Tuskegee, Ala.—Several employees with Tuskegee University are no longer with the school after a multiyear fraud scheme was uncovered during an internal investigation. According to a letter from Tuskegee University President Charlotte P. Morris, the internal investigation began after the university’s trustees learned of financial irregularities in grant payments and certain fund accounts. An investigation by a special review committee and law enforcement began in January 2020. Morris said the investigation found that several employees had conducted a multiyear scheme to defraud Tuskegee of about $500,000 by diverting grants and university-owned funds.(Snip) The university did not identify the former employees.

HBCUs weather many iniquities, including staff not clever enough to disguise their fraud. Not to worry; the US taxpayer stands ready to keep them all supported.

As a result, the employees are no longer employed due to their involvement or failure to prevent the scheme. Of those employees, three have been arrested and charged with theft by state law enforcement. The university did not identify the former employees. Why not tell us their names if they are arrested?

Naturally it is left unsaid that Tuskegee University is a historically predominantly Black University. While it is a highly ranked university, this would certainly be a black eye on the school's reputation. Any fraudulent use of government grants/funding could result in discontinuation of grants and eligibility for future grants and funding. I trust that they Board will take swift action to correct this issue so that the reputation of the university and future eligibility is not damaged. I also hope that the government treats Tuskegee University the exact same as they would treat any other university whose staff has embezzled $500,000 in grant funds.

The Democratic embrace of vaccine mandates is running into resistance from some prominent Black athletes and activists, an unforeseen political side effect with implications for the party’s grip on a crucial voting bloc ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. A bevy of NBA stars has spoken out against the COVID-19 vaccination requirements. Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green defended vaccine-hesitant teammate Andrew Wiggins by arguing that mandating the shot “goes against everything that America stands for.” “I think you have to honor people’s feelings and their own personal beliefs, and I think that’s been lost when it comes to vaccinated and unvaccinated,” Mr. Green said Friday
