Set your DVR for a real treat being shown on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) at 8:45 AM Eastern Standard Time. The 1949 RKO film The Woman in Pier 13 (originally titled I Married a Communist) dates from the period derisively called “The Red Scare” (snip) The film – even though derided as propaganda by anti-anti-communists – is quite good. The cast is terrific, with Robert Ryan, the star, portraying a reformed ex-communist now rising in a shipping company, blackmailed by the Party into cooperating with an effort to sabotage to docks in San Francisco with strikes.

Two years ago, Commie Comcast took TCM out of our upper tier line up and put it in an upper tier sports package full of a bunch of bball and soccer channels. Unle$$ you want to cough up the extra buck$ for a lot if channels you'll never watch, no TCM for YOU!

"The Lives of Others" - which truthfully portrays life in communist East Berlin - is also a fine movie. Heard about it from Rush.

Another dark political film is Keeper Of The Flame 1942, Kathrine Hepburn & Spencer Tracy. Not aired often but TCM lets it out every few years to show how legacies are crafted by those existing to control their fascist narrative. Today's rabid fixers would mold Hitler into a sympathetic, vegan victim of religious persecution.

FTA: " . . . during the period when communist influence in the entertainment and media industry was being identified. 'McCarthyism' became and remains a term for a search for a non-existent threats." This is demonstrably false! Senator McCarthy had nothing to do with investigating the entertainment industry. His subcommittee only investigated government employees. The Roosevelt and Truman administrations were crawling with communist traitors. We now know who they were and the evil that they did - - but unfortunately Senator McCarthy never really uncovered those rats. I love the classic movies on TCM - - but their on-air hosts are mostly a bunch of red diaper baby commies.

It's a rare , very rare thing for TCM. They have gone " woke ". They put together a short film of about classic movies that are so very not PC and how we should watch them. . Of " Gone With The Wind " is front and center. That one is a toughie for them because although slavery is a big part of the movie , a black woman, Hattie McDaniel won a best supporting Oscar for her acting. And it being black history month, the agenda in full up with movies and documentaries . By the way , I love and enjoy their noir movies. No politics, just good movies full of rotten people up to no good.

Another great film in the same genre is 'Pickup On South Street', with Richard Widmark. A pickpocket unwittingly lifts a message destined for enemy agents and becomes a target for a Communist spy ring. Thelma Ritter plays possibly the best role of her career.

Our library has some great movies as well. And it is free! I shall see if I can rent "Pickup on South Street". Back in the day, I think I had a crush on Richard Widmark.

I do try not to get angry when government actors confirm my belief that they are lowly human beings not worthy of respect. You couldn’t miss the headlines: The annual percentage increase in inflation clocked in at 7.5%, making it the worst increase in 40 years. (snip) real inflation is probably even worse than the accelerated rate suggests. That’s because, in 1990, the government changed how it calculated inflation (something it also did in 1980). John Williams’s Shadow Government Statistics calculates inflation as it would have been calculated before 1980 and before 1990. According to his numbers, inflation would have been over 15% using pre-1980 metrics and over 10% using pre-1990 metrics. You don’t need the numbers, though, to tell you what you already know.

If you think the highest overall inflation rate in 40 years of 7% is bad, get ready for a real shock coming to a pump near you. Oil prices are surging so much that, ironically, even the "Green New Deal" president is begging global and domestic producers alike to ramp up production and pump, pump, pump! And despite his releasing millions of barrels of crude from the strategic oil reserve and pleading with oil-rich nations to increase their output, prices continue to climb. In early December, oil was trading at $65 per barrel. Today, it's over $90

America may be headed for a new type of energy crisis. While fracking technology still gives us relative energy independence, there is a distinct possibility that an electricity energy crisis awaits us. What if the demand for electricity significantly exceeds the supply over the next decade? We’d have soaring prices and rolling brownouts. That crisis could easily be triggered by the electric vehicles (EVs) Biden’s administration is pushing. By his Executive Order and an associated Action Plan, Biden’s administration calls for 50% of all new vehicles sold in America by 2030 to be EVs.
