Just like fifty or sixty years ago when Russia's nuclear missiles, tanks, and space program was leaps and bounds ahead of the U.S., China's military is now viewed as leaps and bounds ahead of us. The internal goings on are either hidden, or just not reported. It's why the Olympics is so important for China. It's another chance to show the world how advanced they are, but it's only skin deep. Four hundred million Chinese might live better than before, but a billion more live no differently than their grandparents.

You think you got troubles? The world turns for everyone. But the "troubles" are bumps in the road for those with a long term vision. The USA has none, reveling in being the "Leader of the Free World" that's laughing up its sleeve at the expensive folly. We are involved everywhere, and that means you get everywhere's problems. Let's see, there's Syria, Iraq, our southern border, Ukraine, Taiwan, now Kazakhstan...add the old chestnuts of North Korea, Iran and Israel. Time to read Washington's Farewell Address and take it seriously...

China is facing a population crisis. Yes. Birth rates have plummeted. Worse yet, with abortion a sacrament, boy births outnumber girls 6 to 5. Yes, China needs women! Further, the gov't there doesn't allow investment in foreign securities. Their market is so inflated, people turned to other securities. Gold. And property. Heard about those empty cities? Built and sold and owned.... but what are they worth. Some apartment buildings are so shoddy they've fallen right over. They have a 2008 looming... and of course, the answer will be government. Can't wait.

Retitled (as so many of Fernandez's essays seem to be) "Putin's Kazakhstan Problem.," which is a better title. Wretchard concludes thus:"Try as we might, we or Putin cannot banish the contingent from events. Some historians even believe the Cuban Missile Crisis was resolved through pure, blind luck. To be fair, it may also have been precipitated by a run of equally bad miscalculation. Things can go both ways. The only consolation for the players is that over the long run, the proportion of pluses to minuses will reflect their true abilities. Only with the incompetent is all luck bad luck." The dull fellow who was inaugurated on 20 January 2021 might show the world what really bad luck looks like. In competitive golf we have the expression "You make your own luck." Not mentioned in the article is the financial ties between the American pResident, his family, and some very high Kazakh officials. Blackmail potential is off the charts.

I have HBO Max. I love it. Out of all the streaming services, HBO Max gives the best content for the money, in my opinion. Maybe it’s because I’m a documentary junkie, and the documentaries on HBO Max are plentiful. I recently binged Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults and could not believe the similarities between them and the true believers of the cult I’ve come to call the Branch Covidians. I’m not talking about the people who are going along with the regulations because they’re trying to survive, nor the ones who got the vaccine to keep a job, nor even the ones who don a mask

The facts of this shameful case are generally well known: the National School Boards Association (NSBA) wrote to the FBI, asking it to investigate as “domestic terrorism”protests at school board meetings against the introduction of Critical Race Theory into public school curricula. That was bad enough, but now the story has gotten even worse. On Tuesday, Fox News revealed that “Education Secretary Miguel Cardona solicited the much-criticized letter from the National School Boards Association that compared protesting parents to domestic terrorists,” according to an email exchange it had reviewed.

The political push to transform our electrical grid into reliance on “renewable” wind and solar energy keeps running into the laws of physics. The laws of physics are going to win, but the economic carnage in the meantime will be terrible. My colleague Isaac Orr documents, not for the first time, the futility of wind energy when the weather gets cold: "It is a well-understood phenomenon that wind generation in the Midwest essentially disappears when the mercury dips below -22° F. Electricity generation from wind turbines drops under these circumstances because wind turbines are programmed to automatically shut off when the temperatures get this cold

This week marks two years since Iranian terror mastermind Major General Qasem Soleimani was torn apart by a Reaper drone missile in Baghdad, on the orders of Donald Trump. The Iranian regime has marked the anniversary with a flurry of antagonism throughout the region. On Monday, a coalition base outside Iraq’s main airport was attacked by two drones armed with missiles with the words “Soleimani’s revenge” on them. Both were safely shot down. That same day, two Israeli newspaper websites, the Jerusalem Post and Maariv, were hacked and made to display a picture of a missile being launched from Soleimani’s ring at Israel’s nuclear reactor.

Six years after Obama signed off on the nuclear sellout deal with Iran, diplomats are once again meeting with representatives of the Islamic terror in Vienna's lavish Palais Saxe-Coburg. 1,500 miles away from the white columns of the former palace turned five-star hotel, American forces are under fire once again. On January 3rd, two suicide drones were aimed at the State Department’s Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center near the Baghdad International Airport. Two more terror drones targeted American forces deployed to fight ISIS at the Al Asad air base. The base has been repeatedly hammered by Iran-backed rocket attacks over the past year, most notably when 14 rockets struck

Florida Republicans outnumber registered Democrats for the first time in the state’s history, as Blue State COVID refugees tick the Big R on their voter registrations. Twitter user TimDCpolitico took Florida’s voter rolls from March 31 of 2020 and compared them to the latest figures. The results, he says, are “jaw-dropping,” and I can’t think of a better way to describe them. Out of over 14 million registered voters, last year Democrats held the edge with 37.38% of registrations compared to the GOP’s 35.28%. The Zero Covid Problem 12 replies

One of the unresolved debates of the pandemic era is whether the zero-Covid public health strategy is the correct one. This strategy can be loosely defined as driving Covid-19 as close as possible to zero through strict control measures so that community transmissions no longer appear and, should that happen, be quickly re-suppressed. Initially, even Europe and the U.S. tried this (remember two weeks to flatten the curve?) but quickly gave up with the emergence of new variants, although through 2021 a number of small, or easily isolated, countries persisted in the attempt. As 2022 dawned, however, even these were giving up.

Most Americans today have a romanticized (and extraordinarily narrow) historical understanding of the conflict that we call the Civil War. In their imaginations, it goes something like this: With passions inflamed by a moral renaissance in the North regarding the institution of slavery in the South, the two sides decided to go to war over the issue. In the end, the evil South was righteously razed by the armies of the North, and thus, slavery was ended, and the former slaves made American citizens, as Abraham Lincoln intended.

The vaccine, called Corbevax, was developed by the Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. It has successfully passed human trials as safe and effective. The new treatment is based off protein-based technology that has been used in other vaccines for decades and it does not use MRNA. India has already authorized production of 100 million doses per month of the new vaccine. Meanwhile, Texas scientists say not-for-profit vaccines will help defeat COVID-19 quicker.
