A flight from Miami to London Wednesday night turned around and went back to the point of departure because a passenger refused to follow the federal mask mandate on planes, canceling her flight and forcing her fellow travelers into hotels until they could re-book. The airline called Miami-Dade police and once the plane landed, officers escorted a woman off the plane at Miami International Airport Wednesday evening without incident. A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department said American Airlines staff dealt 'administratively' with the passenger, which involved her being placed on the airline's no-fly list

Enough of the masks. Take a look at all the passengers next time you're at an airport. We all look like fools. I won't be flying again until the masks are gone. How many times do you have to go the bathroom to get a breath of fresh air?

There no video so it doesn’t seem as though she was loud or rude. Article also says there a $500 penalty for not wearing a mask in flight. Why not just impose the fine and carry on? There’s something missing from this story.

That woman had better be expecting some lawsuits. She books the flight knowing what the rules are and then refuses to abide by them. I hate the flipping masks but if I had been on that flight they would have had to restrain me from wringing her neck!

I am flying for the first time since COVID and it will be a 5 hour flight. I will wear a mask.
Why? I do not want to drive from Atlanta to Los Angeles.

1. Boris Johnson yesterday ended mandatory face masks. 2. "Cloth masks are little more than facial decorations. There's no place for them in light of Omicron," CNN Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen said on air Monday. Wen is an emergency physician and visiting professor of health policy and management at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, on CNN Newsroom Tuesday.

For sure this turn around cost the airline big bucks. The airline like every other entity is eligible to file a civil suit to recover their damages. Well it also seems like an overreaction for the command pilot to turn around a large commercial aircraft with well over one hundred passengers aboard thus inconveniencing all those passengers to enforce what appears to be an administrative or a criminal misdemeanor violation that is punished by a monitory fine. The airline knew the non compliant female passenger’s identity and could put her on their no fly list without turning the aircraft around.
On the other hand the mask mandate is a federal regulation that the airline must comply with or be subject to government adversarial actions. The fact that face masks may be useless to stop the COVID virus is beside the point.

FTA: "The flight - a Boeing 777 carrying 129 passengers and 14 crew members..." and "She was put on American Airlines' internal no-fly list pending further investigation." 129 passengers might have turned a profit on an AA's old narrow body MD80s but 129 passengers doesn't even halfway fill the seats in a wide body 777, and the fuel bill from Miami to London is over the roof. I don't think the airline will be permanently banning anyone; the investigation will conclude that it was a an unfortunate misunderstanding.

Curious....Odd...Unusual.... that there is no description of the disruptive female other than her age.
I wonder if she is a member of a politically favored group.
Time will tell.

Don’t they have Air Marshals on board any more!?
So lame to turn around. More people need to revolt and rebell. If everyone in the flight joined her what would they do?

I saw a photo of Maxine Waters flying first class recently with no mask. She was not eating or drinking. Guess the rules only apply to the little people.

Yes, the masks are stupid and useless.
However, wearing them when strangers are close to each other might make some people feel better.
I travel by car. I wear the mask into the rest stop. I don't want a hassle. Not worth the aggravation. If other people are not wearing a mask, I can easily take mine off.

I admire this woman for simply saying what needs to be said. Masks provide NO protection. In this case, "following the rules" makes no sense because masks provide NO protection. Fear is the key here. These 'vaccines' don't provide protection either, and in fact studies are surfacing that show that they actually degraded people's immune systems against other diseases. The same power-hungry apparatchiks who pushed vaccines are pushing masking. Why listen to them a second longer?

I breathed in my own toxic waste for 10 months. Never again. Our city just finagled another mask mandate. This time I refuse. Haven’t worn a mask yet. Most businesses here no longer have the stomach for enforcement, and the police department flat out stated that they will not enforce it. Just a note to those who comply because they don’t want to be hassled: You are prolonging the situation…for all of us. I simply won’t fly anymore until the airlines regains their senses.

This brought to mind the classic about the mighty elephant being scared of the tiny mouse. That plane wasted all that fuel needlessly.

I wear a mask as required, but frequently yank it below my nose to get fresh air and unfog my glasses. I also yank it off my face as soon as I walk outside.

The only time I wear a mask is in the doctor's office or in the hospital it's required everyone abides by the rules on the door. Flying is not in my future if I can't drive in my car I won't go. I certainly wouldn't have been on a flight out of this country. That sure didn't seem like plenty of people for that big jet what a waste. They shouldn't have turned around for such pettiness that totaled three hours of flight time that's plenty of fuel.

1. The $500 fine is a penalty imposed by the federal government, not a fine imposed by the airline. It will only be imposed if she is charged with a crime and pleads guilty. Many prosecutors lately refuse to charge offenders for their crimes.
2. When the offending woman purchased her ticket, the airline required her to acknowledge that this was the federally-imposed airline rule, and she agreed to wear the mask. I don't like the mask either, but if she didn't want to wear it, she should not have purchased her ticket.
3. If the plane had proceeded on to London, they might have been liable to bring her back to the USA after her stay there, rather than leaving her stranded in England; this way, she will be forever banned from traveling on American Airlines.
4. Yes, the airline wasted considerable money on fuel and putting the passengers up in hotels. But they saved themselves the public relations hit, potential lawsuit, attorneys' fees and damages from any passenger(s) or heirs of passenger(s) who might claim they caught covid from the offender, were hospitalized or died, because the airline failed to follow federal rules. If an offender refuses to comply, perhaps they're drunk or mentally unstable and could create greater havoc during the balance of the 4,400-mile flight.
5. The woman is not courageous; she's obnoxious and inconsiderate of her fellow human beings, some of whom are brainwashed into abject paranoia about being near someone not wearing a mask.
