Microsoft has included a new function in the latest version of its Word software that acts as a checker for inclusivity and offers PC alternatives to phrases which could upset others. Traditionally, Microsoft Word has offered tools to its 250million users such as checking software for spelling, punctuation and grammar. But now, the tech giant has added an additional feature which reads through a user's work and examines whether the language used may offend an individual. The Sun reports it does this by highlighting phrases focusing on gender, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity of 'socioeconomic status'. Everything I write will have a purple underline. I will just ignore it. This is infringing on my unalienable right to free speech.

Why is it such a terrible thing to offend someone? Many people fully disserve to be offended...especially professional victims.

Use open source software, like LibreOffice, instead of MS Office.

If the public won't cater to the snowflakes, then the snowflakes at MS will definitely force the issue. As long as we still have our edit buttons, and can put back anything they might try to autocorrect, I appreciate the warning from the enemies at MS.

Purple underlining is a lot better than red. I can live with purple. If purple and red are both underlined, it won't mean you have membership in the Red Hat Club. Microsoft is so rich they won't care what I think. BTW, FWIW, LibreOffice is a great open source product. FJB ad infinitum.

On my iPhone, when I begin to type the word, Gestapo, suggested words include gestalt and gestation with no auto-complete even after I type the p. The left must dislike the use of Gestapo to describe the FBI and other federal agents who act as enforcers for the democrats.

One of the virtues is meekness.
Meekness is the ability to ignore offending statement or to ignore it when people do wrong to you.

But they go out of their way to offend us and earn social points for doing it. Question: do they collect data on Comrades who make the thought violation and need to be auto-reminded? Do they collect data on those of us who refuse to be re-educated and don't "Take the SUGGESTION!"?

I don't use Microsoft's grammar checker, either. I actually know how to write English, when I choose.
You CAN disable the defaults. You just have to do it EVERY TIME they update their systems. I plan to go to Linux and alternatives with my next computer, as soon as I can decide which.
I still miss the original Word Perfect.

I'm 60+. I no longer care about the opinions of people not in my orbit. I'm too old to be bothered learning "new, non-offensive" English. And I have too few years ahead of me to worry about the sensitivities of snowflakes.
So.....I'll stick with the language from the 60's and 70's.
I've become my grandparents.

First there was spell check which I don't mind.
Now there is grammar check which I find annoying. It tries to correct writing style.
Next will be PC check which is the equivalent of the thought police. No thanks.
This will not be limited to Microsoft Word.

I've used WordPerfect for years .... can't stand MS Word! I love WP so much I founded a successful business around it. Still, clients have one by one gone over to the "dark side".

I'm through paying for M$ Office. A year ago, I bought a bundle good for one PC, lifetime license. My computer had to be rebuilt a few weeks ago. I tried to download the product again, and I couldn't as Micro$oft no longer supports that version. WTG(++)! I found the download on my computer and installed it. I tried to enter the license, and it's gone off their web site!
I looked for Office Bundles on Amazon. They mostly seemed to either be subscriptions, or single downloads. I'm currently using my installed Office, and just skip the registration step. I'll probably get the Apache OpenOffice suite if I upgrade.
Not a fan of Micro$oft becoming Big Brother, but look who started, and grew it to where it is now.

A few years ago - before Black Lives Matter, CNN outlawed the use of "Black" to describe black people, preferring "African American" - It was a dilemma for them when 3 , second generation French black kids were killed in a riot and called "African American", prompting James Taranto of the WSJ to say "Now they are killing Americans!"
