At least eight people have died and hundreds more injured after thousands of revellers surged towards the stage at rapper Travis Scott's sold-out Astroworld Festival in Texas.
An estimated 50,000 people showed up for the two-day event which was cancelled last year due to Covid. But Friday night's show was called off after chaos broke out just after 9pm local time, and the music festival's second day has now been scrapped.Thousands of revellers surged towards the stage while Scott was performing at NRG Park in Houston, leading to a crush. The rapper's girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, was also watching his set.

The death of eight people is real only because a Kardashian watched it happen.

I remember the Who concert in the 70s where this happened. Cincinnati I think.

The guy is an egotistical jerk. This is his MO. He was arrested in Arkansas for inciting a riot when invited the audience to rush the stage. Fortunately it was a smaller venue. Hopefully the charges and penalties will be stiff. Prison time.

Oh, so now they’re called “youngsters” instead of “youth” and “teens”.
Sadly, this is no surprise. The rap genre promotes this kind of behavior from both the rapper and his/her fans. It seems that nothing good ever happens at a rap concert.

The tv show WKRP in Cincinnati did one of their shows on The Who concert deaths in 1979. I think that disaster was general seating. They threw the doors open and the race was on. I could be wrong, though. Its a 40 year old memory

"Seventeen people were taken to hospitals, with 11 of those in cardiac arrest, out of a crowd of 50,000. The two-day event was sold out after being cancelled last year due to Covid"
Cardiac arrests the result of a crush in kids. Well i live and learn.

I feel sorry for the parents of Kineesha, Shasandra and Concretsha but they should have known better in a venue like that.

If he continued the show knowing there was a problem Scott is guilty of manslaughter.

Having been caught in a crush - that time just ahead of a crowd leaving the Rose Bowl Game via a back way that led through a narrow gate in a chain link fence - I can remember the panicky feeling. People keep pushing even when there is no movement ahead of them. Insane.
What are little kids doing at these messes? As for Kylie Jenner, the DM must mention them every day. More than once a day if possible.

The photos show plenty (a seeming majority) of white faces in the crowd. And I don't remember The Who as either rappers or appealing to black audiences, either. There was a similar incident at a University of Wisconsin football game a few years back. This is not about "race".

So the DM would not have covered this tragedy if a Kardashian had not been there? She had to have been as traumatized as the rest of the crowd and her boyfriend were. I hope if this is as a result of Scott's own behavior that he finally gets prosecuted for this. Causing mayhem and people dying should never be a part of any concert.

I worked concert security in Houston for several years, including at the Astrodome. The 1st night of the Stones two night appearances someone was stabbed to death on the Mezz level, where Cops had 100% "Control", were standing around couldn't/didn't stop it, or even catch the perp., the next night Stones said if we see ANY cops we stop the show, T-Shirt security took complete control. There was a swarm of ambulances always waiting out back, onsite medical team, crash room. At "The Pit" the fenced security area in front of the stage, as people got crushed or distressed we'd yank them over the wall..drop them on speaker dollies and send them under the stage to waiting EMT's. Part of the Key to safe shows was "Zero tolerance/strict enforcement" while the lights were still up,where everyone could see people getting tossed for hopping walls, trying to jump to better seating sections, get on the floor. I also worked shows few other people wanted to work..it was the early days of Rap, NWA, Tupac,Public Enemy, we ended up recruiting some of the Black Motorcycle gangs to help out and "Keep the Peace". Today? there is NO "keeping the peace" no rules, no respect..."Feral". 100% "Democratic" the majority/largest crowd makes their own rules, does what they please.

The "surge" reminded me of pictures in Cabul Afghan as a C4 was rumbling down the runway attempting takeoff while people chased it to hitch a ride. Or maybe it reminded me of the chaos of Cabul when people were running through the streets. Not far away, right?
