A Colorado school district has infuriated parents after announcing plans to ax valedictorian prizes in what they have branded the latest 'equity'-obsessed focus on mediocrity over excellence. 'The practices of class rank and valedictorian status are outdated and inconsistent with what we know and believe of our students,' Cherry Creek School District staffers said in a statement to families last Monday declaring the change.'We believe all students can learn at high levels, and learning is not a competition,' the letter, first reported by KDVR, asserted.

Learning isn't a competition....so why bother assigning grades? How do you gauge a student's aptitude without a ranking system?
It seems like there is a competition in the Cherry Creek School System for virtue-signaling. Forget intelligence-how woke are you, what victim/group do you belong to, oh and whites need not apply.

To be consistent, I assume they will be banning all competitive sports, music competitions, debate, etc.

They may not think so, but life sure is. Like the woman said, you can ignore reality but you can't ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.

Joe Biden is a good example of someone at the bottom of his class who became the leader of the "free" world and totally destroyed it.

Then what is it? A chance to indoctrinate and keep "the people" as dumb as necessary to control us?

It is competition. And it is because those kids in the top 10% learn to be competitive for something they want in their teens, they tend to go on to be very successful in life. They are actually prepared for the competition that is the "real world" when they are adults!!!
So many of the slacker kids in high school, that just go through the motions, are shocked when they get to college and careers, because they are so unprepared for the competition that they encounter. No "participation trophies" in the real world!!!

Competition is the method of developing and identifying those qualified for leadership. Better to be led by the best than the fools we have now.

It's the law of the lowest common denominator. In the interest of equality, make everyone dumb as a door nail. Not everyone can be smart, so everyone must be dumb. Intelligence bad! Tell all those little kids that take pride in excelling at school that they are selfish.

this is coming from someone who always believed that little falsehood: education IS all about competition and as someone who looked at education as not really necessary, I learned too late the truth of the matter and finally grew up to realize that education is the only thing we have that was gained by people who worked very hard to learn what they gave to me, and gave it freely, now I try to emulate that characteristic

Participation trophy for everyone! We can't all be Einstein, or da Vinci or Neil Armstrong. But who cares about striving to be the best you can be? You should win awards simply because you take up space. Grandma thinks you are special and the sun revolves around your asshat and I guess we all need to feel the same about you. I mean we don't want hurtie bad feelings, do we? s/o
We are turning into a nation that celebrates mediocrity.

I remember about 10 years ago they started giving Valedictorian status to 5, 10, sometimes 25 students. Since those at the bottom still felt 'underserved', they now trash the whole concept. Stupid.

Time to do away with elections - there is always a winner and loser unless a lesser 'candidate' cheats so that they can win.

"We believe all students can learn at high levels…" Anyone who believes that has obviously never seriously tried teaching a demanding subject to a diverse class!

Many students that a valedictorian or have a very high ranking in their scholastic achievements get scholarships to go on to college. I don't know how many NEED this, but it is there for those that work at it. Why take that away??? Probably because their dimwitted, overly selfish kids couldn't get these achievements??

It's a socialist mindset: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." Ability or excellence is not part of the socialist equation.

FTA: "We believe all students can learn at high levels, and learning is not a competition,'" Only those who cannot compete decry competition! Witness the low-life who uttered the captioned evidence.

Honestly, what do grades ultimately matter? Was your life's trajectory determined by your high school GPA? How about all those proud "C" students who stumbled into success? I'm sure everyone here was a 3.9 or better...am I right? 3.8?
