The US Navy has fired a nuclear submarine's Commanding Officer, Executive Officer and Chief of the Boat for 'loss of confidence' after their vessel collided with an 'uncharted seamount' in the South China Sea. The $3.1 billion USS Connecticut's CO Cmdr Cameron Aljilani, XO Lt Cmdr Patrick Cashin and COB Cory Rodgers were relieved of their positions on Wednesday. A seamount is a mountain which rises from the ocean floor. A statement from the Navy said that the October 2 crash, which injured 11 crew members, could have been prevented with 'sound judgement, prudent decision-making and adherence to required procedures in navigation planning'.(Snip)Beijing today accused Washington

Do they even TEACH navigation in the Navy anymore? Or was that course replaced by Woketardery 101?

Probably too busy putting up "equitable" transgender bathroom signs.
BTW, Afghanistan horrors and the $70-90 Billion in military equipment left behind.

There is something wrong with our Navy. They have ran 3-4 ships into each other, or into the ground. Then their sailor saboteurs have burnt the ship up. At the same time, we have our ground forces abandoning $85B of equipment in Afghanistan. Our admirals and generals release articles every day about how they are stunned by advances made by the Chinese and Russians. Yesterday, it was the British beating them in training exercises. Only a few weeks away from thousands of our military forced out of the service for not taking the shot. If anything happens in the world, we are totally broke. There is no way to print any more money without completely destroying the currency. Biden is demented on top of being an idiot, and has zero following. Nobody is following Biden anywhere. The Australians have declared war on their citizens. The Europeans have closed down their energy production, so have none. Bottom line is the Chinese, Russians, Cubans, Venezuelans, and anywhere else can do whatever they like.

political correctness know no bounds and this Captain and his crew are the whipping boys for the demcommies and communists who are embedded in our defense department.
borax hosingyou oblama completely politicized the essential departments of the government during his 8 years in office and thank you God for giving us at least 4 years of our President Donald J. Trump because he wasn't able to stop the commie takeover of our government but he might have slowed it down a couple of years.
Down With Demcommies!!!

Submarine commanding officers are arguably the most underpaid individuals in the world. "Here. Take this $3B in facilities - including a nuclear reactor - and 150 employees and drive it around beneath the ocean surface for months at a time. Remain hidden at all times and under no circumstance can you call your boss for guidance or advice. One slip-up and you're fired."

I"ve never understood our military's policy of one strike and you are out. Mistakes are made, so learn from them without throwing away people with years of experience. If I were these two men, I would ask who got fired over the Afghnistan debacle.

A $3.1 billion sub didn't know that an uncharted seamount was dead ahead. Riiight. Interesting that this incident was made public. Just because the sub was in the South China Sea. Where is the sub now.

How about some action against China for building an UNCHARTED sea mountain? Think this is exactly what they had in mind?

Run your boat into an uncharted mountain you get relieved. Screw up the evacuation of Afghanistan , get 13 servicemembers killed and kill dozens of civilians and then go on to a successful post retirement defense contractor job . That’s the UD military today.

Maybe it's time to start putting in windows on the subs like the submarine in the TV show "Seaview" from the sixties. I'll bet if they had windows in the front they would have seen that mountain. Plus, they could look out for all those monster sea creatures.

Uncharted undersea mountain? Don't they train the sub commanders in how to pay attention to the possibility of those popping out of nowhere? I thought that was what radar was for, to prevent these kinds of collisions.
When you are more concerned with diversity training than proper care and function of our equipment like this Sub, things like this are bound to happen.
Where these Obama promotions perchance? He only hires the worst of bad drivers for our Navy.

#21, hard rule in USN. Run a ship aground, your next command will be a base. Nobody ever ran a base aground....since it already is ground.
BUT, if the board agrees that he seamount that they hit was uncharted....how is that a nav error? Hitting a charted or VISIBLE obstacle is inexcusable. Hitting uncharted items seems beyond the nav or helm capability to avoid.
And please, don't say "why didn't they use sonar". Passive sonar just listens, and mountains make no noise. Active sonar gives of sound pulses, reflected back, and should have detected the obtacle. BUT the normal procedure is to have active sonar OFF at all times to avoid giving your position away to any naval assets within a large area who are listening with their passive sonar and not giving away their positions.
There has to be more to this than we know, or it's just more USN stupidity. About half a century ago, a family member was CO of a USN ship involved in a collision. The USN skipper of the other ship was cashiered for his incompetent behavior after the relatively minor collision at sea. My relative was cleared and continued on to several higher levels of command, no stain on his career. THAT USN was hard but fair, but permitted no incompetents running their ships. This USN, I can't tell.
Again, I ask, how do you avoid uncharted underwater obstacles when sonar is not to be used? ESP?

I can see the CO and XO, the two highest ranking officers aboard a sub, being cashiered but the Chief of the Boat is a senior enlisted person with no command authority. Curious.

I wondered about that myself, #31. I have never heard of a COB getting cashiered before for a skipper putting his boat aground.

It's my understanding that the sonar should show that there is a mountain there. I'm trying to figure out how this could happen unless someone isn't paying attention.
