As the Red Army closed in on der Führerbunker, Adolf Hitler tried to ward off the inevitable by giving orders to divisions and regiments that had long since disappeared into the meatgrinder of the Eastern Front. In the dark days of the Vietnam War, President Lyndon Johnson whiled away the dwindling days of his failed presidency by personally selecting the targets to be bombed in North Vietnam. Jimmy Carter was involved in the tactical details for the abortive hostage rescue mission into Iran known as Operation Eagle Claw, or Desert One. Now we’re hearing of another failed political leader donning the hat of a tactician and running his own war;

I seem to recall Adolf Somebody Or Other behaving in much the same fashion. Actually I read about it.

Pride cometh before the fall. Unfortunately he is facing someone far more stupid.

Hitler did this, too. He was a far, far worse general than his generals, it turned out.
He helped the Allies to defeat the Germans that much faster and cost a lot more German soldiers their lives.

Well, which is it? Is he sick and needing surgery or is he running a war? I don't think anyone knows and everything we read is a mere guess.

I thought that Trump was very misguided, foolish even, in claiming that he knew more than his generals. Subsequent events and what we now know about that collection of chair warmers have proven him for the most part right. Again.

So, what is Putie going to do when his army finally thumbs its nose at him and a mass mutiny ensues. Even his murderous Gen. Dvornikov must realize that this Ukraine genocide is leading the russkies down a rabbit hole from which it will not recover for a long long time.

In 1942 Hitler fired his field marshal and assumed command of the Eastern Front after the Germans failed to capture Moscow. It was the beginning of the end of the Third Reich. Now Putin is following the same path. Who said history never repeats?

He may order devastating attacks that his line generals refused to execute. Will have to see what happens. Hopefully he won’t resort to using the N word on US targets.

Lyndon Johnson did the same thing during Viet Nam. I don't know if the war was winnable but his constant meddling for political gain did not help.

If Abe Lincoln hadn't meddled into military affairs I'd be living in The Confederate States of America.

Shades of Jefferson Davis. While he was trained in the military he did the South no favors trying to direct the war from Rihmond Virginia

The Allies were actively attempting to assassinate Hitler until they figured out that he was the main reason Germany kept fouling up their war strategy. They backed off the plan and the rest is history. I would say we are in luck with Vlad taking control, but what if Hitler had had 6,000 nuclear weapons?

Shocking to see him holding the red candle in the Russian Orthodox Easter service. That a monster should be allowed on hallowed ground. His fate awaits him. - P.S. He's aping Hitler.

Actually, #10, Lincoln did no directing of battles. He replaced the worthless McClellan with a retired general who was working as a storekeeper, a man named Grant. Grant drank too much, and the "better classes" complained. Lincoln's comment on Grant's drinking was, "Find out what brand he drinks and get a case for each of my generals.".
When the complaits about Grant's drinking grew louder, Lincoln said, "I can't spare him, he fights."
But Lincoln never replaced generals to direct battles himself. he did arrest many treasonous reporters, though.
