The Senate on Thursday night passed gun control legislation, clearing the way for final congressional approval of what will be the most significant firearms legislation in decades.
The 65-33 vote came after a month of negotiations that eventually found a compromise on one of the country's most contentious political issues.
Yet the nation's divisions were on clear display on a day when the Supreme Court expanded gun rights by ruling Americans have a constitutional right to carry handguns in public for self-defense.
The legislation provides about $15 billion in funding to help states implement red-flag laws to keep guns from high-risk owners and expand background checks.

Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Lindsey Graham, John Cornyn, Roy Blunt, Richard Burr, Shelley Moore Capito, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Joni Ernst, Lisa Murkowski, Rob Portman, Thom Tillis, Todd Young, and one more? Some of these pigs were previously endorsed by Donald Trump, who sometimes can't help himself, and likewise the voters who keep electing them.

Disgusting sickening but just what I expected. No surprise here. The gun-grabbing republcrats turned out gleefully to support the destruction of the 2nd Amendment. Those red flag rules mean anyone wearing a red MAGA hast is in the crosshairs.

Once the RINOs realized it was a big cash giveaway with no accountability or measures of success, they were all in.

This is a vote of weakness, not strength. The fools who crossed the aisle are not to be trusted. In the wake of the terrible tragedy in Uvalde, democrats pushed this bill, not because it would be effective in preventing further shootings but because of pure opportunism. This is their standard operating procedure. Never let a crisis go to waste to advance their progressive agenda. How could Republicans not see this coming?
I honestly do not know what gets in the heads of Republicans who would vote in defiance of their constituents. One thing is certain is that they are the cause of so many bad laws that chip away at our rights. It appears no one in the cesspool on the Potomac is serious minded. They are not deep thinkers who take the time to analyze the situation and all the ramifications of their vote. They have to understand democrats are not interested in making good and effective laws. They are only interested in pushing their agenda forward. These people are shallow fools given to knee jerk reactions when serious thought is needed especially in any matter that would upend our second amendment rights. Republicans get played every time by the democrats and the people suffer. One thing we have learned by these betrayals is that you cannot count on Republicans to hold the line against a party determined to fundamentally transform the country. Democrats should never be given any quarter and Republicans will, at the worst time possible, betray us. Clearly, republicans have no idea of their role as public servants or representatives of we the people. There is no worse betrayal than in this political atmosphere any Republican who will vote with democrats. Better that democrats be made to bear the mantle of their destructive policies alone than give them any support whatsoever. Giving aid and support to the enemy is foolish and more importantly dangerous.
Wouldn’t it be nice if these Republicans were confronted with their decision? They pay no price whatsoever for their treachery. I am sure they believe they know better than the rest of us and should never be questioned. It’s time they were put on the hot seat by someone who will ask the hard questions. They should have to answer to their constituents.

15 fake republican senators care very little for the voters... Senators have 6 year terms so that makes them very independent until time for re-election or fundraising. Republicans only turn into conservatives when it's time for re-election!!!!

Here in FL we have red flag legislation known as "Risk Protection Orders". Signed into law by Gov. Rick Scott in 2018 in the wake of the Stoneman High School shooting.
Scott was elected to the U.S. Senate later that same year.
Whatever the vagaries or inadequacies of this law might be, I believe that Florida gun owners (of whom I am one) are feeling pretty secure in their rights.
We knew the people in Washington would come up with something. No real surprise there, or betrayal in the commonly understood sense.
This measure - which encourages states to pass their own red flag laws - seems to me to be designed to collapse of its own weight. Consequently I don't believe that the Kurt Schlichter/Hair on Fire reactions to this are warranted.
