Memphis, Tenn.—Tennessee lawmakers are considering a bill to ban the teaching of LGBTQ issues in Tennessee’s public schools. It’s the latest in a wave of legislation that targets the LGBTQ community in the Mid-South.(Snip)The bill, sponsored by State Rep. Bruce Griffey, would ban textbooks and other instructional materials in public schools that “promote, normalize, support or address LGBT issues or lifestyle.” Griffey first introduced the bill last year and says schools have no business teaching students about LGBTQ issues, which he says could offend “a significant portion of students, parents and Tennessee residents with Christian values.” “The State of Tennessee is not allowed to teach

Comments:

A valid and novel perspective: if public schools are prohibited from teaching the life-affirming Christian values that are shared by a large swath of the populace, then why should they be allowed to promote the toxic values of the small but obnoxiously vocal LGBTQ+ community?

No, Brandon, it does NOT "target the LGBTQ "community", whatever that is. It targets the values that schools can teach to children. And it does not "limit the rights of LGBTQ Americans."

I agree that Children do not need to be taught that "Sally has two Mommys" or something like it! Teach them what they need to learn to succeed a Adults. When I went to school, in High School we "heard" about "Queer" people (as they were called back then), We knew they were out there, but that was it. We didn't need to know anything more about their habits and such. Now they have their own little Enclaves, their own Bars and they are Loud an Proud. I think that is fine, but keep them from indoctrinating School Age Children. They will get that when they go to College!

So what's the problem. Do what's been done for hundreds of years, reading, writing arithmetic and American history. It's about time somebody starts to address this issue. Quit the indoctrination and get back to the basics.

Government schools have no business dealing with matters of human sexuality other than the general science of mammalian reproduction, covered in HS biology class. Anything other than that should get the teacher fired and the school board put on notice that they are about to get replaced. .

The Covid-19 pandemic has seen two pernicious trends emerge as to how Americans are getting around their country: public transit is struggling with a reduced number of paying customers, while there has been a sharp increase in car crash deaths. The shuttering of businesses, the rise of working from home and a fear of contracting the coronavirus saw public transport use plummet across the US–commuter rail alone reported a 79% decline in ridership in the year to September 2020. Despite a slight resurgence in 2021, trips taken on all modes of public transit are still around half of what they were before the pandemic, federal government figures show.

The strain damages the immune system and weakens a person's ability to fight everyday infections and disease faster than previous versions of the virus. It means those who catch this strain could develop AIDS more quickly.
