Houston’s main transportation authority has been slammed on social media for its “performative” tribute to Rosa Parks. Texas’ Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County—better known as METRO—revealed last week that they were placing a yellow seat at the front of each of their public buses to mark what would have been Parks’ 109th birthday. The statement was accompanied by a photograph of one of the seats, inscribed with the words “Dedicate to the Memory of Rosa Parks.” METRO stated that the seats would be a permanent addition on their buses as a way to honor Parks’ “act of courage.” Parks become a leading figure in the Civil Rights

Those would have been Claudette Colvin seats, but the communists who handled this PR event decided that a 15-year-old unwed pregnant girl was bad optics, and sent Rosa Parks out to repeat the stunt for the cameras.

Whenever I hear the name Rosa Parks, the first thing I always think of is that incident late in her life where a young thug mugged her. Da Homie didn't give a rip about her place in history, he just wanted her purse. But that's gratitude for you in Da Hood.

I think its a valid tribute. Those that are complaining want the METRO to make donations to various causes, I assume with tax payer money. How about those that are whining make the donations instead of stealing from the tax payers?

These are types of pointless gestures that keep blacks tethered to the Democrat Party. I’m betting that the complainers are white liberals.

Providing reminders of a courageous woman in very practical spaces is not to be sniffed at. Yellow seats with the name of Rosa Parks on them serve as a reminder that all people, regardless of color or race and other distinctions, are children of God whom God loves. And all people deserve the respect due to them because they are made in the divine image and likeness.
Now . . . can the bus company do other things to honor courageous people? Possibly. But, as others have said, it does not sound like it is a private company. I assume that taxpayers fund it. So there may be limits on the company's ability to donate to charity or engage in political action.
Another thing: Seats that honor Rosa Parks do not preclude other actions. Sometimes we need to appreciate what folks are trying to do even if they appear ham-handed.

Did Rosa Parks ever set foot in Houston, let alone ride a bus there? That doesn't matter because our nation's secular saints, MLK and Rosa Parks, have streets named after them in countless US towns from coast to coast, while at a time we're reexamining the merits of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson because they once owned slaves.

At least they haven't made white people sit in the back of the bus ... yet.

How sweet, a front seat. What a tribute, doesn’t say much except “well, we gave her a seat.” Meh.

Why in the hell don't we just let this go -- It doesn't need to become an issue ! I've wasted my time reading the article and wasted my time responding to it ... mind your own business !

During Rosa Parks' final years, she was at the mercy of competing interests. It became quite ugly.
And in a discussion with my students concerning her vulnerability, I commented that it wouldn't surprise me if she received the Sir Jeremy Bentham treatment. Or Lenin.
I guess such a remark, today, would get me fired.

Do people really need token reminders that we all deserve respect and be treated with dignity? This seems more a reminder for ones with the permanent victim mindset.

I live in Houston, and yes, METRO is a government entity, so that cannot make charitable contributions with taxpayer's money. Secondly, they may as well put a commemorative seat for everyone in the Civil Rights movement on all of their bases because there sure aren't any passengers riding on them.

Whoever authorized this should be fired. They are practicing politics and not performing any job.

A seat reserved for only one race, and no others are allowed to sit there is the Opposite of what Parks accomplished. Any non-black rider in that seat will be putting their lives at risk. There will be government sanctioned racial discrimination and blood. Brilliant move, morons.
