. The Biden DOJ did that just a bit more than a week ago. Have you ever writhed in a racist dance — have you engaged in the bigotry known as ballet? If the activity isn’t fully nefarious, it’s at least a sinister sign of whiteness. That, per a high-class conservatory. The Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) — a self-identified “progressive institution” — has decided to banish ballet. From The Telegraph: NSCD…has reviewed the “elitist” art form as part of a diversity drive that has seen the introduction of new policies relating to gender and race. According to “Head of Undergraduate” Francesca McCarthy, ballet boasts a “contentious nature;” it’s saddled with the wickedness of “white European ideas.” Hence, from NSCD’s entrance auditions, ballet has been booted.
