The third special session of the Texas Legislature ended Tuesday night. A bill promoted by former President Trump was not added to the special session’s agenda by Governor Abbott and the Texas House of Representatives did not bring it up for a vote. The Texas Senate voted on it and passed the bill that allows party officials to request election audits of their county’s 2020 election results and set up a process for future audits. Is Trump’s influence in Texas, where he won in 2020 by six points, showing signs of waning?
Maybe. Texans don’t like to be told how to manage their business by outsiders,

Nope, not even a little bit. President Trump is still beloved here in Texas, and will easily win in the next election!!!

the descriptor in the entry kind of makes it look like our President is losing influence in the state but reading the entry shows that is not the case.
it was passed in the senate as put forth and "The Texas Senate voted on it and passed the bill that allows party officials to request election audits of their county’s 2020 election results and set up a process for future audits."
as far as the non-action taken in their House, that doesn't make any difference. it sounds like the way Arizona is pursuing their 2020 election lawsuit with their Senate taking over control of the matter.
certainly sounds like Hot Air alright.

Trump still has Texas. But to Texans, he is still a Yankee. There will always be mixed feelings.

Friend of mine insists Trump is losing voters and won't win next election. She reads MSM. I told her not only will he have all the voters he had last year, but he will have millions more blacks and Hispanics. So now we have to wait and see.

Abbot has his hands full with the border, election issues, and getting electricity for the winter (I hope he is working on that, but I hear nothing, which is not re-assuring). As for the elections, the legislature has ordered audits for Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth. That should do it for 2020. The Democrats are using their control of the large cities to stuff the ballot boxes. They always have done it, but it now has become hundreds of thousands of ballots. The "elections" go on after election day, until the Democrats are ahead, then the election is declared over. Having elections supervised and votes counted in the city centers is not, and will not ever be, a fair process. Election processes, controls, and counts have to be in the hands of ethical and professional individuals, not Democrat apparachiks, and each election should have audit processes applied to verify election laws were followed.

I'm not impressed with Abbott. He should have the National Guard at the border. He is part of the problem.

Everybody will see the light in 2024 if Trump is not the headliner on the ticket. As much as many people would like it, he is not going away and he is the only one who can beat the democrat cheating machine. The GOP might as well fold up their tents and go away now.

Actually, #9, not sure where you're getting your news from, but we DO have Texas National Guard troops at the border. They were just fired on, again, a few days ago. I live here, and our governor is doing just fine, considering all the crap he's having to clean up from the Biden administration.

Oh, and no, Trump's popularity is NOT waning in TX. If anything, it's increasing. Not only do i see plenty of Trump signs and flags in my area, my best friend and i took a road trip last weekend, and there are Trump signs and flags everywhere in between. This is being pushed by the media as a build up to the next election, so that when they cheat to flip certain counties, as they did in the last election, it looks more believable.

Not sure about Texas, but he made a BIG mistake when he promoted the vaccine at his rally, and he got booed by Trump voters.
Stay in your lane Bro.

Hot Air is predictably anti-Trump and barely conservative. If anyone’s influence is waning it’s theirs.

Trump enjoys popular support but has very little to no support from the actual parties and all the career politicians. Can see the parties doing something underhanded in such a manner that it leaves no fingerprints to ensure Trump never wins another election. Don't think they will do anything to prevent Trump from running. That would be too blatant. They want Trump's supporters. They just don't want Trump.

Maybe all the "elected" official now how the game is played and want no part of someone looking over their shoulder at how the votes are counted. The more you ask questions about the process, the more the politicians look the other way.
Quit supporting the incumbents. Vote for the opposition in ever primary.

Thats because Gov Abbott's SHILL and GateKeeper is DADE PHELAN!
Just got an email from a watchgroup here in Texas that says that Lt. Gov Dan Patrick (in Texas this position often carries far more weight than the Governor) reports this:
"The carefully coiffed relationship between Gov. Greg Abbott and his lieutenant governor, Dan Patrick, appeared a bit disheveled yesterday. Jeramy Kitchen has the details.
It began with Lt. Gov. Patrick expressing his frustration that the Senate has passed numerous conservative priorities, only for them to be blocked by the Texas House – which is helmed by Speaker Dade Phelan. (In the Capitol, it is well understood that Phelan operates almost exclusively at the direction of Gov. Abbott.)
Patrick then called for a fourth special session to be set that would address a major problem created by the Legislature (both chambers) and signed into law by Gov. Abbott: the severe weakening of the state’s voter fraud laws. House Republicans ushered in a Democrat-favored amendment to downgrade ballot-related crimes from felonies to misdemeanors. Everyone in the Legislature tried to look the other way, as evidenced by the Senate passing those weakened provisions, but when a watchdog group exposed it they all had to pretend to care. Speaker Phelan refused to take up the “fix” proposed by the Senate.
Patrick also wants a fourth special session to address President Donald Trump’s call for a full audit of the 2020 election. (After taking Trump’s endorsement this summer – an endorsement Trump made at Patrick’s insistence, reportedly – Abbott has mostly ignored the former president.) The Office of the Secretary of State (despite being vacant) issued a statement on Abbott’s behalf trying to claim a previously scheduled audit would satisfy the MAGA movement. It didn’t.
After Patrick made his pitch, an Abbott spokesperson responded: “Texans tasked the Legislature with delivering key priorities for the state in the most recent special session, including property tax relief, redistricting, and the nearly $16 billion American Rescue Plan Act funding, and we went above and beyond to deliver on these priorities as well as solve other critical issues for Texas. Because of the Texas House and Senate’s efforts to get these priorities across the finish line, there is no need for another special session at this time.”

Hot Air is full of hot air. Texas MAGA supporters are as supportive of Trump as we have ever been. Our dismay at GOP weakness has nothing to do with Trump. We do have a real schism within the party - MAGA voters vs. Bush globalist voters. Bushies do run our state party apparatus so the upcoming primary will be very important to see which Texas Republicans choose to be. We the people will decide what our future will look like.
