New Jersey public schools could be required to infuse the history of Asian American and Pacific Islanders into their curriculum beginning with the 2022-23 school year. A bill that would make it mandatory for inclusion in K-12 curriculum statewide cleared both houses in the State Legislature this month and awaits action by Gov. Phil Murphy. New Jersey would become the second state to require it (Illinois is the first), and similar bills are being considered in eight other states.(Snip)Advocates fast-tracked the measure in response to a spike in hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders since the beginning of the pandemic.

Will the recent history of blacks attacking Asians also now be included in the Black History curriculum?

I demand that Norwegian American history be taught in every school. It's only fair.

New Jersey is gonna focus on the importance to world history of of the islands near New Caledonia...
but not of Caledonia itself, or for that matter the original Isle of Jersey.
THOSE folks need to be cancelled.

Hate crimes against Pacific Islanders (Samoans, Tongans, Hawaiians, Fijians, Maoris)??? Who in their right mind would ever harass these physically intimidating people? I call BS!

It's New Jersey. The whole state is insane, you can't even pump your own gas there.

What's wrong with teaching Polish history. We've suffered more than any other minority population. Oh wait, it's because were white and need to be ostricized. Got it.

How about Irish-American history. Talk about discrimination. Read about the attitudes toward Irish immigrants, especially in Boston and it will curl your hair. Happily, the Irish didn't curl up and cry racist, they got busy and succeeded.

Why? We have a dumbass member of our legislature who is showing that he is virtuous! Instead of going through this nonsense, they should be teaching that it’s wrong to make fun of people because they are different from you. I recommend that the Frank Sinatra short film “The House I Live In” made in 1945 be shown in all schools. That would be better than these BS courses unnecessary and a lot cheaper. It’s on YouTube for those that didn’t see it then.

Ok, the measure is in response to a spike in hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders since the beginning of the pandemic. But, what does this have to do with the real problem. You see everybody is afraid to talk about it, but the real problem that needs to be addressed is the culture of violence in the black community. There are hundreds of videos out there showing unprovoked violent attacks on Asians by blacks where in some cases the person was killed. Oh, but you can't talk about it. Fact is, blacks are responsible for over 70% of the violent crimes in the whole country. Get it yet..

That will be valuable education for those who want to escape the tax-hell insanity of New Jersey and move to an island in the Pacific. A few of them may be smart enough to get out. Hint to the genius governor, it's not an Asian problem, it's a black problem but I don't think teaching African history will solve it either. It's mostly those we transferred from the third world to modern civilization and I don't think they are trainable given the murder records being set in every major city.

I am in favor of an hour per semester of the history of slavery at high school grade level. But it would be a complete history from ancient times to the present.
I wouldn't mind emphasis on the African slave trade to the "new world" if the complete truth were told such as over 90% of them were sent to South America and the Carribean where, as opposed to North America, they were worked to death which required constant replenishment. Also discuss the Barbary Pirates and the Arab/Muslim trade to the middle East which continues today.
I am of East European Slavic descent. My ancestors were subservient (servus) to Greeks, Romans, Huns, Russians, Germans, Austrians, Hungarians ... Nazis and Soviets. My great-grandparents found freedom here and rejoiced in it.

The islanders.....had no significant effect on world history. Asia, well Japan caused a huge mess starting about 100 years ago, until we finally settled their hash with a couple of nukes. China cruising down the same path, and sadly, probably some sort of a nuclear ending there, too.

This, atop weaving gay pride into all lessons (another NJ law). Anything but American history, because that's racist. They'll teach that White supremacy causes hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, but will stop short of saying what color fists and feet are used in the beatings.
