Georgia leaders: Cityhood push dead for

ATLANTA — Top Georgia lawmakers have signaled that proposals to allow the wealthy, predominately white Buckhead neighborhood to secede from Atlanta are dead, at least for this year. (Snip) Business leaders have been working to tamp down the possibility that Georgia’s largest city would fracture, an event likely to carry ugly racial overtones and make bondholders nervous about the ability of Georgia cities to repay their debts. Ralston’s comments follow interviews given Thursday by Republican Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan making clear his opposition to the affluent neighborhood north of downtown leaving the city. Duncan had already kneecapped the chances of

It boils down to money. Without Buckhead, Atlanta is a hot-climate Detroit.

"An event likely to carry ugly racial overtones"! Does this mean the white people don't want black people committing all the crimes in their neighborhood?

People of Buckhead. It's obvious that the fix is in and you are not going to be allowed to save yourselves. Sell for whatever you can recover and move out. Leave it to the animals. You can't win. You voted democrat and your lives are over. You have to save yourselves, but you can't hurt anybody, so moving is the only answer.

I guess those other neighborhoods contribute near zero tax revenue, nearly zero purchasing power. We’re just domestic terrorists when we’re not needed for revenue.

Haven't outlying areas of Atlanta already cut ties and self-incorporated? I seem to recall Obama was pretty angry about that. The wealthier white suburbs got tired of footing the bill for the idiotic politicians and policies the more numerous "urban" voters kept putting in office. Their response to the corruption and mismanagement was "We do not need you."

I remember the head of the separatists in an interview a while back. One of the driving reasons was financial non-accountability: Atlanta had collected $100 million in taxes the previous year than the city's budget and no one could tell the Buckhead community leaders where it went.

I work in Atlanta and know this area well. Yes, all the money in Atlanta proper is here. It's a nice area in a part of the city. Lenox mall however has become a war zone. What use to be a high end mall is now a disaster, I understand Bulkhead's move to escape. The city can't exist without it.(unless they clean up crime).

MUNICH — In an appeal that was at times bitterly critical of the West, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine urged allies on Saturday to begin sanctioning Russia now rather than wait for an invasion, and he took aim at repeated American declarations that an attack would happen within days. “What are you waiting for?’’ Mr. Zelensky asked a large audience at the annual meeting of the Munich Security Conference, which he attended despite warnings that his absence from Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, could give Russia an opportunity to strike. “We don’t need your sanctions after” the economy collapses and “parts

MINNEAPOLIS — The judge who sentenced white former Officer Kim Potter on Friday to two years in prison for killing Black motorist Daunte Wright cited the difficult job that police face — and Potter’s remorse — as justification for giving her a light sentence.
