NEW YORK -- The city is taking measures to protect dogs at a Brooklyn park after residents said they suspect rats are spreading a disease there that killed several dogs. City Councilmember Lincoln Restler sounded the alarm this week after his office received reports that multiple dogs had died after visiting the McCarren Park Dog Run in Williamsburg. The dogs had symptoms associated with leptospirosis, a bacterial disease spread through the urine of infected animals like rats. Restler said dogs can catch leptospirosis if they drink from puddles rats urinated in. Restler told the Daily News on Thursday that he was

Is there a vaccine for that once it spreads to humans? Maybe I should delete this, don’t want to give anyone ideas.

The article affirms that there is a vaccine that works for both humans and for canines. Rats are notorious for spreading disease because, unlike most mammals that store urine in their bladders for periodic release, rats dribble urine constantly, wherever they go.

There's no money for basic services, yet plenty of it for government people to lavish on themselves and the fun kind of spending that gets them publicity. Noo Yawkers are OK with this, seeing how they vote for it again and again.

We live in the country with lots of corn bins and waterways. The only rats I’ve seen were 2 frozen solid in our yard several winters back. Not eaten or mauled, it was a little weird. Anyway, all our dogs are vaccinated (the real kind) against lepto. I think it’s a 3 year booster.

"Lepto"!! One of my dachshunds went into anaphylactic shock after getting the" Lepto" shot accidentally. Dachshunds should not get the "Lepto" shot because they are especially sensitive to it. For the rest of my dachshund's life, he got blood titers...no more shots of any kind. We have several dachshunds and you couldn't pay me to take them to a dog park....not even a nice one. Fortunately, we do not live in rat infested NYC. Rats spreading Lepto....one more commie nightmare to contend with.

I used to run around the track at McCarren Park back in the 60s and 70s. No dog park there back then. One early morning I'm hitting wedge shots into the middle to the track. I hit one shot and then look downfield where a big black dog has wandered into my landing area. As luck would have it my ball lands right on his ass some 80 yards away. The dog yelps, looks arounds and, seeing nothing near him, runs away as if chased by the devil.

President Biden was caught on a hot mic Monday appearing to call Fox News reporter Peter Doocy a "stupid son of a b****" in response to a question asked at the start of a White House event on lowering the prices on consumer goods. As the meeting at the White House wrapped up, a reporter asked the president for an update on a call held earlier in the day on the situation in Ukraine. Students in Los Angeles public schools will be required to wear "well-fitting, non-cloth masks with a nose-wire" and staff will be required to wear surgical-grade masks beginning Monday under the school district's latest round of pandemic protocols. The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) on Friday updated its coronavirus guidelines, which are posted on its website, to essentially ban cloth masks. "Masking will be required at all times, indoors and outdoors. It is required that all students wear well-fitting, non-cloth masks with a nose wire. All employees are required to wear surgical grade masks or higher," the updated guidance said.
