Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam said Wednesday he was "sick and tired" of hearing criticism of "what went wrong" during the recent snowstorm that left hundreds of people stranded for hours on Interstate 95, according to The Richmond Times-Dispatch. During an interview on WRVA, a Richmond-area radio station, reporter Matt Demlein asked Northam about any updates in assessing how the huge transportation backlog transpired, especially as many were stuck in their vehicles with limited heat, minimal food options, and frigid outdoor temperatures. The Democratic governor — who is term-limited and will leave office on January 15 — forcefully rejected the line of questioning

One question Governor Coon Person. Where were you when the I-95 diaster occurred? Ironing your sheets? In Florida getting a dark tan? You weren't on the job.

I used to visit my sister when she lived near DC when it snowed. The roads were plowed and drivable.
This storm was nothing compared to some of the previous storms.
It looks like someone is in denial about his responsibilities.

He's an idiot but he does have a point.
"We knew that the storm was coming. We put warnings out. Why don't you start asking some of these individuals that were out on the highway for hours, one, did you know about the storm? Two, why did you feel it was so important to drive through such a snowstorm?"

I am from So. Bend (have not lived there in many years) and I am use to snow. Lots of lake effect snow. We didn't even talk about snow coming unless it was to be a good foot or more. And, yes. You do develop driving skills and hopefully your country is prepared. In places like VA where they get snow, but this was an unusual storm, they do need to think a bit before going out. I live in Indy and the people here go bonkers if you say 3 inches of snow is expected. If you have to go out stay off the interstate and drive through town if you can. If there is a problem you can find shelter more easily. If you have to use the interstate it is best to stay right where you are. It's a case of better be late than not at all. While snow bound areas spend a lot of money on snow maintenance other places do not sink that much cash into it. That is understandable. Don't know the approach their media took but it should have been telling people to stay put. It was going to be dangerous and unless it was an emergency don't go out. And after hearing all that, and you go out, and get into trouble, well duh. In a caustic way the gov was trying to make that point after the fact. But his being snarky was the wrong attitude to take. It must have been a horrible mess to be involved in and I am sorry so many were stalled on the roads. But think ahead and I know we have all laughed about putting blankets, water and granola bars and M & M's in our trunks. But you just never know. It appears their department of transportation needs a complete review of their emergency procedures. Something the new gov might want to jump on. The old gov had nothing to lose by being an unfeeling jerk. I assume he assumed that most of them voted R in the last election.

Seriously? It is NOT any government's fault that motorists ignored forecasts and got trapped by the weather. It was stupid to blame the governor elect but it wasn't Northam's responsibility either. I thought WE believed in personal responsibility.

There have been several articles that stated that the snowfall was predicted 24-48 hours in advance. Why was the DOT unprepared? While I don't blame Northam directly, his management style allowed this to happen. Was the DOT trying to throw him under the bus?

Sorry Spanky, until you leave that office for the last time, the disasters happening in your state are on your head. I would not be surprised if he thought that the media would blame Youngkin for this mess. Glad they dashed his hopes. Now where did I put my tiny violin...

This story is days old, hence coming from “business insider.” Coonman, his nickname at VMI, a college for stupid people, is too busy pardoning murderers and other bad people in our prisons as he moonwalks out the door. “Leave me alone and let me go back to my pediatric practice.” Can you imagine anyone bringing their children to this moron? (They mostly are in Norfolk, our dysfunctional central city.)

From WI where snow and snow removal is frequent. Snow warnings alert folks but most are not on the road for fun when a storm comes. There is the usual routine of life that many can not just ignore. Trucks are still out too. Sorry, Northam, government is supposed to keep the roads clear.

At least there's one good thing coming from last week's weather event on I-95. The next time the Twitterverse erupts with accusations against a Republican for something not his fault, it can be dismissed as use of the "Youngkin ploy".

this storm started hours before as rain so the road could not be sprayed with salt. It would have just washed off. A lot of these people did not HAVE to be out driving. That area of 95 is always a heavy traveled road and 99% are government bureaucrats from DC or the DC suburbs. I'm really not too interested in their bytchin anyway.

As much as I hate Northam, which is plenty, the biggest part of the problem in and around Fredericksburg, is the vast number of trees taken down in this storm. At our exit from 95, at least half of the trees on the hillside are down. People are still without power. Perhaps if Northam had not destroyed the State Police, it could have been handled in a more orderly fashion. Maybe Northam could have called in all the felons he let out of prison and in their big-hearted way, they could have removed the trees from the roadways, before they went back to terrorizing the citizenry.

Now he knows how it feels to be blamed for something that happened on his watch. Remember how Pres. Bush was blamed for Katrina. I was on 95 just before Christmas. The traffic was bumper to bumper. A two hour drive took 5 hours. Tell the truck drivers to slow down. One of the hold ups this time was the wreck caused by semi-trucks. Once the traffic stopped and it kept snowing, there was no way out. He could have sent the National Guard to help. Even Democrat Sen. Kaine got caught in it. Is the Governor calling him dumb too? Stop trying to pass the blame. You are the one who went to NC for a vacation by private plane during the pandemic and. Talk about dumb!!!

All these whiners complaining about a bit of snow, need to spend a winter in North Dakota...I did. I saw snow drifted 2 stories high, roads lined with 'snow fence', -45 degree temps and 45 knot winds, wheel bearings frozen stuck, everybody had a head bolt heater...pull up your big girl panties and deal with it...

I'm in Michigan. We had a forecast of freezing rain and ice accumulation overnight. I checked the weather before going to church this A.M. and it was above freezing with some drizzle. My point is: The weather people made it sound a lot worse than it was. They have done that with snow forecasts 2-3 times already this season. It's called crying wolf. I don't blame people for taking a forecast of a lot of snow lightly.
BTW I was on an interstate going to my church. There's one about 1/2 hour away that NEVER shut down and NEVER

(hit the wrong button) NEVER demanded masks. Well worth the ride. But it meant I was on the road when forecasted conditions would have marked it as hazardous... there was a weather advisory and all that.
Wolf.

Is there some reason why they couldn't have closed 95 and started tuning people around and exiting them off the nearest ramp? It seems like no one bothered to do anything to help--other than blame the drivers. (I read all the freeway signs encouraged drivers to mask up--maybe they should have warned them of the road conditions instead...)
