President Joe Biden finally delivered his “voting rights” speech in Atlanta, telling a crowd:
“The next few days, when these bills come to a vote, will mark a turning point in this nation’s history. Will we choose democracy over autocracy, light over shadows, justice over injustice? I know where I stand. I will not yield. I will not flinch. I will defend your right to vote, our democracy against all enemies foreign and domestic. And the question is: Where will the institution of the United States Senate stand?”
These were little more than the mendacious ravings of a demagogue.

A new Rasmussen Reports poll in partnership with the Heartland Institute shows that Democrats are not becoming skeptical of the federal government’s response to COVID. Recently, Dr. Anthony Fauci said that just about everyone would eventually get omicron. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky told Americans the currently available vaccines cannot prevent omicron transmission or symptomatic illness from the virus. Still, the poll finds that most Democrat voters support vaccine mandates, and many want punitive measures against those who haven’t gotten the COVID-19 vaccine.
The partisan divide is painfully obvious in the results.

COVID-19 vaccines allow breakthrough infections. Their duration "appears to be limited."
On top of that, wealthy countries caused harm by bidding up vaccine prices to hoard the "limited supply" available last year.
These are not criticisms from a purported purveyor of COVID misinformation. They came from the biggest private funder of global health research.
Bill Gates, whom the National Institutes of Health called a "superhero" for his eponymous foundation's lavish health spending, frowned on the results of COVID vaccine research and distribution practices in a short Twitter chat Tuesday.
"We need vaccines that prevent re-infection and have many years of duration," he told chat host Devi Sridhar, chair of global public health at the

“Son, you’re grounded.”
Prince Andrew was told face-to-face by his mother, Queen Elizabeth, that he will no longer be known as His Royal Highness, The Post is told.
Looking stony-faced, the embattled Duke of York was driven a few miles from his house, Royal Lodge, to Windsor Castle on Thursday morning.
There, the Queen, 95, broke the news that she was stripping her 61-year-old son of all his remaining military titles and royal patronages in the wake of the sex-assault lawsuit brought against him by Virginia Roberts Giuffre.
Andrew has denied the charges against him.
During a private audience, the monarch told Andrew he will no longer be known as His Royal Highness

"In HBO Chernobyl series there is scene where man in charge of fallout turns out to be not scientist, but shoe salesman w/party connections. Given absurd personnel policy, my assumption is this level of absurdity becomes more common every day in US agencies." (Snip)
Most folks who were paying attention during the Obama administration realized he was racializing and weaponizing each and every one of our law enforcement institutions, among others. The damage done to law enforcement has been catastrophic.
How did he do it? By appointing people who were loyal to him and not because they were particularly smart or competent. Like the quote above

ST. PETERSBURG — Rays bullpen catcher Jean Ramirez died unexpectedly Monday at age 28, the team announced.
Baseball operations president Erik Neander said in a statement posted on the team’s Twitter account late Tuesday afternoon that it was an “unexpected and difficult loss.” The Rays provided no other details. Ramirez, a native of Puerto Rico, died in Fort Worth, Texas, where he attended high school and still lived.
Fort Worth police said they “worked a call” Monday afternoon but could release no further information, as the case was still open. The medical examiner’s office will release the cause of death when available, police said.
Ramirez played three years in the Rays’ minor-league system

I have HBO Max. I love it. Out of all the streaming services, HBO Max gives the best content for the money, in my opinion. Maybe it’s because I’m a documentary junkie, and the documentaries on HBO Max are plentiful. I recently binged Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults and could not believe the similarities between them and the true believers of the cult I’ve come to call the Branch Covidians.
I’m not talking about the people who are going along with the regulations because they’re trying to survive, nor the ones who got the vaccine to keep a job, nor even the ones who don a mask

The facts of this shameful case are generally well known: the National School Boards Association (NSBA) wrote to the FBI, asking it to investigate as “domestic terrorism”protests at school board meetings against the introduction of Critical Race Theory into public school curricula. That was bad enough, but now the story has gotten even worse. On Tuesday, Fox News revealed that “Education Secretary Miguel Cardona solicited the much-criticized letter from the National School Boards Association that compared protesting parents to domestic terrorists,” according to an email exchange it had reviewed.

The political push to transform our electrical grid into reliance on “renewable” wind and solar energy keeps running into the laws of physics. The laws of physics are going to win, but the economic carnage in the meantime will be terrible.
My colleague Isaac Orr documents, not for the first time, the futility of wind energy when the weather gets cold:
"It is a well-understood phenomenon that wind generation in the Midwest essentially disappears when the mercury dips below -22° F. Electricity generation from wind turbines drops under these circumstances because wind turbines are programmed to automatically shut off when the temperatures get this cold

This week marks two years since Iranian terror mastermind Major General Qasem Soleimani was torn apart by a Reaper drone missile in Baghdad, on the orders of Donald Trump. The Iranian regime has marked the anniversary with a flurry of antagonism throughout the region.
On Monday, a coalition base outside Iraq’s main airport was attacked by two drones armed with missiles with the words “Soleimani’s revenge” on them. Both were safely shot down. That same day, two Israeli newspaper websites, the Jerusalem Post and Maariv, were hacked and made to display a picture of a missile being launched from Soleimani’s ring at Israel’s nuclear reactor.

Six years after Obama signed off on the nuclear sellout deal with Iran, diplomats are once again meeting with representatives of the Islamic terror in Vienna's lavish Palais Saxe-Coburg.
1,500 miles away from the white columns of the former palace turned five-star hotel, American forces are under fire once again. On January 3rd, two suicide drones were aimed at the State Department’s Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center near the Baghdad International Airport.
Two more terror drones targeted American forces deployed to fight ISIS at the Al Asad air base. The base has been repeatedly hammered by Iran-backed rocket attacks over the past year, most notably when 14 rockets struck

Much has been written about American decline. Often one’s rivals look ten feet tall and it’s easy to forget that both Russia and China have problems their own of their own. In an effort to achieve a zero spread of Covid, Beijing is imprisoning whole cities. (Snip) Some of China’s woes are caused by the failure of Beijing’s own systems to meet their ambitious goals. First it mandated the installation of a contact tracing app as a requirement for physical movement, even in Hong Kong. Then the app collapsed. ‘The Chinese city of Xian suspended its top official in charge of big data after the system powering the
