The third special session of the Texas Legislature ended Tuesday night. A bill promoted by former President Trump was not added to the special session’s agenda by Governor Abbott and the Texas House of Representatives did not bring it up for a vote. The Texas Senate voted on it and passed the bill that allows party officials to request election audits of their county’s 2020 election results and set up a process for future audits. Is Trump’s influence in Texas, where he won in 2020 by six points, showing signs of waning? Maybe. Texans don’t like to be told how to manage their business by outsiders,

Somehow, someone made the decision to let Joe Biden out and to go to a CNN town hall.
I’m not sure who thought this was a good idea. But even within the friendly confines of CNN, it was a complete train wreck — even by Biden standards.
Naturally, most of the questions from folks in the audience were Democrats or softball questions. But there were some highlights and it was disastrous.
Let’s start with the creepiness and the incoherence.

Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun on a set in New Mexico on Thursday, accidentally killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.
The incident occurred on the set of “Rust,” an independent feature that was filming at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular production location south of Santa Fe.
Hutchins, 42, was transported by helicopter to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where she died. Souza, 48, was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office.

We’ve reached the part of the program where some airline CEOs are finding it is better to use honey than vinegar to encourage their employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19. American Airlines is following the lead of Southwest Airlines and softening its language as deadlines loom and business disruptions are on the horizon. American CEO Doug Parker says that for those employees who do not get vaccinated or claim a medical or religious exemption, the airline will “continue to work with” them.

Negotiations continued today over the reconciliation bill. While its original price tag was somewhere around $3.5 trillion, that’s now clearly not going to happen, thanks to opposition from Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. Things are moving closer and closer to Manchin’s $1.5 trillion red-line, with even Joe Biden now admitting the bill will be nowhere near what the progressive wing wanted.
Still, the delusion is strong with Bernie Sanders, and he was taught a valuable lesson during a combative meeting today. Namely, that when you have no leverage, you have no say.

After years of silence, we finally started to get news regarding John Durham’s probe into the Trump-Russia investigation. As RedState reported, Michael Sussmann, one of the shadowy lawyers at the center of the false Alfa Bank story targeting the Donald Trump campaign, was indicted.
Then something happened last week that raised eyebrows. The FBI raided the residence of Oleg Deripaska. While the left tried to spin it as another move against Paul Manafort, others suspected it had something to do with the Durham investigation.
That theory was bolstered today after it was revealed that the scope of Durham’s investigation is reaching much farther than originally thought.
Two new polls should increase Democrats’ 2022 worries. Republicans are motivated, as demonstrated by the Virginia governor’s race. Rather than an easy win for Democrat Terry McAuliffe, it looks like it will be a slug-out with Republican challenger Glenn Youngkin to the bitter end. If Youngkin wins or even comes close, it has enormous implications for Democrats going into 2022.

An internal study published by Twitter on its algorithms indicated that the platform actually amplifies right-of-center voices over left-leaning ones. The reality, however, is more complicated.
Rumman Chowdhury, the head of Twitter's machine learning, ethics, transparency and accountability (META) team, told Protocol that the study only showed results based on bias in amplification–not what caused it. The content could be amplified for any reason.
In short, the study was unable to determine whether Twitter’s home feed algorithms are biased towards conservative content. Interestingly, Twitter did not specify which outlets or politicians are considered “right-wing” by the platform.

The country's largest school board association collaborated with the Biden White House before sending a controversial letter calling on the FBI to investigate parents as potential domestic terrorists, according to previously unreported emails.
The emails, obtained by Parents Defending Education through public records requests and reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon, reveal that the National School Board Association's president and CEO sent the letter to Biden on Sept. 29 without approval from the organization's board. First things first. National Review Editor Rich Lowry is not a “die-hard” Trump fan. We’ll offer several examples later in the article — but let’s first get to the business at hand. As Lowry sees it, it’s a fool’s game to overestimate Trump’s dominance of the Republican Party this far in advance of the 2024 election.
