McConnell: Republicans won't consent to
lower the threshold to 51 votes to raise
the debt ceiling

I keep coming back to the fact that there’s no apparent strategic logic behind the GOP blocking a debt-ceiling hike. They’re not holding out in hopes that Democrats will make some concession in exchange for their votes. Republicans aren’t demanding anything, McConnell has said repeatedly. They’re not pretending that it’d be no big deal if the U.S. defaulted on its debt either. It’d be cataclysmic, McConnell acknowledges. The debt ceiling simply must be raised, he says. They’re not refusing to raise the ceiling because doing so would block Democrats from passing their reconciliation mega-bill. The debt ceiling applies to spending that’s already been incurred,

The logic of just messing with the democrats is just fine with me. As far as I am concerned, we should fight everything the SOBs want to do. They do to conservatives all the time. If they can choose to be perpetual obstructionists, turn about is fair play.

Under no circumstances should the debt ceiling be raised. I support lowering it by 50% over the next 5 years. The citizens of this country are getting nothing for all this spending. We are just adding money to the Democrat coffers.

All this aside... I would be in favor of totally removing the spending limit for ONE year, Making ALL spending for ONE year totally deficit. Bank every dime of Tax/Fee/Royalty inflow...coupled with a Constitutional amendment that EVERY year that follows spending can ONLY come from money "earned" the prior year and already in the Bank. ANY spending above that must be raised first, through voluntary contributions, War Bonds style...Bake sale style. Included in any/all budgets MUST be payments to reduce the overall deficit, always smaller, never again larger.

The logic is to stop being the go along to get along enablers that the Repukes have become famous for being, you moron author. Let the Democraps do this entire thing on their own hook. They can, without a single GOP vote or concession. They can simply use reconciliation, and own it all. Let the 'adults' be in charge.

We have seen this dance before. The Republicans act like conservatives at election time and then join the democrats to screw us shortly thereafter. The debt ceiling always ends up getting raised due to threats of government shutdown, slowdown, recession, depression, etc. It's all a big game and we always lose. McConnell will cave and Kentucky will never get rid of him until he croaks.

The strategy is to have Dems set the precedent for raising debt ceiling through reconciliation process, so that GOP can do likewise in the future.

#10, all the cataclysm talk assumes that the debt is repaid and that it is repaid with dollars that are worth something close to their value when "borrowed". I seriously doubt that this debt will ever be repaid. And, if any of it is repaid, it will be with dramatically devalued dollars. Say, 1000 of those future dollars to buy a loaf of bread. So, pay off a $1,000,000 in debt with the purchasing power of $1,000. For anyone holding this debt long term....that's a bad thing. Lend out $1 million in purchasing power, and be "repaid", $1,000 in purchasing power.....or less, if the Zimbabwe and Wiemar republic examples hold true. Heading for a currency collapse, slowly at first then REALLY fast "when the time comes". The question is "When will the time come?" Frankly, I have no idea how long this "slowly" part lasts. I was skeptical that we could get this far, but who in 1965 could have imagined that a normal pickup truck would cost $50,000 or more when a nice three BR house then cost $22,000, and a brand new Chevy sedan was $2,500-$3,000. The dollar is worth about 8-10% of what it was in those days, due to inflation. It will get worse before it gets better.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) on Wednesday floated a short-term extension of the debt limit in order to avoid a looming default. “Whether through miscalculation or a deliberate effort to bully their own members into wrecking the Senate, top Democrats have risked adding a default crisis to the inflation crisis, border crisis, and Afghanistan crisis they have already created,” McConnell said in a statement. Republicans “have already made it clear we would assist in expediting the 304 reconciliation process for stand-alone debt limit legislation,” McConnell continued. “We will also allow Democrats to use normal procedures to pass an emergency debt limit extension at a fixed dollar

In the wake of the botched Afghanistan withdrawal, persistent inflation, poor job performance data, and a prolonged pandemic, Americans have higher confidence in the Republican Party to promote international security and domestic prosperity than the Democratic Party. After nearly a year of Democratic-dominated federal governance, the competence rating for the GOP has soared in these two policy areas, a boost driven mainly by independents, according to a recent Gallup poll conducted September 1-17. The independent voting bloc has unsurprisingly steered the shift in favorability, given that each respective party believes it is superiorly equipped to maintain our economic prowess and protect the country from dangers abroad. Democrats suffered a 12 percent

A poll from Quinnipiac University released Tuesday showed that a generic Republican on the ballot is favored to take back the House of Representatives in the midterm elections next year. Forty-seven percent of the registered voters said they would rather see the Republican Party win control of the House, while only 44 percent of the registered voters said they would want the Democrats. There were also nine percent who did not give an opinion. However, in September, the results were almost the opposite; 43 percent of registered voters said the Republican Party, while 47 percent said the Democrat party. There were also 11 percent who did not give an opinion.

ust last month, numbers showed that Democrats were losing any kind of foothold they had over Florida as its registration numbers continued to shrink by leaps and bounds. It was one of the few remaining glimmers of hope in the state of DeSantis, and now they’re watching helplessly as it shrinks to nothing. The once purple battleground state of Florida is becoming a very deep red as Democrats lead in registration by only 24,000 voters. But the news is even worse. It seems other battleground states are seeing more red creep in than blue as registration numbers tank around the country. According to The Hill, swing states are noticing a trend

Anyone who still doubts that “moderate” Merrick Garland’s Justice Department is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the far left should check out the news that Garland has threatened to investigate and prosecute parents who vigorously protest against school boards and teachers intent on indoctrinating school children in the racist, anti-American teachings of Critical Race Theory. Garland did so through this memorandum. Garland claims that free-speech principles must yield when they represent “efforts to intimidate individuals based on their views.” Andy McCarthy notes an implicit exception if the individuals happen to be Sen. Sinema or Sen. Manchin. The implicit exception is broader.

A noteworthy leftover from yesterday. To give you a sense of how eager Democrats are to expand access to abortion, a few months ago House Dems voted unanimously in favor of a Medicaid bill that would cover the cost of the procedure for the first time in 45 years. The party has been radicalized on this issue and they’re willing to use some of their power to prove it. Unfortunately for them, the potential 50th vote in the Senate for the reconciliation deal on which Biden’s entire domestic agenda depends happens to be pro-life Joe Manchin. Because it does feel to me that these breakthroughs are happening, they’re happening regularly, and we haven’t really seen the government pay that much attention to them or warn about them too much.”
