According to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his chief accountant Chrystia Freeland, runaway inflation and the recession it announces are something of a godsend. Price increases, she said in a recent address, are “a reminder of why climate action is so important, and why we have to work…faster towards a green economy.” The benefits, according to this authority, are clear: More green energy, lower prices. The claim is so fatuous as to induce intellectual migraine. Over the last few hours, I have been reviewing our last week’s expenditures and current financial status, and I find the red column expanding faster than Freeland’s race to Green:

Oh, climate change is a disaster and we must go green right now. As fast as possible. If we don't the earth will spontaneously combust and we will all be burned alive.

"Reminder," she says. I am reminded that Junior Trudeau is the twelve-year-old that Canada elected PM. He inherited both the looks and unfortunately the mind of his mother.

No one should be shocked that economic collapse and 'Climategate' are closely allied. Don't think covid and it's disastrous results are exempt, either. What a combination to bring down the western world.

Leftists are insane. Anyone who refuses to acknowledge the fact that we are not ready to make the switch to green energy is a downright fool. There is not nearly enough infrastructure to support it. Continuing to go down this path will fast track us to end up like Sri Lanka. Wanting something does not mean that it is a viable reality. These people have lost any gripe they had on reality and are now flying in la-la land promising something they cannot deliver. We would be foolish to accept anything they say as truth.

In our town (a major city in a Northeastern state) services such as garbage, street and snow clearing, park and library hours etc. have been declining whereas the 2022/23 taxes went up a whopping 33% in one shot. Needless to say we are a heavily Democrat town. Where does this end??

Sometimes the stupidity is overwhelming. The pursuit of green energy is killing our economy so we need more of that. Even Jean-Pierre hasn't thought of that one yet.

"More green energy, lower prices" Really? Where? Where has that happened? Not in Germany. Not in the African villages. Not in my house, which is gearing up to pay $1250.00 per oil tank fill up this winter.

The only way earth is going to get too hot, is when the sun starts running out of fuel and it starts to expand swallowing the earth, and that's not expected to happen for several billion years.

The Culture War Between the States 7 replies

For decades, states have competed with one another for businesses by touting local economic advantages in areas like taxation, development incentives, workforce quality, and regulatory policy. Occasionally, states would also pitch themselves to firms on more general principles like quality of life and public investment in schools and infrastructure. Now the battle for jobs and for wealthier residents has taken a new turn, reflecting the increasingly intense cultural wars playing out in America. Facing a steadily more difficult economic battlefield, governors of Democratic-led states are pitching businesses based on social issues: access to abortion, transgender rights, and voting laws.

The Left has a rather schizophrenic attitude toward protests and demonstrations. Some are wonderful, like the George Floyd riots, which were not, in fact, protests at all. Or like arson and other destruction committed at pro-life facilities. Others are detestable, like the Dutch farmers’ protests, or the French “yellow vests,” or the Canadian truckers. Some protests, too, can only be ignored, like when hundreds of thousands of pro-life citizens show up for their annual march in Washington. Currently the Left is “demonstrating” against the Supreme Court justices who concurred in the Dobbs decision. A few nights ago, as Scott has noted, left-wingers harassed Justice Brett

Timothy Snyder, Levin Professor of History at Yale, describes what he sees as the Kremlin’s plan to drive the Third World poor into Western countries to break European support for Ukraine. “Russia has a hunger plan. Vladimir Putin is preparing to starve much of the developing world as the next stage in his war in Europe. In normal times, Ukraine is a leading exporter of foodstuffs. A Russian naval blockade now prevents Ukraine from exporting grain. If the Russian blockade continues, tens of millions of tons of food will rot in silos, and tens of millions of

The New York Post headline reads “Biden’s approval rating craters to 30% after brutal week.” Reading the same poll, RedState’s Nick Arama comments perceptively on the numbers in “Prepare for the Biden Tantrum.” What more is to be said? The reported poll is one of registered voters. If it were filtered to reflect likely voters, I have to think the results would be slightly worse. On that point, we shall see. I think that every time Biden makes a public appearance he loses ground. He is visibly infirm. He sounds stupid. How many times can he say “Not a joke” without someone giving him the hook. It’s a joke!

During Prohibition, Al Capone’s Chicago gang made the Thompson submachine gun a symbol of gang violence. The “Chicago Typewriter” could empty a hundred-round drum magazine in under ten seconds, and make headlines, while occasionally perforating both targets and bystanders. Congress saw an opportunity to “do something,” and “wasn’t willing to let a ‘crisis’ go to waste.” The ultimate result is the National Firearms Act of 1934 (“NFA”), which was later amended by the Gun Control Act of 1968 (“GCA”). The net result is that certain firearms and firearm-related items have seriously disfavored status, completely unrelated to anything having to do with crime or Constitution. The NFA states that for

Crimo went to a rooftop and opened fire on a crowd in Highland Park, Illinois who were there attending an Independence Day event. Seven people were killed with at least another 45 wounded. Crimo was apprehended by police Monday evening, but as with other mass shooters—the number of red flags could stuff the trunk of a car. If you dare to speak out against transgender ideology, you’ll likely find yourself censored from social media and ostracized by your woke friends. The far left has highly politicized the issue of transgenderism, using its influence in pop culture and government to brainwash the public, particularly children, and force them into compliance with bully tactics. So when someone on the left dares to speak out, it’s noteworthy. Why? Because they know the risks of doing so and have decided the truth is more important. As such, I applaud Grammy-winning singer Macy Gray for having the courage to speak the truth during her recent interview with Piers Morgan.

Recently, in the wake of the Roe v. Wade controversy, my wife Janice Fiamengo published an article for PJ Media asserting that abortion-on-demand is by no means a question of male compulsion but involves the responsibility of the woman herself as a person who possesses individual agency, who can choose whether or not to abort her unborn. A woman is not the helpless victim of ostensive patriarchal domination but a free and responsible agent who can determine her own actions rather than malinger as a servile casualty of male oppression. To think otherwise is merely demeaning, a way of infantilizing and

There was a time when the idea of someone with a room temperature IQ running for president of the United States was laughable, the plot of some awful movie. Since Joe Biden, all bets are off. For Democrats, having an IQ larger than your waistline is an obstacle, making it difficult to advocate for policies that have failed everywhere they've been tried with a straight face. Luckily for them, there aren't many Democrats who have a double-digit IQ, so it's not much of an issue, and their Queen is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Fewer Americans than ever say that they believe that the Bible should be taken literally, while a record number of Americans now say they view the holy book as a compilation of "fables, legends, history and moral precepts recorded by man," according to a Gallup poll. One in five Americans surveyed said the Bible is the "actual word of God, to be taken literally," about half off from the high point in 1984. The survey also shows that as fewer Americans are ranking religion as "very important," the number of those who believe the Bible came directly from God decreases.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has warned power consumers in Texas to conserve energy on Monday afternoon and evening because there will not be enough wind power to operate the power grid reliably in peak demand. During a cold snap in the winter of 2021, however, wind turbines froze and many Texans found themselves without electricity. And that’s why this election is going to be so darn important.” (Tweet)
