Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta has advised California law enforcement agencies that the “good cause” requirement for issuing a concealed weapons permit is likely unconstitutional and should no longer be used.
The advice came in a legal alert on Friday to “all California district attorneys, police chiefs, sheriffs, county counsels and city attorneys” and follows a U.S. Supreme Court decision on Thursday overturning New York State’s “proper cause” requirement.
“It is the Attorney General’s view that the court’s decision renders California’s good
cause standard to secure a permit to carry a concealed weapon in most public places

The proliferation of firearm ownership among law-abiding Americans is the DIRECT RESULT of the ‘Progressive’ Left’s blatant refusal to enforce existing gun laws on their own voter base.

A bit of searching for news on this topic indicates that NY and NJ intend to try to create enough "guns prohibited zones" that while you may actually GET a permit, it will be essentially impossible to move around the city normally while armed due to their "mine field" of prohibited places. I suspect that they will want to make any incursion into one of their ubiquitous prohibited places a felony, too.
Clearly there will be a requirement for a bunch more lawsuits in the states where the last 1/4 of the US population is prohibited from exercising their 2nd Amendment rights.
For years, 3/4 of the US population has lived under either "shall issue" objective standards permitting systems or Constitutional Carry, which is anyone who can legally own a handgun can carry it. Fully half of all states now have Constitutional Carry as law.
Somehow, 75% of the population has been just fine with these laws. But the leaders of the 25% are getting freaked out and are desperately seeking some way to bypass our rights, even now.

“Good cause” is unconstitutional. It cannot have been too diffifult to show as I knew two women who carried in their handbags. Self-protection.

I think one of the greatest barriers that they will be throwing up will be prohibiting carrying of a weapon on any form of public transportation. In NYC area and many other urban areas, travel is extremely difficult by private car, and public transportation, like subways, is a necessary part of most people's day.
And....if you can't leave your gun in your car when your employer prohibits it at the workplace, because you take the subway or bus to work - you will, again, be blocked from exercising your right to be armed in public. And the news has shown that one of the most dangerous places is often public transportation areas themselves.
Many companies made it against company policy to have a firearm in your car if parked on their property, which often was the only place that it was possible to park your care when going to work. Eventually there were lawsuits that blocked these policies, saying that your car, even on their parking lot was an extension of your home, and protected from their intrusive policies. Many states explicitly say that you MAY have a firearm in your locked car, company policies to the contrary notwithstanding.
For those using public transportation, and especially going to work where the company prohibits firearms - perhaps this will create a business opportunity for 'public locker' type places near businesses in big cities so that you can deposit your firearm in a nearby locker while at work. Of course, if being on the public transportation is still illegal while armed, public lockers solves nothing.
In Kansas, people complained that they could not carry their guns into public buildings, and yet they were not protected from criminals being armed there. The state mandated that if a county or state building wanted to prohibit armed citizens it must have metal detectors, armed guards and lockers at all entrances to keep everyone from being armed. They gave a two year 'grace period' for cities and counties to implement these changes. All the public buildings in my county were placarded against entry while armed for the two year period, even though they had no intent of spending the money to provide armed guards, metal detectors and lockers. When the two years expired....the signs came down. Their ONLY intent was two years of delay to our rights.
Lots more work to be done in these hellish "only criminals may have a gun" zones. I can see that the anti-gun folks will be throwing every possible roadblock in the way that they think that they can get away with.
Lots more lawsuits will be needed, and coming.

Bonta is throwing in the towel already? Almost too good to be true. Currently in CA, ease of satisfying the good-cause requirement depends on your county of residence. The map sort of follows the electoral map after every election - if you live in the red, rural inland counties getting a permit entails little more than rubber-stamp approval. The blue areas in the LA Basin and around the Bay Area? Forget about it.

Re #5, it will be interesting to see if it is possible to obtain a CCW permit in LA or San Fran areas now.

I am not waiting for the totalitarian socialist ruling class to catch up to my right to preserve my life. I am not asking for their permission.

Gee, it's a shame they eliminated the "good cause" clause for receiving a CCW in California becuase the most commonly-invoked "good cause" was a $5000 check to the county sheriff's campaign fund. Go ahead, ask me how I know!

Agreed #’s 5 and 6 - it will be interesting to see if those big metro areas increase the number of permits issued. My son tried to get a CCW permit in Santa Clara County (where San Jose is.) It was a exercise in futility. Interesting that in the past Sen Dianne Feinstein could have a CCW permit while rape victims would be denied. The other issue though is in Cali, if you use your weapon in self defense you are more likely to be arrested with your gun confiscated than the perp who attacked you. Upside-down land.

Well I live in the East Bay, I'm tempted to see if I can get one, or at least see what other roadblocks or undue burdens they propose to in getting one. But I'm always leery about stuff like this. I'm even reluctant to sign petitions regarding gun laws, or any conservative issues for that matter here. I wouldn't put it past them to use it as a "list", for who to go after first. For those who think I'm paranoid, look at all early morning raids of the FBI on any and every one that threatens the Dems.

Many people do constitutional carry! Nobody knows…ever and they are able to protect their wives and children! FREEDOM! You are either free or you are a slave!

I am truly amazed that California hasn't required an additional lawsuit to force them to follow the Supreme Court's Bruen ruling. Any California folks desiring a concealed carry permit....might try applying now. Looks like you can actually get one. But, the proof will be in the getting. It will be interesting to see what ACTUALLY is done when people apply now.
