Two police officers have been shot and killed in the Harlem district of New York City.
Wilbert Mora, who joined the NYPD in 2018 and Jason Rivera, who signed up a little over a year ago, in November 2020, have been pronounced dead. The pair were responding to a domestic violence call at around 5:10pm involving a mother and a son on West 135th Street. The gunman also died. The officers' deaths are the first under Mayor Eric Adams, a former NYPD officer, who was elected in part to combat the city's surging crime.

Horrifying. Domestic disputes are often the worst calls. At least the mayor has a spiffy new jacket to wear to all these crime and tragedy scenes.

I hope he has some plan besides showing up at the hospital after the police officers have been killed. Was this a photo op?

Say what you will about the possibly opportunist mayor, as a former police captain, he is going to respect the police a bit more than his nasty predecessor ever did. Jury is still out on this new guy for me. But if he respects the police a bit more than Bill did, he will have been a far better mayor than Bill.

FTA: Lashawn McNeil, 47,—who was out on probation at the time on a 2003 felony narcotics charge in New York City, and who had four arrests in other states—died when a third officer opened fire as he tried to flee"
"The officers' deaths are the first under Adams, who was elected in part to combat the city's surging crime, and the first shooting deaths of an NYPD officer since July 2017. They are the fourth and fifth officers shot so far this year—by comparison, last year, a total of 10 police officers were shot in the entire state of New York."

Other reporting mentions a different source of the weapon, not that it makes much difference because the killer should probably have not been loose to begin with. A high-capacity magazine in a stolen gun? But that's illegal!
FTA: "Police said McNeil had previous arrests both in and outside of New York City. The weapon he used was a handgun that he stole from Baltimore in 2017; the weapon was outfitted with a high-capacity magazine."

Harlem is really a code word for "feral animals". No one is safe there including the cops.

This is not a good start for Eric Adams. If it keeps up with the high death rate and police killings, he may have to look for employment elsewhere. I never thought he was the right man for the job. Maybe he should look elsewhere for people to run the city department outside his family. He should eliminate the VAX police and put them in the subway and on the street for real protection.

Wasn't the latenst case one where reformers would say send a social worker instead of a police officer??

How long before the cops start turning their backs to Eric Deblowsio? This guy got elected on a law and order campaign, but so far he looks like another phony with a big mouth. In fact, he's pretty much indistinguishable from his predecessor.

This would not have happened if they had first sent in a social worker to talk to the killer first in order to defuse the situation. The worker would have explained to the killer that society was the cause of his problems and he was therefore not responsible for his actions. This is an example why police will empty their clip when confronted by a person aiming a gun at them. I know I would. Shoot first and fill out the report later.

Lashawn has the usual background. The police should have shot first and asked questions later. "Defund the Police" will eventually turn into what these black thugs have been accusing them of doing for years, profiling them as criminals until proven otherwise and, in the majority of cases, they would be correct.

Rereading Candide by Voltaire. Over 250 years ago, many blacks had the same reputation back then as they do today. Give them a few more centuries, things may turn around.

'Due to a police incident, avoid the area of West 135 Street between Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd and Malcolm X Blvd. in Manhattan,' the NYPD said.
That tells you all you need to know about the area.....
