Last week we reported on how Virginia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe made what some consider to be a catastrophic blunder in his campaign to become the state’s governor for the second (non-consecutive) time during the debate he had Tuesday with Republican nominee Glenn Youngkin. To quickly recap, the two were battling on the issue of whether or not parents should be notified when public school lesson plans will include sexually explicit content when a visibly agitated McAuliffe told Youngkin that, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.” Youngkin smartly capitalized on the moment with a blistering ad the following day that juxtaposed McAuliffe’s comments

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) on Wednesday floated a short-term extension of the debt limit in order to avoid a looming default.
“Whether through miscalculation or a deliberate effort to bully their own members into wrecking the Senate, top Democrats have risked adding a default crisis to the inflation crisis, border crisis, and Afghanistan crisis they have already created,” McConnell said in a statement. I keep coming back to the fact that there’s no apparent strategic logic behind the GOP blocking a debt-ceiling hike. They’re not holding out in hopes that Democrats will make some concession in exchange for their votes. Republicans aren’t demanding anything, McConnell has said repeatedly.

A poll from Quinnipiac University released Tuesday showed that a generic Republican on the ballot is favored to take back the House of Representatives in the midterm elections next year.
Forty-seven percent of the registered voters said they would rather see the Republican Party win control of the House, while only 44 percent of the registered voters said they would want the Democrats. There were also nine percent who did not give an opinion.
However, in September, the results were almost the opposite; 43 percent of registered voters said the Republican Party, while 47 percent said the Democrat party. There were also 11 percent who did not give an opinion.
