Authorities in California are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery at a Macy’s in Walnut Creek Saturday morning after three suspects stole high-end watches before fleeing the scene, officials said. The Walnut Creek Police Department said "three black male adult suspects" entered the store located in the Broadway Plaza shopping center at approximately 10:48 a.m., when they began "smashing jewelry display cases with hammers." The suspects, all wearing hoods and masks to obstruct identifying elements, stole the valuables and fled the scene. It seems to me that stores in areas prone to this type of attack, that is, areas where Urban Thug Culture has displaced traditional American culture, should change over to a business method where customers order ahead using a phone 'app', then have their items delivered, or brought out to the curb, or they order and pick their items up at a service window. Letting people come in off the street and wander the aisles, when all too often those people are Thugs, just costs too much money.

Michelle Farris never expected to become homeless, but here she was, sifting through garbage and towering piles of debris accumulated along a roadway on the outskirts of northeast Portland. Farris, 51, has spent much of her adult life in Oregon and has vivid memories of this area alongside the lumbering Columbia River when it was pristine, a place for quiet walks. The global monkeypox outbreak is 'likely' to get 10 times bigger, according to the scientists behind the models that plunged the UK into Covid lockdowns. London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine scientists, who estimated how monkeypox will continue to spread, warned it is 'highly likely' that another 10,000 cases of the tropical virus would be spotted worldwide. Their model, calculated in May when just 728 cases were confirmed or suspected globally, suggests the outbreak will largely affect the men who have sex with men community, while a surge in cases among other groups is 'unlikely'. Extreme heat early in the summer season is calling into question the strength of electricity and power grids across the country, as warnings about brownouts and requests to conserve power continue to rise. As temperatures increase, the risk of power outages grows along with them. Warmer weather means higher power usage as people turn to devices like air-conditioning units and fans to try to cool their homes and offices. A May report from the non-profit North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) predicted a "high risk of energy emergencies during peak summer conditions" in the Upper Midwest. Germany must limit its use of gas for electricity production and prioritize the filling of storage facilities to compensate for a drop in supply from Russia, Economy Minister Robert Habeck said on Sunday. The federal government could take action against U.S. airlines on behalf of customers, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Saturday. Many Americans have endured delays, cancelations, and other travel complications during the coronavirus pandemic, and in recent months, after many pandemic-related travel restrictions were lifted. Following Buttigieg’s own flight being canceled, forcing him to drive from Washington to New York, he said his department has authority to enforce action against airlines that do not sufficiently maintain consumer-protection standards, potentially requiring them to hire more staff. He certainly intends to run. It would be very disruptive to challenge that.” Clinton made her failed bid for President in 2016 and unsuccessfully sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008.
