New York—Northwell Health parted ways with 1,400 employees after they refused to comply with New York State’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for health care workers, a spokesperson said Monday.
The workforce for the largest health care network in New York City was 100% vaccinated, as of Monday. “This allows us to continue to provide exceptional care at all of our facilities, without interruption and remain open and fully operational,” the spokesperson said in a statement to PIX11.(Snip)Health care workers statewide had until Sept. 27 to get at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine or resign from their position without the ability to collect unemployment benefits.

Washington–All civilians who work for the Defense Department and the military services must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by Nov. 22, under new guidelines released Monday. A memo signed by Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks on Friday said the new mandate is in line with the presidential directive issued last month requiring federal agencies to implement vaccine requirements. “Vaccinating (department) civilian employees against COVID-19 will save lives and allow for the defense of our Nation,” said Hicks. “Thank you for your focus on this critical mission.”(Snip)The memo says those who had COVID-19 infections are “not considered fully vaccinated” for the purposes of the mandate.

Fewer than 500 children have died of COVID-19 since figures were first recorded May 2020, the CDC said, a figure exponentially outnumbered by children killed in drownings, gun-violence incidents, and other fatal injuries. A total of 498 children had been killed by COVID up to the week ending September 23, which are the most recent CDC figures available. Most children in the US die as a result of various accidents, including car crashes, drowning, and from being shot, the CDC says. A total of 3,343 children 19 and under lost their lives in traffic accidents in 2019, while there is an estimate of almost 4,000 children dying of fatal

An all-women led guard change on Friday marked a historic first for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Tomb at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia has been guarded continuously by members of the military for 84 years. The ceremonial changing of the guard takes place “every hour on the hour” between Oct. 1 and March 31 and “every half hour” between April 1 and Sept. 30, according to the Arlington National Cemetery website. But on Oct. 1, for the first time in the Tomb’s history, there was a shift change comprising only women, according to the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard).

What a difference a year makes on the border. In August 2020, the Trump administration managed something stunning. Border Patrol agents caught more than 47,000 illegal immigrants and immediately released just 10 of them into the interior. This August, under President Biden, the Border Patrol made more than 195,000 arrests and released 43,941 people—an increase of more than 430,000%.(Snip)
Things were running normally at the start of the fiscal year in October 2020 but went south quickly in the new year, just as the Biden administration took office. The Washington Times compared two months under President Trump—one pre-pandemic and the other in the middle of things

Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday it is exceedingly rare for a major religion to oppose vaccines but recognized it will be hard to referee situations in which workers say their faith makes it impossible for them to get the COVID-19 shots. “We looked at this years ago when people were claiming religious exemptions to avoid getting measles vaccines,” Dr. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “There are precious few religions that actually say you cannot do that.”(Snip)Dr. Fauci said sometimes people conflate a philosophical objection they have with a formal objection from a major religion.

A Dodge Charger muscle car was filmed spinning donuts around a cop car outside Downtown Philadelphia's famous city hall Saturday night.
The shameless act of hooliganism was snapped by an onlooker from the window of a nearby tall building just before midnight, with the car screeching around the Ford police cruiser multiple times as passengers sat on the vehicle's open windows.(Snip)Another onlooker was filmed clambering onto the cop car's bonnet moments later.
Despite the dangerous behavior, Philly PD did not make any arrests. Shortly before they arrived, the same group were filmed spinning donuts on the wide intersection outside Philadelphia City Hall as their cronies blocked traffic

Oh, Lord. A group of students at St. John’s University in New York is suing the Catholic school over its vaccine mandate, claiming the requirement violates their right to their religious beliefs.
The 17 plaintiffs say in their suit that they oppose abortion — and therefore do not want to take any of the three federally approved COVID-19 vaccines because the shots were tested using “aborted fetal tissue or human embryonic stem-cell derivation.”(Snip)St. John’s says in court papers that it won’t consider an exemption for the plaintiffs because there are questions about “the genuineness of their purported religious beliefs.”

Johnson & Johnson's one-shot COVID vaccine has been linked to another blood-clotting condition by EU regulators which they warn could be life-threatening. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said the new, possibly life-threatening clotting condition known as venous thromboembolism (VTE) will be included on the J&J product label was separate a previously-linked side effect known as thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS). VTE typically begins by a clot forming in a vein of a leg, arm or groin, which then travels to the lungs and blocks the blood supply there.(Snip)The EU watchdog said most clots had occurred in the brain and abdomen, as was the case

A black woman has been charged with posing as a member of the Ku Klux Klan and posting notes through neighbors' doors threatening to kill their children. Terresha Lucas, 30, has been charged with eight counts of making terroristic threats, according to the Douglasville, Georgia Police Department. Investigators allege that Lucas wrote letters describing herself as a ‘six-feet-tall white male with a long, red beard who did not live in the neighborhood.’ In March, residents of the Brookmont subdivision of Manning Drive in Douglasville, some 23 miles west of Atlanta, began receiving threatening, racist letters in the mail.
