Democratic Socialist Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York has jumped onto a tweet sent by former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton that went viral earlier this week. In the tweet, Bratton—who worked under outgoing Mayor Bill de Blasio—showed several homeless people sleeping on a subway train. 'You know why NY's 'recovery' isn't happening? This photo today on the E Train at 6:45am at 42nd & 8th says it all,' he wrote. 'Why should working people & tourists be subjected to this? How's it fair to those who need services? Imagine the cops' frustration with no support to deal with it!' Ocasio-Cortez joined many others on the left in slamming

Comments:

Why doesn't AOC, the world's foremost economist, investigate what became of the billion dollars Bill De Blasio's spent on a mental healthcare initiative that's shown no results at all, as demonstrated in part by the number of crazy homeless people riding the subways?

It's my understanding that all cities have plenty of homeless SHELTERS but that nightly many beds go unused because people who could take advantage of them are unwilling or unable to follow the rules for the 8 to 10 consecutive hours necessary for everyone there to get a good night's sleep. For example, there's a "lights out" time which lasts for the duration of the night after which you can't just noisily come in or get up and leave at any time you please, you can't be intoxicated upon arrival, you can't smoke, drink, or party while you're there, you can't solicit or have sex, etc. Many homeless are homeless because they can't go 8 to 10 hours without indulging in the behaviors that cause them to be homeless in the first place, so they stay out on the street to exercise their "freedom". Am I correct in my information here as to the cause of many homeless out in public and not in a shelter?
