Ted Cruz admits his comment calling the
January 6 riot a 'violent terrorist attack'
was 'dumb and sloppy' during groveling
interview with Tucker Carlson: Host says
he doesn't believe him because the senator
'doesn't use a single word by accident'

Texas Senator Ted Cruz gave a mea culpa to Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson Thursday after Carlson criticized Cruz Wednesday for comments he made last week branding the Capitol riot 'a violent terrorist attack.' Cruz, introduced by Carlson as 'smarter than me,' called his own comments 'dumb and sloppy' and said he texted Carlson shortly after and asked to go on the show.(Snip)'Tucker, as a result of my sloppy phrasing it's caused a lot of people to misunderstand what I meant,' Cruz responded. 'What I was referring to are the limited number of people who engaged in violent attacks against police officers.'

Comments:

Throw in the towel, John Kerry; there's a new king of nuance in town.

Ted Cruz has one of the sharpest minds in politics today. He never "misspeaks". Never. For whatever reason, he chose to make that incredibly evil statement, and trying to backtrack and hem and haw is not going to cut it now!!! What he said was evil!!! Pure and simple. It's not the first time either. I have supported him, voted for him, and donated to his campaigns. Never again. My days of voting for candidates solely because they are Republicans and therefore the "lesser of two evils" are over. I refuse to ever vote for evil again. Texas can do substantially better, and has to!!!!! No, I will clearly never vote for a Demon-Rat again. They truly are pure evil top to bottom. But

Ted Cruz has lost my vote. He barely beat Beto last time. We need someone else to run in the primary against Cruz. Not a single person has been charged with attacking a police officer from Jan 6. All of them are in jail rotting without any charges filed, or evidence released. I am done with Cruz.

Not sure why he said what he said, but he would have been better to just saw it was the wrong thing to say instead of attempting to excuse himself by not accepting full responsibility. There was a term of vernacular used in the movie "The Right Stuff" about the original seven Mercury Astronauts that goes something like this as I remember it... "Oh please Lord, don't let me screw the pooch" Senator Ted just "screwed the pooch"..... he is now stuck in a pergatory where the faithful feel violated and the RINOs want him to continue to eat crap sandwiches....

Don’t believe you now, Ted. Tell you what though: Go on a serious crusade and get the American Patriots in the Pelosi-Schumer-Bowser Gulag released and the charges dropped against them, and get the Feral Bureau of Instigation / Antifa operatives that did all the violence and destruction on Jan 6 arrested and charged, and it will go a long ways toward restoring your reputation. Anything short of that is just more Cruz Kabuki.

Better if he had said he was under the influence because anyone with a brain knows Cruz has made a living wordsmithing. I don’t believe he will recover from this without some serious mea culpa. I like #18 suggestion. Do that and get back to us then we will reconsider. As it stands now, I am done with Ted Cruz and anyone else who gives aid and comfort to the greatest enemy, the democrat party, this country has encountered in its entire history. Tucker Carlson roasted Ted Cruz like a Thanksgiving turkey. As dislikable as Senator Cruz is, we need each and every Republican senator right now, to keep Kamala´s Harris´s tie-breaking votes to a minimum. In all fairness, the summer of 2020 did look pretty damned terroristic to me, with governors who wouldn´t call out the National Guard; police in cities from sea to shining sea told to stand down; Soros-backed DA´s who refused to prosecute; nightly attacks on federal buildings; nightly killings committed with impunity; and an unruly (and manipulated) crowd on January 6. The year 2020 DID look very inexplicable, unstable and frightening at the time.

Tucker completely took him apart. He's right about Cruz and the Republicans - they are worthless. Cruz never says anything he doesn't mean...as Tucker said he is probably the most articulate member of the Senate and a gifted orator. He didn't make a mistake or misspoke - he decided to pander to the left because he never got over 2016. I have never liked Cruz. He has always been all talk just like Trey Gowdy. He knows what red meat to throw to conservatives, but never really accomplishes anything at all. It's time for him to go, and to find someone else that is actually a MAGA patriot. Same for Mike Lee, and a whole list of blowhard phonies in the Senate.

Ted Cruz, for all the good things he has done recently fighting the good fight in the Senate and speaking truth to power, got caught up in the moment and emotion led him to say what he did. When I watched that Senate Hearing live, I thought he was going to follow up his statement with "Yes, terrorism, because of the presence of Antifa, BLM, and possibly Federal Law Enforcement Agents promoting illegal behavior." And that would have been both correct and a smackdown of the whole January 6 False Flag event. Ted disappointed me on this one.

Cruz betrayed me and disappointed me on another level. The betrayal part is easy and obvious and unforgiveable. The disappointment part comes from seeing someone I saw as one of the most brilliant minds in politics a phenomenal debater often debating issues from a side that agrees with me. Accept for a moment that he's been a phony all this time and simply pandering to an underserved market segment, an actor if you will. This is a blunder of epic proportion in playing the role of supporting constitutional values even if you are faking it. I was also similarly disappointed with his New York values comment. Yea I get where he was going but that was simply tone deaf.

Yes, he owned up to a poor choice of words and said it was a mistake. But he did not express regret for saying it or apologize for giving the wrong impression. Just once, I wish a politician who is caught in a lie, a mistake or a moral failure would simply say " I did it, I am sorry. Please forgive me." Those words cannot be misunderstood.

