Peter Arnett’s celebrated quote — “It became necessary to destroy the town to save it” — was a fabrication during the Vietnam War but has a macabre application to Ukraine. American fecklessness and Russian rapacity together will leave a grease spot where Ukraine used to be. It was all tragically, idiotically unnecessary. I argued in 2008 and on many subsequent occasions, including the February 2014 note in PJ Media reposted below. The obvious course of action in Ukraine was to permit its people to vote for a divorce, as the Czechs and Slovaks did. A little more complicated that the picture offered here. Ukraine was convinced to give up its nuclear weapons by dangling NATO membership before them.

Biden's Energy Inflation Is No Accident 6 replies

In a press conference last week following his meeting with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Japan, President Biden praised the escalating price of gasoline as a positive step toward realizing the Democratic Party’s dream of enacting the Green New Deal. “[When] it comes to the gas prices, we’re going through an incredible transition that is taking place that, God willing, when it is over, we will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels when this is over,” Biden said. Biden followed these comments by giving lip service to the millions of Americans forced to spend an increasing percentage of their disposable income on putting gasoline in their vehicles.

Jimmy Carter’s administration was dominated by the Iranian hostage crisis and, domestically, by what would be later termed, “The Great Malaise.” Americans faced long lines at the gas pumps with the energy crisis; our space station, Skylab, was about to crash into Earth; and Carter’s popularity was at 25%. President Carter huddled for 10 days at Camp David, meeting with a cross-section of America. In his famous speech, Carter said America was facing a “crisis of confidence.” People felt that he was managing, not leading the government and that the government was largely ineffective. When you look at the Biden administration, the parallels are eerily similar.

What do people who don’t believe in evil do? They blame inanimate objects. Guns. 19 years ago, a middle-aged unemployed taxi driver carrying two milk cartons full of gasoline walked onto a South Korean subway and started a fire that killed 192 people. That was not a milk carton problem. Nor was it a gasoline problem. 6 years ago, a Muslim terrorist drove a truck into a Bastille Day event in Nice, France killing 86 and wounding over 400 other people. Body parts were being pried out of his wheel wells. That was not a truck problem. Across the long stretch of human history, millions of people were killed long before the invention of firearms,

Old Joe Biden has been pretending to be president of the United States for a year and a half now. While it has never been entirely certain who exactly is in charge (Barack Obama and White House chief of staff Ron Klain are two of the candidates most commonly bruited about), Old Joe himself has made it clear many times that it he isn’t, saying on numerous occasions that he is going to “get in trouble” with unnamed people if he departs from the instructions they have given him. That’s why it was all the more surprising on Tuesday when NBC News revealed that Biden is angry about

"Know, O prince, that between the years after the USSR fell, and the years of the rise of Chaos, there was a global world undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars – Washington, Moscow, Beijing, London and Brussels – connected by a spider-web of container ships, floating cruise palaces, nonstop air transportation, fiber optic cables. If someone wanted to write a parody of climate activist lunacy, he or she could do worse than construct a scenario in which a crazed defender of the planet earth disguised himself as an old lady in a wheelchair, complete with wig and lipstick, and then entered the Louvre in Paris, where, in front of shocked crowds, he jumped up and tried to smash the bulletproof glass protecting Leonardo da Vinci’s renowned Mona Lisa, finally settling for smearing the glass with cake. Old Joe Biden took his president act to Annapolis Friday, giving a bizarre teleprompter reading to the U.S. Naval Academy class of 2022 that demonstrated before the watching world yet again that this is not a man who is fit to perform the job he is supposed to be doing. From the creepy whispering and outright lies to the unaccountable shouting and mangled verbiage, the Navy grads were treated to a tour de force Biden performance and one that once again raised the question of why anyone ever thought it would be a good idea to install this man in the Oval Office. It’s impossible to say that I’m shocked by the latest bombshell courtesy of the American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ). According to a memo obtained by ACLJ via a FOIA lawsuit, several Obama administration officials held secret meetings with Iran during Trump’s presidency. [Tweet] Former Obama Secretary of State John Kerry’s efforts to undermine Trump by negotiating with Iran as Trump was working towards pulling out of the nuclear deal have been known for years. But the memo obtained by the ALCJ is from October 2018, titled “Notes From ‘Iran and the US: An Off-the-Record Conversation with Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif.” has never been seen before now,

I’ve heard it said somewhere that environmentalists are like watermelons: green on the outside but red on the inside. Many people in the environmental movement use the “climate change” narrative to push for outright communism or socialism. Others profit off communist investments to fund their climate initiatives as well as their wallets. Al Gore is one of those making money off of China to push a green agenda. According to a report from the Washington Free Beacon, Gore’s $36 billion investment fund, which touts its goal to “seek transformational change needed in climate and social action” in the world, has significant investments in China. “Generation Investment Management, which Gore formed in 2004,

