House investigators want three firearm companies to testify at a July 20 hearing on gun violence in the wake of mass shootings in New York, Texas and Illinois. Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, New York Democrat and chair of the House Oversight Committee, said Thursday they will take a closer look at the marketing behind “AR-15-style” weapons that are usually tied to mass shootings. Ms. Maloney requested information and testimony from Daniel Defense, Smith & Wesson Brands, and Sturm, Ruger & Company. “Products sold by your company have been used for decades to carry out homicides and even mass murders, yet your company has continued to market assault weapons to civilians,”

Will they do the same to car makers? How about alcohol producers? And of course there are those cigarette makers. I'm not negating gun violence but if we start charging product makers with crimes committed by those who bought their produce, it will be never ending.

Also, disregarding the black gang members who commit the vast share of gun crimes (because that's not allowed to be acknowledged), given the type of shooter the show hearing is examining, they should seek testimony from key members of the marijuana industry, the psychiatric medications industry, the police and the FBI (who always have had the shooters on their radar, if not guidance, as with the Buffalo grocery store gunman), and psychiatrists; all of these have far more to do with dangerous people being allowed to seethe until they decide to commit their crimes.

Time would be better spent interviewing drug companies and video game companies on impacts of psychiatric drugs and realistic killing games on mass killings.

S&W, Ruger and Daniels should all say “nope, no records and no testimony.”

How about bringing in Hollywood movie producers to testify about on screen gun violence. Make them give accounts of in average how many different guns are used and how many oriole are killed in an average movie.

What does Maloney think the gun companies will bring to the hearings? Glossy ads promoting their weapons for use for mass shootings? Tips for killing the most people in the shortest time possible? Maybe bring along some school shooters and other mass shooters along as their company spokesmen for the hearings? The gun companies have done nothing illegal. As mentioned in other posts, if they hold gun companies responsible for their users actions, they will need to do the same for automobile, alcohol, knife, chemical, and any other industry whose products have ever been used to kill a lot of people at once.

Some one really needs to come prepared to push all the rat policies right back in the face of smug hypocrites like Maloney. A creep who latched on to her government office like a tick after her husband was murdered by a black criminal who ignored the many laws NY rat politicians like Maloney passed to zero effect. Rats coddle criminals, plea bargain gun crimes, and harass law abiding citizens. I would ask her why she hates responsible citizens. Why does she demand THEY be disarmed while she does nothing to go after inner city gangs and mental defectives? NY has the most restrictive guy laws in the US, many of them illegal, yet NY state is much more violent than VT, which has almost no restrictions. Read some John Lott studies, have some proven facts and data and rip this moron to shreds with her sanctimonious lies.

They should be talking to movie producers, TV producers, MSM, and video game producers.

Those very same weapons platforms have been used to STOP every mass shooting...Cops have decided after decades of study and $millions of dollars in testing that THESE very platforms are the very BEST thing to bring to the scene where citizens are in trouble, having them already there solves trouble quicker. No matter who brought them.
Mass shooter shows up with One...Cops show up with 20-100, is it more dangerous to have 20-100 there, Or just the one?
If it was "The Gun" that is the danger...it would be more dangerous after the Cops arrive.

Marketing? The only gun ads I ever see are in gun magazines. How about bringing in the drug company executives. One can't watch tv for 15 minutes without seeing at least three drug ads, and the drugs they're peddling kill a hell of a lot more people than guns.

A big lie fight up front: these weapons have not been used to carry out homicides and mass shootings for decades, which is why Slick Willie's "assault weapon" ban was allowed to sunset.
