In November, Secretary of State Antony Blinken removed Nigeria from the State Department’s list of countries hostile to religious freedom. The move flabbergasted religious freedom advocates, including members of the U.S. government’s own Commission on International Religious Freedom. That commission had urged Blinken in April to keep Nigeria on the list, pointing to “violence by militant Islamists and other non-state armed actors, as well as discrimination, arbitrary detentions, and capital blasphemy sentences by state authorities” in the country. In 2020, the Trump administration designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) on religious freedom.

My father is one of three boys in his family, the middle son. His older brother is my Uncle Bruce. He and my father are approximately three years apart in age. They had formed a fast bond by the time their third brother came along, and the stories of Bruce and my dad’s childhood antics are legendary in the family. Fox 5 News Atlanta reported that Khalid Kamau, the socialist mayor of South Fulton, Georgia, was arrested Saturday morning after entering unlawfully entering a house and refused to accept responsibility. He was charged with criminal trespass and burglary in the first degree.