I watched the interview, Ted Cruz, danced and evaded, but couldn't justify his remarks. He essentially claimed, "When I said black I really meant white." I do not know why Cruz said what he said, but it added fuel to the Democrat''s slander that all of the demonstrators were terrorists trying to overthrow the government. The demonstrators were laud, but peaceful until a couple of agitators stirred up a riot. The fact that Nancy and Chuck didn't authorize the deployment of the National Guard standing by until after the riot started to dissipate, makes me wonder if Nancy and Chuck wanted it to happen.

He took a shot at regaining some of his credibility with Carlson, but we still remember his glee during the 2016 campaign when Trump supporters were met with violence. One of many reasons I don't like or trust this loser. No wonder he grew the beard. Unshaven, he looks like a pre-op tranny. All of you who like to jump on the bandwagon when one of these GOP betrayers says something you like need to wake up and smell the coffee. Even Trump is in this category. Last night he went through this song and dance with Tucker and it just didn’t fly. So Cruz got louder and louder and more obnoxious. I have not been a fan, he would have been a disastrous president (and remember his wife was an activist for a Western Hemisphere without borders. None. Zip. Wide open. As for the Supreme Court, I can’t go there either.

DO NOT CANCEL TED CRUZ. He made a very stupid and dangerous statement, for which he will pay mightily. With calls to abandon him we are doing exactly what we bit-h about with the communist left. We are cancelling him for a statement. Never mind we are at war with the communists in our government. Never mind he is one of the most brilliant conservatives since Antonin Scalia. Never mind we need every single STRONG conservative voice in the pathetic Senate. He made a stupid statement so off with his head. Calls for his ouster are as dangerous as it was when Eisenhower took Patton off the battle field because Patton didn't speak nicely to his soldiers. Give me a break. Toughen up ladies and gentlemen. Because we are in the battle of our lives; a battle for not only the soul of our Republic, but a battle for the entire damn Republic itself.

We will always have the pearl-clutchers who say things like if not Cruz, then Beto. Patently absurd unless Texas has lost its collective mind, which is another story. Then we see relativism between this terrible statement that goes back to January 7, 2021 (and is still apparently on his website) and President Trump’s “mean" tweets. That is when some of us show frightening ignorance. Carlson did not do any harm last night. Cruz had already taken care of that all by himself (or maybe his globalist wife helped? She makes Jill look like the tooth fairy.) We don’t have to run scared because one of “ours”, or so we thought, has shown himself to be not so much. This is a swell time to find out - rather than wait until he is in a higher office where he can really do damage. He showed where he was when he couldn’t put together a credible response to Tucker Carlson. He created this himself, presumably stating his heart and mind. Now some of us are blaming Tucker for calling him on it. That C stands for Compromise, not Conservative.

The man spends 98% of his time articulately lambasting the idiot leftists and screws up once and the conservative lynch mob's ready to dump him. There are a lot of Republican politicians working to keep Trump out. I don't trust any of them. We would have never known that Cruz said this if Tucker, and a few others, had not reported on it -- and Cruz was counting on that. Never really trusted Cruiz. There are a lot of crafty and intelligent people in the world -- that does not make them good people. A lot of these front runners bear watching. They have had a lot of years to say what they think we want to hear. It does not mean they will follow through once elected into the highest office. We know that how Trump will govern once in office. It's Trump or nothing for me.

At the 2016 Republican Convention Trump gave Cruz a prime time slot; once it was clear Cruz was not going to endorse him, Trump walked into the arena and got an ovation. Cruz is a weasel and should never become President. The fact that we do not have any Republican Senator fighting for the political prisoners in the D.C. judicial Gulag is unforgivable. Trump supporters are imprisoned in solitary without trial or bail. Then Cruz decides to give Democrats an assist before their J6 pantomime. We need Donald Trump back; F. Joe Biden stole the election.

I would like to be able to give Senator Cruz the benefit of the doubt. If he was referring to BLM & Antifa in regard to law enforcement as he claims, he was indeed spot on. Ted Cruz has been to this point as convincing a conservative as anyone in the DC environment and I cannot see giving up on him as yet. When I first arrived in Texas in 2010 from the Northeast, he was one of the first Republicans & conservatives I voted for and proudly so. In the highly politicized environment of DC, I have no doubt, he has been as rattled as anyone can be with his family threatened by activists and other lunatics. Who, in fact, wouldn't be, under the circumstances? He can do some serious redemption to get back into our good graces and I profoundly believe that. Now is not the time to give up on him. There are far too many RINOs out there not to give him another chance. Context, as Democrats so often say, is everything.

Didn’t then candidate Trump label Ted as Lying Ted Cruz? https://youtu.be/5D-tKJzkBdc Then he embraced him. https://youtu.be/LGxbhwufrK0 I understand that campaigns lead to testy confrontations and words. However, I think President Trump understood something that many of us miss. I think that many conservatives want so badly for someone or some people to emerge as real leaders. Cruz gives that appearance. Real leaders need to compromise where compromise is good. However, accusing peaceful protesters of being terrorists is over the line. In fact, the word and label “terrorist” is another overused description just as “racist” is overused. It has lost its meaning and the value it has to identify reality. Ted is above all things a politician. As Tucker noted, he did not screw up when he used terrorist to describe these people. As for the Capitol Police being heroes? Nope, not at all. Heroic defense does not include waving people through the doors.

Tucker basically called Senator Cruz a liar right there on TV. I doubt we will see Ted on this program again - that is, unless he is in trouble again and calls to be on! Many conservative Texans are on to Cruz. He is brilliant but unless his character demands him be unshakeably stalwart in standing up for what he says, he will keep disappointing us when these huge issues arise. I pray for him. I will not blame the swamp or the Houston water. Senator Cruz is like anybody else in that he makes choices which side to be on. Ted chooses Mitch McConnell’s side.
