Top of heap: 94 NYC Sanitation workers
net $100K-plus in overtime

There’s gold in them thar trash bins. Nearly 100 city Sanitation Department garbage collectors and supervisors hauled in more than $100,000 in overtime last year—pushing some of their yearly salaries to almost $300,000, payroll records show.(Snip)“Chronically high absenteeism and inefficient union work rules have long contributed to excessive overtime pay levels at the Sanitation Department," Warren told The Post. “The pandemic surely aggravated the situation." The agency’s top OT earners were notably all supervisors with 20 years or more of service—meaning they are retirement-eligible and can use the overtime to fatten their pension. All of the top-10 earners were supervisors with base pay at $108,846.

Comments:

Why study to be a doctor or a lawyer when you could make a killing being a garbageman in the Rotten Apple and retire like a king? No doubt there's "federal" funding pouring into that crooked mess, seeing how they claim it's covid-related.

I had to wait 10 minutes near NY Presbyterian while the garbage collectors picked up trash and they did not slack for a second. FWIW, I have no problem paying them what they are owed for honest hard work. It's diversity officers, mask enforcement, and others who need to be taken off the payrolls.

Dead Tim Russert used to brag about his father, a Buffalo, NY garbage collector who held down two full time jobs. Here is the dirty little secret about that. Buffalo garbage collectors were assigned duties by street, and Buffalo had some streets which had been stripped of buildings by urban renewal. That meant those garbage collectors who were politically connected to the democrat machine that ran Buffalo, were assigned streets with no garbage to pick up. All they had to do was to sign in each morning, and then leave for their second job.

Back-breaking disgusting job. As long as they actually are working those overtimes hours, it doesn't bother me. But if there's hanky-panky clocking those overtime hours, that's a different story.

2nd post apologies, but, #11, the pension computation is a formula which considers the high three years, for example, of pay, and years of service. And it is not unusual, in the public sector, to see employees retire with a pension payment exceeding their final year's base salary.

I used to have this question in a class I taught - 'it isn't right that garbage men [the old-fashioned term] get paid more than first grade teachers!' My response - 'why don't the prospective teachers go to work as garbage collectors?' Response: 'Who wants to do that kind of work?' My response: 'There ya go! The free market in action!'

Meanwhile, the justices rejected a far-fetched argument that would have limited the role of state courts in election disputes and turned away an aggressive attempt to challenge Biden administration immigration policy – both areas in which lawyers on the right might have overreached in their arguments.

Moments after bowing at least three times, Yellen then stumbled over He's name, calling him 'Vice Premier Hu.'