A military strike that utilized quadcopter drones launched from inside Iran hit the top-secret Iranian military base at Parchin. It’s believed the strike targeted Iran’s drone research and development complex and not its missile or nuclear research facilities. No nation has claimed responsibility for the attack, but both Iran and the U.S. say that it fits the pattern of past attacks by Israel. The attack follows an assassination of a colonel in the Revolutionary Guards last week. Analysts believe the Israelis intended it as a warning to Iran to stop targeting Israeli citizens abroad. Parchin had previously been attacked in 2014 and 2007. Those were explosions and fires believed to have

As we reported earlier, Michael Sussmann was found not guilty of lying to the FBI, despite the evidence that he was working for the Clinton campaign and that he told FBI General Counsel James Baker that he was not working for any client. That raised questions as to how, given the evidence, you get a not guilty verdict in this case? Now, part of the issue may have been judicial rulings that hindered Special Counsel John Durham’s case to some degree, as I noted. The other part may have been you likely started out with an unfavorable jury, to begin with, in D.C., but then, in this case, you also seemed

A high school in a Chicago is implementing a race-based grading system “to adjust classroom grading scales to account for skin color or ethnicity of its students.” The move is necessary, advocates say, because “traditional grading practices perpetuate inequities,” a slide used in a presentation said. Students, depending on their race, will not be held accountable for missing class, misbehaving in school, or for failing to turn in assignments. (snip) “Teachers may unintentionally let non-academic factors—like student behavior or whether a student showed up to virtual class—interfere with their final evaluation of students,” Sullivan said.

Washington—A federal jury on Tuesday found former Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann not guilty of lying to the FBI — finding special counsel John Durham did not prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt. The verdict by a jury in heavily Democratic-leaning DC, came midway through the second day of deliberations following a two-week trial on a single count of making false statements to a federal agent. Durham’s prosecution team unsuccessfully sought to prove that Sussmann deliberately lied to then-FBI general counsel James Baker by claiming not to be acting on behalf of the Clinton campaign and an internet executive when the two met in 2016.

George Will’s recent column reviewing the first 500 days of the Biden presidency includes praise for the president’s “deft diplomacy” and “stunning achievement” in the administration’s response to Ukraine. According to Will, Biden’s diplomacy is substantially responsible for nudging Germany to play a larger geopolitical role and persuading Finland to join NATO, thus extending the alliance’s reach to more than 800 miles of Russia’s border. Biden, he writes, has revised the concept of the West, but Will writes that Biden’s achievement will not earn him political dividends because “what Americans usually want in foreign policy is as little as possible.”

Supreme Court law clerks are being asked to turn over their personal cell phone records and sign affidavits as the search ramps up for the person who leaked the draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade.Language of the affidavits and what the scope of the cell phone search will be are not yet clear, sources familiar with the efforts told CNN – but the potential of handing over their personal devices have clerks exploring their options, including hiring outside counsel. Considering the crack down on law clerks, it's likely the court has not yet been successful in determining the source of the breach.

Those flying throughout the United States may soon have to put their masks back on, as the Department of Justice has filed an appeal of an April decision that ended the unpopular mask mandate on planes and public transit. The Centers for Disease Control had first implemented the mandate in February 2021 amid rising COVID cases, but as the number of cases started to drastically decline the mandate became unpopular among both passengers and crew members. In fact, during a Senate hearing about the financial support airlines received in 2020 and 2021, American Airlines CEO Doug Parker and Southwest CEO Gary Kelly spoke out against the mandate.

In a church preparing to split over LGBTQ issues, the drag queen pastor, who embraces queer theology while barely attempting to plaster on the basic tenets of Christian theology, has become a lightning rod. Yellowstone National Park, Wyo. — A bison gored a 25-year-old woman in Yellowstone National Park. The bison was walking near a boardwalk at Black Sand Basin, just north of Old Faithful, when the woman approached it on Monday, according to a park statement. She got within 10 feet before the animal gored her and tossed her 10 feet in the air. The woman, from Grove City, Ohio, sustained a puncture wound and other injuries. Park emergency medical providers responded and transported her via ambulance to a hospital in Idaho. Park officials say it's the first reported bison goring this year.

Former Hillary Clinton campaign attorney Michael Sussmann has been found not guilty of lying to the FBI in the first trial of Special Counsel John Durham's investigation into what sparked the investigation of Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. It's one of just two indictments in Durham's three-year inquiry into the origins of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe, spurred by allegations that Trump's 2016 campaign got help from Russia. After just six hours of deliberation, a jury rejected Durham's claim that Sussmann lied to federal agents when sending them dirt on Trump's alleged links to Moscow.
