If you aren’t white, you may not be able to go way outside.
At least, that appears to be the belief of a North Carolina State University professor.
KangJae “Jerry” Lee — of the school’s College of Natural Resources — recognizes the racism keeping you from enjoying the great outdoors.
Cultural differences, he asserts, can’t explain why there aren’t more black people fishing, hunting, and hiking.
Also an insufficient excuse: income disparity.
The instructor laments America’s adventure/nature gap, but he’s bulls-eyed the culprit: systemic racism.
Wichita’s KAKE recently jawed it up with Jerry on the lack of outdoor equity.

Probably because they are sitting on the porch smoking dope and drinking cheap wine while their illigitimate children go hungry.

I used to bed a big hunter and for years, I was a bass PREDATOR! There were quite a few blacks who used to do the same.
Some of the best hunters I knew were black.

What a bunch of horse-hockey. I was taught how to fish by a black man (who I still miss dearly 70 years later).

likely because a majority of blacks live in the historically dim socialist run inner cities where there appears to be plenty of hunting without a license.

I guess that museums are racist too - how many black people do you see visiting them? How about libraries?

Go to Forest Park in St.Louis on a nice weekend and hope to get out intact.
See if you can find a spot to fish on the rocks below the Carlyle Lake dam, East St. Louisans seem to enjoy the bottom feeders.

Seems most perfessers have a hatred for anything requiring waking up and loving our great country.
Time to 'Delete' ALL of them from their jobs and let them rot in Prison, Cancelling isn't permanent enough!

I suppose that hunting being a racist sport is why the gangbangers in Chicago kill so many people in their driveby's, because they are bad shots.

If you lived in So Cal over the last 73 years you would know that brown people dominate pier fishing.
I can totally understand non-swimmers not wanting to go out in a boat to fish when they can be successful off a pier.
But where does this brown man come from, spouting off about things he has no knowledge of?

Just implement hunting & fishing and museum visiting mandates on black people. New legislation will be needed. New contracts with donor and family owned companies will be needed to implement and enforce the mandate. Salaries for those who miss work to fulfill their hunting fishing museum public service, salaries for those handling the paperwork and of course for all the implementers.
It’s utopia!!!
Or maybe this professor just avoids places where black people hunt and fish.

I am in a part of NYC where anyone who can cast a line can fish in the East River. On a nice day, and even on not-nice-days, those fishermen (and they are all men) are generally Hispanic and black. They fish for sport (eating what comes out of the river is a bad idea), but there they are. It's the same on any bank facing the East River--Astoria/LIC, Roosevelt Island, Harlem.

Rural blacks hunt I don't believe inner city blacks do except hunt each other. We camp all the time I can say I have never seen blacks camping or hiking, while many Hispanics do. This is a stupid statement to call some activities racist or painting a white face on them. KangJa Lee sounds dumb and stupid certainly a know nothing expert.

Hmm. I guess holding a 9mm Glock sideways and dumping a magazine isn't likely to kill a deer....but then how many deer are they likely to see from their back porch on the south side of Chicago, or some other urban hell hole.
If you took them out to the country ......they'd be really unhappy and want to get back to the stinkhole that they are familiar with. Judging by the number of blacks I have seen in National Parks, or on hiking trails, or along fishing streams, or out hunting....they just are not interested in the Great Outdoors, by and large.
Not my fault. They could do it if they wanted. They don't want to.

Outdoor Magazine has already documented, at length, the racist framework of our public lands. The principal culprit, according to OM, is the reservation system for camping spots. According to OM, People of Color have poor planning skills and need to be allowed to make last-minute camping reservations. I am not making this up.

The most abused word in the English language is diversity. It seems as though up is down, day is night, black is right and diversity means conformity.

The Tidal Basin in Dc where there are cherry trees planted along the banks are a spectacular display of nature once a year during blossom time. have you ever looked at the race of the people crowding the banks? It doesn't cost a cent. Dc's population is 50% black. But there are less of them there than a NASCAR rally. All the galleries and Smithsonian exhibits are free. Same story. This argument like CRT is dishonest BS.

Lots of blacks are taking up sports that used to be white only. Like the NHL. There are several minority players of various ethnicities I have seen this year, all doing very well playing pro hockey. If blacks aren't interested in something sports related, it isn't racist. It is because they are NOT interested.

Dear stupid professor: The world does not revolve around you and your “people”. We all were placed here. We all have the right to pursue whatever we want to. You are marooning yourself on a very strange lonely planet. That is what racialist like you do.
I have never known one black person who gave a darn about skiing because they “don’t like to be cold”. Our California beaches didn’t use to lure many blacks because they didn’t know how to swim. Never mind that our local public pool was used by at least 75% blacks. And on and on and on.
