First of all, via InstaPundit, the tweet of the day: [Tweet] Predictably, the mass shooting in Buffalo has precipitated another round of gun control hysteria. What gun control? Who cares? The specifics are unimportant. You likely have read in the press that the United States has an unparalleled number of mass shootings due to our “lax” gun control laws. Such assertions are rarely challenged, but in fact they are untrue. I haven’t seen more recent numbers, but I am sure little has changed since this 2019 post. And keep in mind we only hear about certain shootings. Good shooting, when someone in the crowd has a gun to stop the shooter, or when someone protected his home or family - we don't hear about those. We never hear about the slaughter in Chicago, either. The media selectively ratchets up the 'gun' part for those instances they can help the gun control people.

The security guard in Buffalo would have probably killed the insane lunatic if it weren't for the mass killer's body armor. And spared some lives. Security are taught to shoot the chest. Forget it. Shoot their love life. Everyone on either side of politics wants to get rid of nuts with guns. The Left wants to get rid of guns. The Right wants to get rid of nuts. Neither are working. If you want to know why people want to be armed look at the Ukraine. And street crime in the US. I have no answers.

Re #2: Very light, flexible body armor that will stop up to a 240 grain .44 Magnum bullet at 1,450 fps is commercially widely available. Police have worn body armor or bullet proof vests for years, and for several hundred dollars (or more) civilians can buy either backpack panels or front and back body protection from most pistol rounds. Naturally, career criminals have also adopted body armor. Last year a group of diners at a D.C. restaurant were accosted by some BLM mau-mauers, one of whom was open carrying a pistol on his hip in an OWB holster and was wearing front and back bullet protection. When my (late) closest friend in this entire world was kidnapped by armed two drug dealers--black gang members--out of his bed one Monday morning and brought 21 miles north to me so I could ransom him out of captivity, his kidnappers were both armed and both wearing bullet proof vests. I, too, was armed (legally, with permit) but wanted to get my friend free, so I paid. If I had determined that my friend and I were going to be ambushed and killed--I did NOT determine that--I would have aimed first for their heads. Two difficult shots under the best of circumstances. Then their groins. The vests don't cover the old family jewels, and a proper shot to the privates will end the gunfight in the most delightful way (Mary Poppins reference). The second thing I learned was that if you're dealing with a career violent criminal who wears body armor as protection from cops and civilian defenders--more and more criminals do this today--hollow point bullets from your carry pistol, no matter how good the brand, won't penetrate 3A armor. I went with very lightweight, solid copper fluted bullets with a tip like a Phillip's head screwdriver that travel very fast, up to 2100 fps in .357 Sig, up to 1850 fps in 9mm +P. Could ruin a criminal's day for real.

Mr Hindraker is right on point with this one. Yes, folks who want to shoot people carefully choose places where guns are prohibited, so they can be the only person with a gun. They hate the "two way range" part which happens in places where we can be legally armed. LOVE the starting tweets --- "As a German, I don't understand what guns have to do with freedom", and the retort was "As a Jew, I do." is perfect. Anyone who can't understand what guns have to do with freedom is exceptionally stupid, or a liar.

It would be really good if Germans refrain from commenting on guns OR freedom. They dont have a very good track record when it comes to those two subjects.

In the kinky but wonderful 1971 black comedy Harold and Maude Horold's Uncle Victor, trying to get Harold interested in military service, says, "Now, why in hell did we give up on the Germans? Since the damn politicians chalked them up on our side, the wars ever since have been a national disgrace. Hell, look at history - the two best wars we ever fought were against the Jerries. I say get the Krauts on the other side where they belong. Let's have an enemy worth killing and a war this country can support." 'For God's sake': Joe Biden and the Texas tragedy 5 replies

For God's sake, Mister President, don't turn this tragedy into cheap political capital. I just watched President Joe Biden take a stab at playing the role of America's "mourner in chief," a role his Democratic predecessor, Bill Clinton, managed quite well. That may, in fact, have been the only thing Clinton did that actually helped the country. For all his many failings, Clinton knew the importance of helping people cope with tragedy. Unfortunately, Joe Biden didn't crib this page from Bill Clinton's playbook. He made it partisan fairly quickly, blaming the tragedy on the "gun lobby" and "gun manufacturers." Yet he started out well.

Mindless Murders Continue: After consecutive mass shootings occurring over a few days, Americans are numb from the suffering of enduring the slaughter of the innocent. Tears, hand-wringing, accusations and demands for disarming all Americans follow, like rain tracks clouds. But is broad disarmament the only answer to the slaughter of the innocents? No, and here’s why. First, America’s Birth was premised on the right to bear arms, entirely apropos for wilderness colonies where wolves and bears were plentiful, and much fare was taken in wild environs. Also, with often tenuous relations with natives, there was a need to always be ready to repulse attacks. Second, Colonial Arms keeping of arms handy

Gas prices are high everywhere. They’ve risen so much that several states have suspended their gas tax, while others are considering doing so. And then there’s Illinois. The Democrat-dominated legislature in Illinois is so magnanimous that they’re not suspending their gas tax, but they’re delaying increasing it until the end of the year. I know — how thoughtful of them. “As part of this year’s budget, Democrats delayed for six months the 2.2-cent-a-gallon gasoline tax increase that was set to take effect in July,” explains the Wall Street Journal editorial board. In 2019 Democrats doubled the gas tax to 38 cents a gallon and indexed it to inflation.”

President Joe Biden has been lecturing white Americans about hate again. On May 15, the day after an 18-year-old white supremacist massacred ten black shoppers in a Buffalo supermarket, Biden called on Americans to “address the hate that remains a stain” on the country’s soul. Those stained by hate were not named by race, but the reference was clear. Two days later, Biden gave a longer speech in Buffalo about the attack. In Biden’s telling, white Americans are at best indifferent to the racist slaughter of their fellow black citizens. “We need to say as clearly and forcefully as we can that the ideology of white supremacy

Apparently, being illegally present in the U.S. is now a "right" rather than a criminal act, and not even a "privilege" when done legally. For some 60,000 would-be illegal border-crossers amassed at the U.S. border, it's now a "right." This is why we're seeing would-be illegal border-crossers now holding protests in cities such as Tijuana as a judge's order on Title 42 forces the Border Patrol to turn back tens of thousands of unvetted entries into the States. My buddy considers himself a “non-Trumping, Democrat-hating conservative.” I guess his “non-Trumping” bias trumped (heh-heh) his hatred of Democrats. He claimed he had “no idea things would get this bad under Biden.” My friend also doesn’t like the far-left judge in the Bronx who has a habit of releasing violent criminals from jail. Our suspicion was finally confirmed in this scandalous game of Clue that cost the American taxpayers $40 million, wasted the time of 40 FBI agents, dragged Americans before federal agents to explain themselves, and involved untold hours of spying on U.S. citizens. Donald J. Trump was the best POTUS in my very long lifetime. His policies were effective, making America prosperous, energy independent, and lowering minority unemployment to record low levels. Everything he did, with the possible exception of the COVID lockdown, was quintessentially Trump; competent, encouraging, and salutary for America and her people. We were blessed to have him in the White House. Although many Americans cringed, we nonetheless put up with Trump’s coarseness and his inflated ego because he gave America back to the people.
